Obama team deploys campaign tactics to get point across

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="President Obama held an online town hall, in which people could send in questions from their computers."]

WASHINGTON (CNN) - From fielding questions online, to the staging of events across the country, to deploying thousands of volunteers, President Obama and Democrats are using the same tools that helped them win the White House to push the administration's agenda.

Supporters say the same tactics used during the campaign also work to educate Americans about the president's proposed budget and the stimulus plan.

Political experts say in order for Obama to keep his approval ratings high, he will need his agenda to be successful. To do that, they say, he and the White House will need to keep up the sales job.

The legions of volunteer supporters from the 2008 election are key to that effort. Democrats have a database of more than 13 million e-mail addresses and are eager to harness that support.

The Democratic National Committee has formed a new group called Organizing For America. Last weekend, it organized 10,000 volunteers to canvass across the country to get 100,000 people to pledge support for the administration's policies.

"We are not an electoral organization. I mean this is really about legislative advocacy and so we are going to continue supporting the president's agenda and we are not looking at 2010, and we are not looking at 2012," Mitch Stewart, executive director of Organizing for America, told CNN. "What we are looking at what kind of grassroots organization can best support the president's agenda."

How does spending millions of stimulus dollars on military bases in Guam stimulate "our" economy and save/create jobs in America for Americans?

You did hire a community organizer in November. Mobilize people with blind faith, and they will get you results. Remember these same tactics were able to register the names of the entire Dallas Cowbays football team as eligible voters in Nevada not to mention a person named "Mickey Mouse".

Its really scary what may get pushed through by people with blind faith. Is increasing the deficit by trillions a good idea? The value of the dollar is teetering. China is less enthusiastic in buying our debt. We have to repay this debt. And it is either cut programs or increase taxes – and it will have to be on everybody, sorry it will of course not in the next 4 years it will be who ever follows that will have to break it to Americans. This budget is scary, and will not help the economy.

Oh no! Obama is President! It's the end of the world!...

Why don't some of you seriously wake up and realize that it is not November 4th anymore. GET OVER IT! McCain lost! It's time to compromise. So if McCain would have won, would you have wanted every single Democrat to try and work with him, or would you rather have every single Democrat outright oppose him in every way possible?

I don't understand why so many people think it's the end of the world. Take a chill pill and relax. Seriously.

I supported and voted for Obama. But I am against part of his budget. In 1994, Hillary already tried the universal health care thing, and what happened? The republicans made major gains that election.

Obama needs to focus on the economy, and stop trying to do too much. I would vote for him again if the election were held today though, because an ignorant Palin anywhere near Washington is much too scary, and McCain cannot keep his ideas straight – he was the one who proposed buying the bad mortages during the town hall meeting before the election, and now he is against it – he is senile I guess.

But that does not justify Obama and the democrats: remember that even in 2012 the democrats win again because of another Palin or even Palin herself on the GOP ticket, 2010 may be different. I know that I cannot support the democrats in 2010 if they continue their spending spree and clueless policies. Geithner should be fired, yet Obama expressed his full confidence? Has he not read about the guy?

I received Obama's email. I called my representatives, but not in support – I told them I was against the budget as is.

"Obama's Wrong" according to Paul Krugman. It's the feature article in the current Newsweek.

Why does Obama still campaign? That's all he knows how to do; he is an empty suit.

What a refreshing change President Obama is. To think that he actually goes before the general populace to educate them about the plans he's put together is amazing. In the past, the President didn't go to the people, just put his plans in motion, no matter what the majority thought. Kudos to our President.

What a revelation. A Pres that involves and informs the public. What a far cry from the previous years of secrecy, wire tapping and spying on our own people. We should do away with this 2-term presidency and let the man run as many years as he wants like FDR

People please! Seriously, I read all the comments. I'm a conservative but it was out of control the last 8 years. Now ...oh boy! If thing wasn't bad enough before ...etc. These people are totally out of control. Also, the dems in congress didn't even try to work with Bush either. It's simple, hey will never work together until we mke them

Lets face it, the extreme right and left is totally destroying this nation. Obama is an extreme left, say what you want but I promise that you will be paying for it "literally" the trade laws are the economy crisis and nobody is saying that. It's time that all of us think for ourselves and vote all these idiots out of office and remind them that we the people runs the united states of America.

