Obama team deploys campaign tactics to get point across

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="President Obama held an online town hall, in which people could send in questions from their computers."]

WASHINGTON (CNN) - From fielding questions online, to the staging of events across the country, to deploying thousands of volunteers, President Obama and Democrats are using the same tools that helped them win the White House to push the administration's agenda.

Supporters say the same tactics used during the campaign also work to educate Americans about the president's proposed budget and the stimulus plan.

Political experts say in order for Obama to keep his approval ratings high, he will need his agenda to be successful. To do that, they say, he and the White House will need to keep up the sales job.

The legions of volunteer supporters from the 2008 election are key to that effort. Democrats have a database of more than 13 million e-mail addresses and are eager to harness that support.

The Democratic National Committee has formed a new group called Organizing For America. Last weekend, it organized 10,000 volunteers to canvass across the country to get 100,000 people to pledge support for the administration's policies.

"We are not an electoral organization. I mean this is really about legislative advocacy and so we are going to continue supporting the president's agenda and we are not looking at 2010, and we are not looking at 2012," Mitch Stewart, executive director of Organizing for America, told CNN. "What we are looking at what kind of grassroots organization can best support the president's agenda."

You people who are so unhappy with the president; you have 2012 to look forward too and your candiates do not look very hopeful. I guess you will have 8 years to gripe with this president or a new one. It is obvious you do not want to work with Obama; you only believe what you what to believe, see what you want to see and hear what you want to hear. I was always proud to be an American but these blogs are getting to me and the way I feel. When you call your President sleazy that is tacky but I guess that is better than the usual racist comments that flow all thru the internet.

There are some real duffuses on this know who you are. Let's put things in perspective – shall we?
The budget was exploded when we invaded Iraq (illegally). "If you break it you fix it" remember that? So we send billions to repair and rebuild Iraq – do any of you dunderheads remember that? There were billions shipped on pallets and lost in the dessert – you remember troops playing football with bundles of the stuff?

So according to a number of idiots, we here in the U.S. aren't as worthy of rebuilding as was the country of Iraq. And you brainless morons call yourselves Americans. Try thinking about what you're saying before you show the rather modest level of your IQ.

Obama is going to devastate this economy and create a situation where millions will have to become dependent on the government. This is a radical socialist agenda. It needs to be stopped.

Unbelievable. An uproar because Obama knows how to use technology and keeps the lines of communication/activism open. We should be happy that he's taking the time to engage everyday Americans and show us how to get involved in the decision making process in Wash.

The Republican supporters, saying Obama is worse that Bush, are clearly not concerned about rescuing our country from the depths of economic hell. They think the path we were on with Bush was just fine. Obama hasn't even been in office 100 days and Repubs expect him to have already reversed all of the horrible decisions that Bushie made. Funny that Repubs never held Georgie to that same standard. Or even made a peep about what he was doing to our deficit after Clinton the Dem left him a surplus. Even historians put Bush in the bottom 10 Presidents of all time.

Anyone who thinks George Bush is more intelligent (or to translate into Bushspeak: "a better decider") than Barack Obama, please move to Canada so we can heal our nation in peace. As mom always said, "you can't fix stupid".

I think people are getting sick of looking at Obama every time they turn on the TV. Why is the media so stuck on him?

Did not like the Republican big spending ways and do not like Obama's even BIGGER spending ways! Just because he is a Democrat you do not have to support more debt – unless you are a blind follower to your party. How did that work for all the homeowners that took on too much Debt. Come on, homeowners and government have to live within their means. SAY NO TO THE BIG BUDGET IF THE ORGANIZERS CONTACT YOU!

Keeping his approval ratings high is the end goal? Not something totally archaic, like maybe, doing the right thing for all Americans?

Once again the idiots that support the GOP and the same old policies that got us into this mess are again are back at CNN. I love the "fear words"...Acorn, socialism (OMG), God help us, doomsday..blah blah blah. This President has done and will continue to do more in his first year than that dopey Bush did in 8. Some people are just mad that we have a diverse group in the white house as oppose to a bunch of old white guys (one even with a fake tan) in the GOP who have absolutely nothing to offer except of course the distraction of Limbaugh...

