Chuck Norris for president … of Texas

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/03/11/art.norris0311.gi.jpg caption="If the State of Texas ever left the Union, Chuck Norris is interested in being president of the newly independent country."] (CNN) – Actor Chuck Norris has his eyes on the presidency, but not the White House. Norris wrote that he would be interested in becoming the president of Texas, if the state were ever to secede from the Union.

“I may run for president of Texas,” Norris wrote Monday in a column posted at WorldNetDaily. “That need may be a reality sooner than we think. If not me, someone someday may again be running for president of the Lone Star state, if the state of the union continues to turn into the enemy of the state.”

The actor claimed “thousands of cell groups will be united around the country in solidarity over the concerns for our nation” and said that if states decide to secede from the union, that Texas would lead the way.

“Anyone who has been around Texas for any length of time knows exactly what we'd do if the going got rough in America,” Norris wrote.

“Let there be no doubt about that.” Norris was a strong supporter of Mike Huckabee’s presidential bid, and he helped to draw attention to the former Arkansas governor’s campaign.

Mike Huckabee can forget about a successful run at the nomination for President now. Coupler his picture from the last campaign with Chuck Norris's comments today and say sayonara Mike. Maybe we'll even say sayonara to Chuck when he is taken off for mental evaluation.

Wow most of you read so much more into this than what I saw in the article.

Did any of you click on the link and READ THE ARTICLE not just this blurb talking about it.

    IT WAS A JOKE, A QUIP, A TONGUE-N-CHEEK COMMENT.

I am not afraid of this actors statement but I am continuing to wonder about the collective sanity of the American people. (I think hatred of Pres Bush have collectively lost their minds and ability to think clearly and without undue emotion)

This guy has had too many kicks to the head. How irresponsible to talk about treasonous acts! There was a reason we burned the South once... they were traitors. Our military uniforms are not gray today; they're blue. It's sad to think he (and others like him) are my neighbors in Texas. He has no mental capacity to understand what he proposes, and apparently thinks he's the characters he plays on the small screen.

I seem to recall they shoot traitors in texas..... Or at least they used to. For someone who has always trumpeted about patriotism, Chukie seems to have forgotten that patriots dig in and try to make things better when the going gets tough; cowards run. Apparently he is beginning to show his true colors.

    Hey Chuck,

Life ain't a movie. You don't get to the the Sam Houston of today. Wake up and grow up. You are bordering on treason. Another Civil War? Another paranoid, gun nut, survivalist. I own guns but don't need to have a 1,000 rounds "just in case". I am not hoarding canned goods for the "when the time comes".

This should not be taken lightly. Talk like this is inciting if not traitorous. What is this guy thinking and more importantly, who is listening? He should be arrested for threats against the nation. I mean come on. Let's see what Lou Dobbs has to say about this? Probably not much as he seems to enjoy knocking everything in the US these days as well. Lou and Chuck should go and you know what themselves.

Actually 26 out of 50 states have introduced legislation to reaffirm the 10th amendment, saying that the states are more powerfull than the federal gov't, So Norris doesnt seem to be alone in his thinking.

Doesn't anyone believe in Democracy anymore?

Like it or not (and in some cases, I do not) the person who won, won.

Boy, it's articles like this that make me cringe to be living in Texas. We don't all feel like Chuck Norris does. I would say few that I know feel like he does. Chuck must be speaking for the red neck population of this state. By all means, go ahead and take them away...but leave Dallas alone!!

Let Texas leave along with any other southern state which wants to join them. Their Senators and congressmen have been holding the nation back for years. They are obstructionists on all fronts from the enviroment to personal freedoms, One thing, no getting back in.

Go for it Mr. Norris at least you can produce a birth certificate proving you are an American.... At least Texas was smart enough to put in contract that it could sucede...LOL I think I read a lot of jealously from the people of the states that flag cannot fly at the same level as the American flag.......

I have been living in California for 6 years now and I constantly hear from liberals how California is the 5th largest economy and how it should leave the union. I don't see anyone on here complain about that talk.

Texas in case you do not know your history was a independent country before joining the Union. It has in its charter the ability to leave that union anytime it sees fit.

Guess what. Every other state has that right as well. In fact the constitution encourages us to remake our government if at anytime it has become a complete failure and ceases to represent us.