I truely hope 2010 be be the year that we vote out every person that's coming up fore re-election. That alone woul tell them that we are done with them not working together.

I know if we get rid of the extreme rights & lefts the res of us can find common ground.

For those ignorant people who voted for 4 more years of the same failed policies, I know it must be difficult for you.

Losing an election by over 10 million votes, and now, having to support what is left of your congressional leaders, who came up with a 19 page budget with no numbers, other than a tax break for the wealthy that would eliminate all social security and medicare, and won't sustain our military.

I think high school juniors could come up with more that 19 pages.

the entire online thing was a joke, and i'm sorry i participated. furthermore, i wont play again, either. he laughed off the top vote getter and ruined a perfect chance of opening dialogue on the subject that apparently a lot of folks are concerned with. i'm waiting for my next email invitation so i can unsubscribe from his lame donor list. sorry i wasted my money and time , just to be ridiculed and dismmised.what a huge disappointment he has become. what happened to the so-called 'pragmatism'?

I don't see President Obama having any choice in the matter. He must "campaign" 24/7 to get their "CHANGE AGENDA" out to the nation. This is because the GOP is doing a good job of smearing every plan Obama put forth.

It seems that the only thing Obama does know how to do is campaign. I have not seen anything he has done so far, except spend lots of our money with no guarantees other than that our taxes will go up and our children will have to pay even more. When money is tight, the logical thing to do is cut back. Politicians seem to think the thing to do is spend, spend, spend our money.

Whatever works is good enough for me. And apparently, what Obama is doing, it seems to be working. You Republicans aren't even willing to give the man a chance. Why don't you put some of your energy to work for your own party instead of wasting it on running down us Democrts? No, you feel better when you sit there moaning and groaning, don't you? Poor little Republican party. Lost and can't find it's way. Too bad!!! Get over it!!

Obama is continuing the one thing he knows, campaigning. Take that away and you are apparently left with a man and his "team" who are muddling their way through a nations problems. The President and those around him who should be targeting national crises are instead spewing jibes at Republicans, elected or otherwise, and sticking journalists and media pundits who question the Presidents agenda with a lesson in "Who's the Boss".
Seeing the President on Jay Leno did nothing to soothe my fears about the future of America.

However doesn’t addressing the needs of those with Disabilities! How does President Obama’s medical proposal help; when it will be in line with that of the socialistic point of view? This would also go in to taxing Social Security at the same time cover the illegal immigrants with services they are not entitled to receiving!

The people, the power of we the people, are engaged. Sure the Republicans would like to see him disengage, so that they can isolate him. He is in Washington long enough to know the tactics of the right wing, so called conservatives. Their hopes of separating him is a pipe dream, soon to become a nightmare.
They cannot lick the people. We have got back our government from you guys who carried on as if we were working for you. George behaved as if he was king George, Chaney acted as if he was above the law. Now, our government belongs to us again. We want the President to use every available means to inform us of what his vision is and the path to get there. We are not about to listen to those who demonstrated their contempt for law and for the poor. The President's biggest mistake would be to leave us out of the loop.

Deploy? Come on, it never stopped... I voted for the guy last November and his campaigning hasn't stopped for even a breather. The indoctrination is incredible. There are even cartoon messages on Nickelodeon. I am waiting for his statue to pop up in our parks and large painted portraits to adorn the walls of our skyscrapers. It will be just like Stalin. I didn't believe all the Socialist conspiracy people, but I am beginning to wonder myself.

I would rarther have a president that keeps us informed, and is imformed that one that hides behind fear and lies like the last one. The problem with the whiners is they so used to fear and lies and a president that was not the brightest bulb in the socket that when we finally get a real working president that there fear wont let the see that there is a president that think and do at the same time. Whiners come out of the dark and into the light and let a real leader lead. The republicans are not the way to lead, they gave us this mess and bankupted this country. President Obama has done more work in two months then bush did in 8 years. NO more tax breaks for the rich.