Change we cant trust. Obama is doing the same tactics that Hitler,Stalin, and many other Dictators have done. It don't matter he will be reelected in 2012. This guy is amazing at making people believe his crap. We should have to take a 5th grade test before we are allowed to vote. I MISS GEORGE W. THERE I SAID IT.

It's scary what is happening in our country, this indoctrination campaign is nothing short of propaganda. Glad to see some of the comments posted here & that people are finally waking up from their long nap. The blogosphere seems to be the only place to find true information and even there, "viewer beware."

I'm sorry, are Republicans complaining because President Obama is actually talking to the American people? Are Republicans upset because he is explaining the situation we are in and what his plans are to fix things? Are Republicans upset that President Obama is telling his point of view rather than allowing Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glen Beck, Fox News and the other right wing talking heads tell you what they want you to believe he is saying? What exactly are you Republicans complaining about now? Not use to having a President that can articulate his thoughts?

I think its clear what kind of people who voted for Obama and still think that he's a true American: the brain dead, the socialists ( most of our college professors and the print and on air newspeople and commentators) and those political folks who reley on politics for their income. If you haven't seen the truth as to how he's trying to force us into socialism ( a lot of you independents are finally starting to figure out) then you are either stupid or a socialist yourself.
Just remember Americans, the great Declaration of Independence still gives us the right to rise up against a government that is unresponsive to the will of the people. Yor better stock up on guns and ammo.

I strongly suspect these volunteers double as brownshirts. Obama wants to know who supports him, and who doesn't, and exactly where they are, and where they live. Is there anyone who doesn't see a bright red flag here?

I voted for the guy but I'm regretting it now. It seems like we have no true leader. America needs a strong leader who will turn the page rather than point fingers like a kid in a playground "I didn't do it, he did". Grow up Obama. If you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen.

"The disappointing aspect of the vicious, demeaning attempts to undermine the success of our great country to overcome this difficult and troubled period, does really demonstrate the quality of the present Republican mentality: the envious, destructive cries for failure are beyond dismay and poorly concealed bigotry."

Just wanted to make this statement a fact. You need to change the word Republican to Democrat and apply it to the 8 years that Bush was in office. Libs should look into the eyes of our servicemen and think about how they woke up each morning hoping to hear about our soldiers dying in Iraq.

I don't understand why some people have a problem with the President using a teleprompter. It is no different than having notes in front of you when giving a presentation and there is nothing wrong with that !

The 170 or so electoral college votes representing voters for McCain need a rude awakening. Are these people citizens of the US ? Do they love this country or just themselves. I am sure that this group is unaware that they were played by the republicans for the last 30 years. Like those unfortunate women in abusive relationships – they are unaware how pathetic / sad they appear when they show support and dedication to a profligate and concupiscent spouse ( The GOP). Get some Help !!!

The usual spewing of hate and ignorance from the Grand Obstructionist Party... The same folks that think a bundle of papers whipped together in an afternoon, repeating the same failed policies we've heard for eight years while presenting no numbers, counts as a "budget". What a joke.

What do you want him to do? Go on vacation all the time like your hero King George Jr. did? Better to have a president that's engaged and working to keep the American people engaged than a bumbling moron that can barely string a sentance together.

President Obama, you are not running for president, you are running a country. Please help save our economy by stablizing the banking system but also by balancing the budget. Please Mr. President have the courage not to run up the debt, not to support pork projects or earmarks. We can reverse this so-called stimulus package that was really pork. We can cut the deficit this year rather than increase them. I grant you that this is a world wide economic slump that is not your fault (maybe not anyone's fault). But we are counting on you to do the fiscally responsible thing to help us get out of it.

what kind of leader needs signed pledges of budget policy support?

think about it. the guy goes on youtube, and activates his cells to go door to door, asking you to sign pledges of blind support.

what other leaders have resorted to these kinds of tactics?

I do not belong to any political party but it amazes me to read some of the stupid comments and criticisms that are coming from obvious right wing nuts. One only has to look at some their spelling and grammar to understand what uneducated idiots they are. It is also probably some deep seated jealousy of Obama and his achievements with his education. Then there is the teleprompter thing which is supposed to mean Obama cannot speak off the cuff. I am willing to bet that not one of those morons who criticize Obama could even read intelligently off a teleprompter let alone make any intelligent speech without one.

Good. The campaign was all about involving people and making them part of the process. That's how democracy is supposed to work.
