Group says Bristol Palin to promote teen pregnancy prevention

Last year, Gov. Palin revealed that her teen daughter, Bristol, was unmarried and pregnant just as the Republican National Convention was beginning.

Last year, Gov. Palin revealed that her teen daughter, Bristol, was unmarried and pregnant just as the Republican National Convention was beginning.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Bristol Palin, the daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, will participate in a town hall meeting on Wednesday to help raise awareness for teen pregnancy prevention, the Candie's Foundation announced Tuesday.

"I am so happy to have this opportunity to work with The Candie's Foundation on spreading the message of teen pregnancy prevention," Palin said in a statement released by the group. "I feel that I could be a living example of the consequences of teen pregnancy. If I can prevent even one girl from getting pregnant, I will feel a sense of accomplishment."

Palin, 18, gave birth to a son, Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston, in December.

The Candie's Foundation, whose mission it is to "educate teens about the devastating consequences of teenage pregnancy," tapped her to be the teen ambassador for its National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. The group said she will participate in a town hall meeting at the Times Center in New York City Wednesday with actress Hayden Panettiere, baseball player Matt Garza, and other panelists.

It is amazing that the culture warriors would choose to use somebody like Bristol Palin as their voice.

Why would anybody listen to somebody who doesn't practice what they preach?

if these comments are reflective of the reception Bristol will experience, I advise her to skip the public apearance.
apparently the "morality" of this public does not forgive indiscretions and mistakes of the Palin offspring.
surely, these people will be more supportive with their own friends and familiies in similar circumstances

Has anyone else noticed that Bristol Palin, as limited intellectually as she may be, seems more mature and sensible than her mother?

I just hope this organization isn't dumb enough to promote 'abstinence only' education. Bristol herself was quoted as saying it's not realistic, so this would be a huge sell out on her part if she's all of a sudden for it now.

Wow – what can one say about this in so little space? Is she seriously joking? That is like having Jeffrey Dahmer perform meat inspection for Oscar Myers. That is like having Philip H. Markoff be the new censor at Craigslist. That is like making George Bush president of Princeton. That is like Sarah Palin being the new spokesperson for K-Mart fashions. Things must be going well in Alaska if all the attention is going there.

oh god does it never end with this family?? too funny, too funny

lets hire a few pedophiles to talk about child abuse while we're at it
hey, maybe they can help someone one who is tempted to do such a thing
    by discussing their failures......

too funny, I love this country and have fought for it and would again
but some of the stuff we do is just plain embarrassing and ANYTHING
to do with this pathetic white trash family seems to fall in that category

Bristol said that abstinance doesn't work so I "assume" she will be talking about different forms of birth control...or maybe, knowing the Palins and their socalled "values" perhaps a chastity belt.

Maybe Bristol can stop out-of-wedlock conception from reaching a third generation of her own family.

    CNN hearts Palin.

What else could explain their borderline obsession with a failed VP candidate?

I mean, I don't exactly remember CNN sending love notes to James Stockdale, or all-but-stalking Lloyd Bentsen.

I just visited the site for Candie's- there is no mention of birth control anywhere on the main site or the one it asks teens to visit. Instead, it offers statistics on teen attitudes towards sex (I am not a statistician and so can't comment on that) and the main message seems to be "wait." Sounds like abstinence-only to me.

When will this trailer park family ride off into the sunset?

I mean really Bristol is going to speak about teen pregnancy? Can she even read a sentence without having to use a dictionary.

What a joke it will be if Sarah Pallin runs for President.

I live in a trailer down by the white house!!

She is eighteen, has an upper middle-class family that is supporting her, and has a father of the child that wants to be involved. I am not sure she is the best spokesperson for the "devastating consequences of teenage pregnancy"!! If she is used in combination with girls whose family offered no support and was a younger teenager – not a near adult, perhaps it might work. If they are going for a "scared straight" effect, I don't think Bristol Palin is it.

And to think, her mother was selected to become "one heartbeat" from the presidency, she did such a great job of raising her own daughter, like mother, like daughter. If that party's only hope for return to the White House is found in Sarah and the message of abstinence is found in her daughter, they will be away for a long, long time.

Good for you Bristol! It takes a mature person to own up to their mistakes and take responsibility while at the same time loving and nurturing an unplanned baby. It's good to see young people get involved in their communities and take up a cause. Teen pregnancy is a serious issue and the solutions to this problem will take a wide diversity of people and ideas - solving this problem won't be a one-size-fits all solution.

"If I can prevent even one girl from getting pregnant, I will feel a sense of accomplishment." Umm, yea that girl's name was Bristol. Looks like you failed miserably.

The fact that beautiful children are so many times the result of poor decisions is proof that there is a God.

Yep....this has become quite a freakshow.
I wish they would just cut to the chase and start their own reality TV show that features them as dysfunctional and camera cheezing group they are. We could do the moose hunt thing with Sarah, follow the daughter as she lectures us on teen pregnancy, view the young hockey player dude as he chases girls. Heck we even have a brother in law trooper dude with a violent temper. This show would have it all!!
