Geithner leads by example ... in coach

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner says he never rides first class."]

(CNN) - As the government tries to curb corporate excess of companies receiving federal bailout money, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner appears to be leading by example.

The man who was grilled by Congress last week over the AIG bonuses took the Delta shuttle from New York to Washington on Saturday, riding in the coach section. Asked why not first class, Geithner said he always rides coach, "never first class".

Finally someone is leading by example. Perhaps riding in coach he can talk to a few every day people about the economic mess we're in.

Good for him, better for us.

Leading by example – some example, the motor industry executives who flew into D.C. for Senate hearings.

You would have to be dumb as dirt not to learn something from those folks.

And of course he was counting on a pro Obama outlet like CNN to bring his "example" to public notice.

What a small thing to do to try to hoodwink the American citizens that he has a soul. Did he offer to apply his $300,000plus take from countrywide back to apply to the national debt? Did he offer an apology for cheating on his taxes? Did he try to explain why he wants to takeover all American businesses?

Besides in a crash the coach section is traditionally safer.

Got to love this tax cheating guy. Wow, what a great example. He took the Delta shuttle once and even took the coach section so CNN could report it. WOW, what a guy!

Maybe we could get useless Pelosi to do the same. Perhaps with tax cheat Geithner's wonderful example Pelosi would give up her jet and travel coach. After all, that jet is only costing the tax payers 5.2 million per year. And don't tell me it's not safe for her to travel that way. If it isn't safe for her, than it isn't safe for the American people to travel that way.

And this wonderful tax cheat guy is the same guy that gave the ok to pay AIG folks these bonuses (tax payer money).

CNN really. We know, you know, and you know we know there are far more important things you should be reporting. Stop being lap dogs for these guys. It's now really starting to get sad.

Duh, of course he's in coach. That's where government employees always ride unless they pay the difference out of pocket. Geithner is a fiscal conservative. He's cheap.

If obama cared anything at all about this country he would dismiss this man.
But 50% of us know obama is out to destroy this country.
45% are waiting for their new house, tank of gasoline and welfare check.

Now if we could only get him to pay his taxes. Since the Democrats always love US to pay them so much. Lead by example, you loser.

Geithner would not be qualified to clean the toilets in Pelosi's taxpayer-provided super jet.

That's admirable. He's probably in the minority when it comes to political figures.

Just curious: does someone in his current position travel with security? Does being in the presidential cabinet require having Secret Service protection?

I'd much rather have himstop pouring billions into criminal financial enterprises on Wall Street than saving a pittance on airfare. I agree with William Grider who told Bill Moyers that Obama is hardly a change agent but is working to conserve America as a corporate state, where money tallks and the proletariat walks.

I'm surprised they even offer anything other than coach, of course it's less than an hour flight. I'm also surprised that he didn't try to hijack Pelosi's plane, I hear it's much more comfortable!

This guy doesn't communicate his message very well, but I think he is trying his best and is trying to incorporate his plans with leaders in business, while acknowledging their mistakes and the understandable populist outrage. Easy to critisize him, but I'm not hearing very good alternatives.
