Pelosi stands by immigration raid remarks

House

House

(CNN) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that she was standing by her statement that enforcement of some existing immigration laws is "un-American."

"ICE raids that separate parents from their children in the middle of the night are un-American, and I stand by that," Pelosi said when questioned about her remarks made last week at an immigration rally in San Francisco.

"We have to enforce our laws, we have to control our borders..." the California congresswoman told reporters. "We have to protect our workers, we have to, I believe, have a path to legalization for people who are in our country who are not fully documented. But we don't have to kick in doors in the middle of the night and take fathers out of their homes and think that we are solving the issue when we really need comprehensive immigration reform."

On Saturday, at an immigration rally in San Francisco, Pelosi criticized the practice of work site and housing raids conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Pelosi praised the predominantly immigrant audience, calling them "very, very patriotic" for "taking responsibility for country's future" by attending the rally on a Saturday night

"Who in this country would not want to change a policy of kicking in doors in the middle of the night and sending a parent away from their families," Pelosi said Saturday. "It must be stopped. What value system is that? I think it's un-American. I think it's un-American."

As the son of LEGAL immigrants, I am absolutely outraged by this country's catering of ILLEGAL immigrant CRIMINALS, many of whom arrived in this country leaving their family in poverty behind. It is THEY who tore their family apart, not us!

This is a tough issue for me. We need balance. If someone is here illegally, they need to be financially independent of US social services. I don't people would care as much if there wasn't this large financial burden put on American taxpayers.

Pelosi's "yes we can" and "no we don't" in the same breath says it all. Nobody has been able to fix this problem and it will be a cold day in hell when a solution is found.

Well soon enough damage will be on her hands with these incerdibly stupid statements and even the liberals will have to see the handwriting on the wall....They will be the ones who will feel the wrath of the voters.

She has been a train wreck in the San Francisco Bay Area (I used to live there....But left. Now in Las Vegas NV) I've seen what she can do and it's mostly the wrong thing. And she and a few others ( Holder) want to trample your second amendment rights so watch out!

Queen Pelosi needs to be gone before she damager the Dems further or they will see a lot of Repubs taking over!!!

    Clueless woman.
What part of ILLEGAL is she having problems understanding?
The cops kick down doors and haul parents away from children for far lesser crimes.
What makes an illegal immigrant so special that they don't deserve to have their butt dragged out of bed or hauled off the job site?

    The law is the law.
Either follow it honey or resign.

Don't confuse being Hispanic with being from another country. Too often, if the skin is tan and the last name Spanish, the ignorant presumption is made that the person must be not only an immigrant but here illegally. If you're not going to question a Gustafson or an O'Reilly then leave Lopez and Rodriguez alone. We need to hold accountable the big business operations that hire illegal workers. Fine them. I don't like the drain on resources that illegal immigration causes but we still need to retain our humanity towards those that have come here while they are in the deportation process. No matter if the last name is Escobar or Miller or Wong.

Ruth: Fortunately she is TWO heat beats away; little concilation in that however. She and Reid are birds of an insipid feather.

People like Pelosi make me want to renounce my US citizenship, so does AIG for that matter. I think I will sneak across the border into Mexico....right now drug cartels are more appetizing.

Disgusting that an elected official makes such remarks such and is not asked to resign. The people have already spoken on this issue. Build the fence and enforce the laws. We'll then talk about reform, not amnesty!!

This is not a liberal or conservative issue. It's an issue that the people of this country want resolved and for the US to return to US traditions and not be the United States of Northern Mexico. Enough is enough!

Pelosi needs to cite specific instances where immigration authorities have kicked down a door in the middle of the night and separated illegal parents from their children. She is impugning the integrity of every officer of the immigration service. She also represents a District (San Francisco) that has declared itself a "sanctuary city" and refuses to cooperate with immigration authorities even when an illegal alien has a felony backgroung or known gang affiliation. And what is she talking about when says these people are "patriotic" when they sneak in the back door, proudly wave the Mexican flag, and hold on to their language and culture while failing to embrace the language and culture of the U.S. I'm a Democrat, but Pelosi, to me, is to the Democrats what Rush Limbaugh is to the Republicans.

    It's American to be LEGAL.

    It's un-American to be ILLEGAL

As usual, Nancy's on the far-out left wing of the left wing.
    Why am I not surprised.

Can you impeach a Speaker for not supporting the law of the land. This person is two heartbeats away from the Presidency. In her job she has no choice but to enforce the law.

Ok, this is where the habitually mean spirited GOP, that wants america to fail fanatics, can have a field day and I'll simply have to sit back and take it. Pelosi (as well as Reid) is by all measures the poster child for what's wrong with the democratic party.

There are the failures on both sides for certain. It is my belief that the republican party is completely outdated and lacks original thought process and thus is the worse of two evils.

In the end, The truth sucks at times, but she (Pelosi) sucks all the time!

and PS: I actually get the pleasure of voting against her next time!

  18. Too True For You

This is a complex issue, and Pelosi is not helping (BIG surprise) it by taking the republican route of clouding stark issues by emotionally wrapping them in the flag and family.

That is not constructive, and does not forward the debate one whit. Look, I'm a democrat, but I have to say, is this all this woman is capable of? Screwing things up?

All this outrage on illegal immigrants. Did I miss something? Are Americans being denied the opportunity to pick fruit and vegetables, 12 hours a day for sub-minimum wages, without medical & dental benefits? Half of you can't get your X-box playing, entitled brats, to mow your own lawn. People are not jumping the border to run AIG, GE or Citigroup. Face it, immigrants, illegal, legal or enslaved have always done the jobs we as Americans won't do. Save the outrage for the business owner who knowingly hire illegals so they can line their pockets, if no one were willing to hire them I doubt they would have an incentive to come here.

Being taxed for illegal immigrants and the strains they put on our economy is also UN-american.

If this government isn't going to do anything about it then TAX them and TAX ALL OF THESE COMPANIES THAT THE GOVERNMENT is so intent on letting them get away while going after people who make less than the poverty level to gain revenue.

People come here to make a better life for themselves, not to harm you or me or America. They are not inherently criminal. Some work very hard. I agree with Pelosi: kicking in doors, scaring people and dragging parents away from children is remarkably cruel.

There is a big difference between enforcing the law and abusing people.
