Cheney belongs in jail, says Dreyfus

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/03/19/art.dreyfus.gi.jpg caption="Dreyfus was in Washington to promote preservation of Civil War battlefields."](CNN) - He played Dick Cheney in the recent Oliver Stone film 'W,' but Richard Dreyfuss made clear he's no fan of the former vice president.

In Washington Wednesday to promote preservation of the country's civil war battlefields, Dreyfuss quipped to Politico he's not missing former President Bush's No. 2.

"I miss having him in jail, that's where he belongs," the actor said.

Watch: Cheney: I worry very much

Dreyfuss is known for his outspokenness across the political spectrum, calling his former director Oliver Stone a "fascist on the left" last fall.

Cheney himself isn't holding back punches of his own. In an interview on CNN's State of the Union with John King last Sunday, he derided the Obama administration's national security policies and said they have made the country less safe.

Yeah, just because you're a celebrity doesn't mean your opinion is more relevant than anyone else's. Get over yourself and just do your craft like the rest of us. That being said, I'm not particularly a fan of Cheney, either. I don't feel the need to pontificate my opinion, however.

Wow! I am so glad CNN posts the thoughts of Hollywood intelects. Why do Americans care about the opinions of an actor, someone we pay like an orgin-grinder's monkey to intertain us.

Dryfuss is absolutely right; Cheney is a criminal and a war profiteer.

and to keep denouncing what Obama is doing so early on is shameful.

Actors should just act, politicians should just lie cheat and steal, after all that's what all of them do best

I don't think you will find many that don't agree with Dreyfuss, Cheney should be sent to his favorite place GITMO for life!

There is no question that Dick Cheney should be put in jail. The better question is for what charges should he sentenced to and would there be a possibility for parole?

I don't know whose commentary is less important – Dreyfus or Cheney. Let's call it even & they both have to go away.

I agree whole heartedly. I love Dreyfus, I don't care what one idiot says. He is entitled to his opinion like anyone else, and he is right on.

ITs becoming apparent its not a left vs right issue but a US CITIZEN vs WASHINGTON issue.

Things fall in place if you see how we are being used by BOTH SIDES.

If you think this is ALL Bush's and those on the right's fault you are only HALF right.

These people (actors) get a job where all they have to do is follow a script and they think they know everything. Amazing because if they ever had to think for themselves they would be on the corner with a tin cup.

Put them all in Jail, even the Democrats! They all think that they're above the law. Liers, tax evaders, etc...

That's one of the problems with America today, people actually think what entertainers say is relevent or important.

Great understanding of the legal system around here. "I don't like the choices they made while in office! Put them in jail!" Mr. Holland needs to slip further into obscurity.

I always liked Richard. He's totally correct. The profound truth is that there's evidence to support a trial for Mr. Cheney also. When is CNN going to ask Eric Holder or President Obama when the investigations are going to start into torture and wrongful imprisonment and illegal wiretapping – or did CNN learn nothing from it's time dealing with the Bush administration? Ask the current administration if they think enforcing the law is just optional when Presidents and Vice Presidents break it. If they won't investigate it, then on some level they must agree it was ok to do as well.

Who cares what this Hollywood elite has to say, I certainly don't!

The ones who are destroying this country are still in office, like Dodd, Frank, Pelosi and Obama!

It's shameful what these self-serving elected officials are doing to the American people!
