Diplomat blows off Cheney dig at Obama

WASHINGTON (CNN) – A senior diplomat in the Obama administration Sunday challenged former Vice President Dick Cheney’s assessment of the new administration’s ability to keep the country safe.

Cheney was asked two weeks ago on CNN’s State of the Union whether he thought President Obama had made the country less safe since taking office. “I do,” Cheney told CNN Chief National Correspondent John King. “He is making some choices that, in my mind, will, in fact, raise the risk to the American people of another attack,” the former vice president added.

But U.S. special envoy Richard Holbrooke, a senior diplomat in Obama’s State Department, said Sunday that he didn’t understand where Cheney was coming from with his criticism.

“I don’t have a clue what he’s talking about,” Holbrooke said,

“We are treating Afghanistan and Pakistan as a single theater. We are going to address it in an integrated way. We are going to give it more resources. And that is where the people planning the next attack on the United States or on our European allies are certainly doing it. So I just do not understand what his comments were referenced to.”

Gen. David Petraeus, echoed Holbrooke. “You served in the Bush administration under Vice President Cheney and President Bush,” King said to Petraeus. “You're now serving in the Obama administration. Are the American people less safe because of this new president?” King asked

“I wouldn’t necessarily agree with that,” the U.S. CENTCOM commander said Sunday.

Mr. Cheney, please go back to your undisclosed location. Crawl back into your hole and stay there.

GB in Texas- Are you for real? Did you forget about ALL of the foreign, and the initial domestic terrorist attacks during the Clinton years. Wait, I am sounding like you. Blaming the other side. Who cares who was in office. The fact remains that there are numerous nuts out there in our world that would love to bring America to it's knees. If you do not love your country, (and I am certain that you never fought for your country) then LEAVE. We have enough extremist liberals, and conservatives to tide us over for eternity. Join the moderate citizens of America to better our country, as opposed to destroy it. No one is holding you hostage to stay in this great country.

Cheney doesn't want to acknowledge that the American people have said good riddance to him. What a crook.

The fact that you did nothing to keep us safe on 9/11 makes your opinion irrelevant, Dick.

This is politics at its trickiest best. We all know that this country is under constant threat, regardless of who is in power. Why not say we're less safe? That way, if an unfortunate attack does happen, they can say "we told you so," and blame President Obama. It's the only thing they have to run on...fear.

I bet you can't name the members of the previous "team".
I'll give you a hint .. let's start with Paul Wolfowitz.
Surely you you remember his dramatic successes as an advisor to Mr. Cheney.

To prison with whole bunch of them, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Wolfowitz, Ashcroft, Gonzales, Yoo, war crimes and high crimes. It's the only way to prove to the rest of the world that we do indeed have laws which are enforced. If they walk.... the whole world sees the US as a country of hypocrits

Cheney should be in prison, and reimburse American taxpayers for the great financial harm he played a role in bringing upon the United States (trumped up intelligence to invade Iraq, etc.).

Also, he should be forced to buy his own healthcare for his cardiac problems, and remove himself from the taxpayer nip. How many millions has the US spent on Cheney's socialized healthcare? Enough is enough!

Cheney ordered the stand-down of NORAD on September 11, 2001 and he orchestrated the blowing up of the Twin Towers by explosives. The planes sole purupose was to distract from the explosives used. There was no plane that crashed into the Pentagon...it was a missle...and there was no plane in the ground in Philadelphia. It was all fake except the thousands of people Cheney murdered in the Twin Towers and god knows what he did with the real commercial planes with real people on them. Cheney is a Terrorist and Murderer!

Cheney is another word for EVIL. This guy has done more to hurt the USA than anyone. He should be pounding rocks instead of roaming our streets.

Both Bush and Cheney should face trial for their violation of US and International law. 9-11 happened on their watch and they used it to invade 2 countries. Instead of getting paid to go around and talk about it, send them over and work to straighten out the mess.

Calm down folks. People like this are seldom brought to justice; they can afford better justice than the rest of us. Our best hope, I'm sorry to say, is to bide our time and wait for the people like Cheney to REALLY fade away. Until then, he MUST have the right to be as poisonous as he wants to be.

Cheney is proof that sometimes, evolution can get caught in a backwater. Obama is proof that evolution really works.

Cheney has been and continues to be one of the most dangerous people in America, and the world for that matter. The less influence he has on world affairs, the better.

Dick Cheney, do humanity a great favour, go bury yourself in the outer fringes of the Tundra until the ressurection. Your continued foolish unguarded rambling is nothing but hot gas, and the atmosphere is hot already.

Cheney had barely made his remarks before we found out that Obama is planning on releasing terrorists from Guantanamo into the U.S. at taxpayer expense. We need a law requiring them to live in the homes of Congressman and Senators starting with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid first. Maybe one can be put up in the Lincoln Bedroom. Tell us that is keeping us safe?
