DNC rolls out 'Party of No' clock

The DNC is calling Republicans the 'Party of No.'

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Democrats are not letting up in what has been a constant stream criticism in recent weeks of Republicans as obstructionist at a time of national economic crisis.

The Democratic National Committee rolled out a new Web site Friday that features the party’s “Party of No” clock. The clock spotlights the amount of time that has passed since the release of President Obama’s 2010 budget blueprint – all time the DNC argues that Republicans have spent offering only criticism of rather than alternatives to the White House’s budgetary plan.

“Instead of petty politics and empty obstructionism, Republicans in Congress should either support the President’s budget or present their own plan to create jobs, fix our schools, reform our health care system, and make America energy independent,” DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse said in the statement.

In the nearly eight weeks since Obama’s inauguration, as the new administration and congressional Democrats have pushed through a $787 billion stimulus package and a $410 spending bill to fund the federal government’s operations, Republican congressional leaders have stressed fiscal restraint and accused Democrats of spending money the government does not have and should not be borrowing.

Republican congressional leaders stressed the same themes Friday responding to the DNC's "Party of No" clock.

"If Democrats want to highlight the plan Republicans designed and gave to the President that said no to government waste, no to tax increases, no to saddling every child in America with $70,000 of debt, and yes to creating small business jobs, we applaud them for getting our message out," Brad Dayspring, spokesman for House Minority Whip Eric Cantor of Virginia said in a statement emailed to CNN.

“If I had to defend the President’s budget, which is being eviscerated by both parties because it spends too much, taxes too much, and borrows too much, I’d probably waste time on fictitious claims like this too,” Antonia Ferrier, spokeswoman for House Minority Leader John Boehner told CNN.

NO- the Republicans should not support these huge spending bills. Republicans are the party of the people, they look out for the "working" people. If the Democrats can't figure out what happens when they spend, spend and spend some more.......they need to take a close look at California (where spendaholic Pelosi is from). This country will be bankrupt in no time.

Wow.. the republicans are using the same math that most of the idiots on these threads use when they say that instead of giving money to the banks.. they should just give that money to each person.. which would make us all millionaires, right? Oh wait.. that only comes out to about $3500 a person 🙂 But, according to Republican math, it's $70,000 per child?

And Jon.. to answer your questions, us Dems complain because the Republicans spent relatively the same amount of money.. but that money went to helping other countries. When we send money to rebuild Iraq from top to bottom.. that's responsible. When we use that same money to help rebuild our own country, the repubs cry socialism. Well... personally, I'd rather be called a socialist and spend that money rebuilding our own country instead of someone else's.

In other words it's not "debt" you have a problem with, it's spending priorities irrespective of if they occur on a debt or a surplus. You wouldn't care if the past 8 years of spending yielded surplus or not. It's not my density, sir, it's your disingenuousness.

I'd like to ask the republicans where is that 850B that your GREAT president spreaded the wealth went too? Ya'll are a bunch of Jack-!

How can you say this president is stupid when you excepted the former president breaking this country. At least this one is trying to help educate our kids, give health care to you idiots not that you deserve it since you are complaining about hand-outs, and building our bridges and roads that is in terrible shape. Do you poeple care about human life like you claim you do or are you more concern with who is governing you, as in race! How can you care about an unborn life, but not those that are already in the earth. You people really are crazy.

To the so called christians/conservative, which you are neither. Jesus said, "the least you do unto them you have done unto me". If you can't help the poor, tend to the sick, or love your neighbor as Christ has, then you are not his disciples. So, my second question is who are you if Jesus says you are NOT his disciples? Let me help you, you are of the devil and you are his servants. Now that's the truth! You people are no child of God, that spews the hate that comes from your mouth. At least we know where the money is going, too those who really need it. The ones who paid into the same system, that tells you they will help you when you get old, now you call it socialism. But is is not socialism when you are taking the money from people every month. Why pay taxes if it can't be used to help our schooling system and seniors who can't buy healthcare or work? The sad thing about this medicare and SS system is that we didn't ask them to take our money, they just decided to take it. Now you fools are complaining about people getting the very money they put there. Have you forgot that you too will get old one day, can't work, nor pay your healthcare unless you are one of those on wall street, where you have robbed the poor to become rich. Do you know how many people are working citizens and can't afford healthcare, it's to much. Do you realize that some people are paying over 8K a year for healthcare? Do you realize this is why so many are without healthcare, idiots? Do you really believe, the insurance companies, pharmacuticals, and doctors are going to look our for us? No, they are not. They are a team, we will be the only ones butt out, while your rich republican thugs live freely off you and get free healthcare.

As an independent who visits this site often and enjoys reading the points of views of both the democrats and republicans. I have to give this one to the Dems. It's amazing that after January 20th all of a sudden every single republican has become an expert on the economy and as far as the dems turning the government socialist goes, I believe the only socialist instutions America has are the emergency services (such as Police and Fire services). It would appear republicans have no problems with socialism concerning these services. And for Gordon Shumway, I compare having welfare recipients take drug test to requiring voters to have served in the military before they are allowed to vote. According to your logic people on welfare are living off the rest of society. Well, aren't civilians surviving off the sacrifises of military men and women. It's starting to appear that when not in power the republicans seem to have a solution for everything however, when they have the power they have no ideas except for more tax cuts to those that frankly pays less in taxes than their employees

    Here's where you are wrong:
The Republicans did not spend to better America, rebuild roads and schools and keep people from going wrong. The Republican spent all our money on an illegal war. They spent all our money to rebuild Iran and not America. Can't you understand the difference?

@ Sandra who said :"Republicans are the party of the people, they look out for the "working" people"

Hmmmm . . . no, Sandra . . . not exactly. Ever hear the phrase "trickle-down economics"??? That's Republican (ala Reagan . . . remember???) That means the Republicans believe in building the economy from the top (ie wealthy & corporations) and hope that it will trickle down to the bottom (ie working people). The Democrats believe in building the economy from the bottom up. That's actually one of the big, basic differences in the ideology of the two parties.
