Tea Party: Will you be drinking or dunking?

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/04/15/art.teaparty1.gi.jpg caption="Activists nationwide are holding gatherings on Tax Day, April 15."]WASHINGTON (CNN) – Finger sandwiches won't be served, but there will be a lot of frustration brewing about the current tax system at "Tea Parties" being held Wednesday across the nation.

Activists are holding these events on tax day to voice their opposition to the current tax system and the federal government's spending decisions, such as bailing out the banks and the auto industry.

So, what do you think? Have President Obama and Congress taken the right steps to help the ailing economy? Have Republicans been smart to oppose his fiscal policies? Does the tax code need an overhaul?

Tell us your thoughts in the comment section below.

Here are some CNN stories about the nationwide "Tax Day Tea Party":

the republicans and conservatives of the right wing are not mad about taxes(continued tax cuts for the wealthiest 1%), big government (biggest gvmt expansion in recent memory) or wasteful spending(Iraq war of choice). If they were then they would have gathered about 6-8 years ago and protested the polices of George Bush and the republican party!!! They are mad because they are not in power. I dare any republican to refute the claims I've made above....I didn't think so. Hey everybody shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......................this is what change feels like.

Yes, please recount the number of bottom feeders looking for a handout last January. Caus' the gubamint is going to give me a tax refund (even though I don't pay taxes), free healf-care, more welfare, and pay the mortgage since I can't afford it.

HEY, arithmetic is liberal, are you enjoying the 13 dollars a pay check as much as I am? And by the way – I pay my fair share and then some. Just filed my taxes and wrote a big, fat check for additional taxes.

Put your money where your mouth is! If you are so worried about robbing your children because of mounting deficit then stop asking for a tax cut for yourself! The greatest increase in the national debt were the direct result of tax cuts for the rich. Reagan trippled the national debt, Bush Jr. doubled it, both due to giving tax breaks for the rich. And guess what, Reagan's tax cuts just resulted in the recession he passed onto Bush Sr., and we're still living in the recession produced by Bush Jr. But apparently you think you can have your taxcut AND so can your children. Sorry, it just doesn't work that way!

    Hypocrite Republicans
They were cheerleaders for a unnecessary war, deregulation,
tax cuts at a time when we could not afford them . now they are throwing tantrums because they have to pay for it. Where were your whiny little voices during the last eight years?

"I'm in a tax bracket that requires me to pay taxes, because I'm overpaid."

Cry me a river. I would gladly pay taxes on a 6 figure income and you would never hear a peep from me. If you don't feel the same, feel free to switch your 6 figure income with my 5 figure subpar military income that barely meets minimum wage standards. I don't do it for the money, thats for sure, and I sure don't do it because I can't get anything better (I can guarantee I'm better educated than most people that would dare say such a thing).

And for all of you that claim peoples income is due to their poor career choices. If everyone in the U.S. aspired to be a 250k+ a year sit at a desk do nothing employee, who would be constructing the buildings you work in, paving your roads, serving your food, securing your streets and putting out your fires. Next time you see one of us "lowly" employees, feel free to voice your opinion on how stupid we are for choosing the careers we do and see how far that gets you. Anyone who has the nerve to make a comment like that doesn't deserve a single thing they have. I'm glad I served in the military to defend a bunch of ungrateful self-centered schmucks.

I sure wish I wasn't working so that I could go to a tea party! I would loved to have experienced my first act of civil disobedience (I'm 51 years old) by being able to protest Obama's reckless spending sprees at our expense. I will tell you that the $30 extra I get twice a month from his wonderful stimulus tax cut doesn't do anything for me–I had to up my withholdings so I won't owe blood to the IRS next year. Thanks but no thanks, Obama. Stop spending all of our hard earned money to fix something that will quickly get broken again when you quit funneling money into it that we don't have!!

Wow look at all of the liberals getting worked up! Haha...I'm actually going to one right after I get off work. I love how the article said hundreds...there are hundreds of tea parties around the country with hundreds of people attending. If my math serves me correctly that would put it more into the tens of thousands, but hey, why use facts when CNN can spew more left wing garbage.

01/08/2013....CAN'T WAIT TO GET THE LARGEST SPENDING MOST LIBERAL IDIOT EVER OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE!!

Oh yeah...a little tired of hearing about Michelle's wardrobe and makeup artists...why can't the media cover her saying "whitie" instead..oh wait that's right it's because it would make her look bad and not help them push Obama's ridiculous policies.

Is everyone on drugs here? We have lost trillions. Trillions that we will never get back at least not for a very long time. The USA's wealth is tied up in the financial system. They had to put a plug on the bleeding. If the government didn't bailout the banks and our major economic producers (i.e. autos) then working class Americans would suffer the same fate as their great depression grandparents – Financial Hell.

I'm at work now. This is amusing. Do you morons even know what you're protesting? Your taxes will be much, much less than they were under Reagan. Your hero.

Mississippi Mike April 15th, 2009 12:15 pm ET

For those of us who actually pay taxes, it's nice to see that our peers have our best interest at heart. Unfortunately, unlike most professional protestors on the left, I have a job and can't make it to the local protest but my heart and commitment is with these tea parties.

Hate to break it to you Mikey, but these foul mouth inbreds they are showing on TV are not protestors from the left.

It is not just the high 1-percenters who will pay off Obama's proposed trillions-of-dollars budget for next year, get that straight. There are not enough 1-percenters in the USA to do this and we should all be able to figure this out easily. Democrats obviously can't.
Then, if the 1-percenters don't pay for it, who will? And for what? Some political posturing that's not good for the USA to start with.

Where were you protesters when the previous administration was doubling the deficit? Never heard a peep out of you.

These protests are kind of humorous until one digs a little deeper and realizes the protesters are too cowardly to openly protest having a black president (which is what's really eating them up), so they are protesting whatever Glenn Beck tells them to, even though it makes no rational sense.

Joe USA Retired – I could not agree more, so I would like to not pay taxes at all. I don't want to pay taxes so the rich can take my dollars and send it to foreign countries, but we have no say about this matter. I don't want to pay taxes to pay the salaries and pensions of corrupt politicians, but we have no say in this matter. I pay for my child's tuition, therefore I should not have to pay for other children to go to school.

I should not have to pay for these lying wars, or for the government to conduct covert operations in other countries, but I have no say in this matter either.

Where were all these hypocrites the past 8 years when the Bush administration was spending Billions and Billions of money (including the surplus left at the end of the Clinton Administration) on the supposed "Mission Accomplished" event in Iraq??? Iraq did not attack us!!! Why are we there???? Why not attack every country with potential terrorists??? Oops! May have to spend more money!!!! Hypocrites!!! True Republican Fascists! In my 60 years, I have never seen such a blatant display of ignorance about the American Revolution and history. Spoken by a PHD in law and history!! Go home and read a history book! How lame are you!
