Tea Party: Will you be drinking or dunking?

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/04/15/art.teaparty1.gi.jpg caption="Activists nationwide are holding gatherings on Tax Day, April 15."]WASHINGTON (CNN) – Finger sandwiches won't be served, but there will be a lot of frustration brewing about the current tax system at "Tea Parties" being held Wednesday across the nation.

Activists are holding these events on tax day to voice their opposition to the current tax system and the federal government's spending decisions, such as bailing out the banks and the auto industry.

So, what do you think? Have President Obama and Congress taken the right steps to help the ailing economy? Have Republicans been smart to oppose his fiscal policies? Does the tax code need an overhaul?

Tell us your thoughts in the comment section below.

Here are some CNN stories about the nationwide "Tax Day Tea Party":

"interesting I bet you go around saying that America was founded on Christian values…don't you?"

Might go around saying it was founded on something like:
"all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights"

But hey... that's just that conservative wako Jefferson

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't all this start on George Bush's watch??? Why is Obama getting all the blame? He is just trying to clean up the mess the whole congress made. McCain didn't have any clear cut solutions either so we just need to sweep the whole bunch out and start over again!! Including the heads of the Wall Street firms that got the first bailout money. We are holding the automakers hostage while Wall Street is still running rampant! Sad, sad, sad!! Now even the unions are getting the blame. Next it will be our fault (which in fact it probably is for trusting any of these people).

Wow! The incredible ignorance of the run-of-the-mill teabagger here is just staggering!

Not a single one of them has provided anything remotely resembling a rationale for whatever the heck it is they are supposedly protesting. And, so many of their comments sound so eerily identical, they couldn't possibly be working from a dittohead-ish script, could they?

Facts??? They don't need no stinkin' facts!!! They got Rush, Bill, Sean, and FOX to tell them what to think, and it's traitorous to question their own dear leaders!

    Pathetic, pathetic, pathetic!

Do these people realize that lower taxes and lower deficits are mutually exclusive? Thank God most Americans can't figure out basic arithmetic.

What these protesters don't understand is that their RIGHT to protest is paid for by taxpayer dollars. If you don't like to pay taxes, you can move to a tax free nation, like Kuwait or Saudi Arabia. Oh, how much freedom is there???

    @ Romney2012,
You sound quite ignorant. Do YOU really work and if so do you make enough to even need to pay taxes. All liberals I know work hard and fair and arent out to rob somebody. I am white and voted for Obama because of his morals and ideals not his color so why are you claiming that just because someone is black that they only voted for him because he is the same color. Get a life and stop claiming to be mad at Obama because of his "poor" policies. Where were you when, for the past 50yrs or so, your party ran us into debt up to our ears and then some? Do you even know Obamas policies or just what Rush has told you? Get an education and then get a job.

  11. Little too late????

The 219 Republicans in the House/Senate could introduce legislation to solve global warming, balance the budget in 12 months, bring world peace and nominate BHO as president as long as he wants to be in charge. ...and it would get shot down by the 316 Demacrats led by Nancy and Harry. All because it was a REPUBLICAN idea and Nancy and Harry would fall on their swords to get it to NOT pass.

IF the elected voices of the Republicans are not heard in the quarum of 535, then it is OUR responsibility, our RIGHT to peacably assemble and address the gov for grevences. Just because it goes against the Demacrat's grain, it doesnt make wrong...it is ALL OF OUR RIGHT to voice our concerns with YOUR government...they are here to serve WE THE PEOPLE...not the other way around.

GOD BLESS AMERICA and the AMERICANS exercising their rights as AMERICANS!!!

I want to know exactly who decided to send a reporter in the middle of protesters and pull out the most extreme of them and try to "interview" them by screaming at them? Isn't news supposed to report the facts? This is why I don't watch Fox News.

    April 15, 2009 02:17 pm at 2:17 pm |
  13. 29% of Americans are TRAITORS for wanting America to FAIL and 71% of Americans to SUFFER!

The shrub commissioned two reports one on right wing extremists and one on left wing extremists.

The left-wing report came out in February stating that they were being watched for cyber attack. Now the right wing report is out saying skin heads, Arayan Nation and all those type of groups are also being monitored.

The repuke mouthpiece is now complaining that President Obama may use the Patriot Act to watch these folks since both reports indicated these folks could be the spawning ground for terrorism.

Remember this little fact should repubs EVER again achieve power in this country. The shrub and the dick did everything they could to expand the powers of the President. Do not complain now if a Democratic President takes advantage of the same extension of powers the repubs fought to install!

Repubs are now complaining about eavesdropping and email monitoring which is what the repubs instituted!!!

You neo-cons are schizophrenic!!! NOW, you worry about Constitutional rights and electronic esvesdropping being used to protect against terrorism!!!

Just heard on CNN an uninformed citizen at one of these "tea partys" call the President a facist. According to Webster's Dictionary facism is defined as "a governmental system characterized by nationalism, regimentation, rigid censorship, and suppression of opposition."

Sounds like this definition is describing the previous preidency...

Dear uniformed citizen, if you are going to make a statement, can you at least defend your statement? Unfortunately, you could not.

So how can our Vice president say it is patriotic to pay taxes when most of the Obama nominees skipped paying their fair share until they
were nominated for a job that was paid by the taxpayers??

The income tax and the IRS should be abolished, and replaced with some sort of national consumer tax. Necessary goods such as food, clothes, gasoline, etc. could be taxed at a low rate, and luxury items that only rich people can afford such as yachts, jets, etc. would be taxed at a higher rate. From what I have read and watched, The constitutional amendment and law which created the IRS and income tax are illegal and bogus; along with the "privately run" federal reserve, these acts were done behind the backs of the American People when Congress was not in session. The banks bought off the government.
Obviously this all happened long ago around 1913 or so during the Woodrow Wilson administration. Hard working people should not have to give their money to the government run by idiot politicians.

I don't like taxes and I am sure no one else does. However I do like nicely paved roads to drive my nice can on. I like good public transportation in case I don't have a nice care to drive I loved getting a nice high school education for free and being able to afford to pay for college. I like walking in and visiting the nice parks we have through out this great country of ours. And, any more i would like to have affordable housing and health care. None of these things could have in the past or will be possible in the future without the taxes. Republicans keep saying it is not fair to burden tour children with our debt, I think it would be much worse to burden them with a poor education poor health both mentally and physically and little or no chance for anything great in their future.

I think it's funny how the liberals are painting this as a Republican effort. I am not a republican, but I am fed up with the broken promises of Obama and the total lack of responsibility by his administration. Transparency? There doesn't seem to be any of that going on in the White House. The whole thing is a sham. Obama seems to only be interested in campaigning and lining the pockets of his "friends".

Make it count. Call the reps of those companies and TELL THEM that you refuse to support them if they advertise on Limbaugh. Get your friends to do the same.

Being patriotic isn't just picking up a gun and fighting... its also paying your taxes and supporting this country! I love my country and am honored to live here. I think those protesting at the so-called tea party are being used to undermine this country. How sad for us all.
