Group says Bristol Palin to promote teen pregnancy prevention

Last year, Gov. Palin revealed that her teen daughter, Bristol, was unmarried and pregnant just as the Republican National Convention was beginning.

Last year, Gov. Palin revealed that her teen daughter, Bristol, was unmarried and pregnant just as the Republican National Convention was beginning.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Bristol Palin, the daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, will participate in a town hall meeting on Wednesday to help raise awareness for teen pregnancy prevention, the Candie's Foundation announced Tuesday.

"I am so happy to have this opportunity to work with The Candie's Foundation on spreading the message of teen pregnancy prevention," Palin said in a statement released by the group. "I feel that I could be a living example of the consequences of teen pregnancy. If I can prevent even one girl from getting pregnant, I will feel a sense of accomplishment."

Palin, 18, gave birth to a son, Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston, in December.

The Candie's Foundation, whose mission it is to "educate teens about the devastating consequences of teenage pregnancy," tapped her to be the teen ambassador for its National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. The group said she will participate in a town hall meeting at the Times Center in New York City Wednesday with actress Hayden Panettiere, baseball player Matt Garza, and other panelists.

I was a OBGYN nurse and have seen many babies born as young as 13. This family has not morals and SP thinks that we still care. This woman is so narcisstic she can only see herself. She has stayed in the media since day one (and blames the media) and dragged her kids across the media, I have a feeling your mom may lose an election I can see with others the end of her career out my window.

When she does this town hall meeting I hope she talks about the use of birth control because abstinence don't work no matter who your parents are. She knew her actions would put her mother in a bad limelight but she did it anyway so birth control should be number one discussion that she has.
It's sad that Palin is making her do this just so she can fulfill her ambitions. This is the main reason why she probably got pregnant. Her mother lacked giving her the love she needs so she went to find it from someone else. He probably told her she would give her the world and that they would be together forever. Please talk birth control at this meeting.

I invite you to look at the article, Teens in Alaska Demand More Sex Education, posted here: . You can bet that Gov. Palin will be opposed to this proposal in Alaskan schools.

The irony of this subject is lost on the Palins. If Bristol were toeing the party line espoused by her mother, the baby would have been given up for adoption. Wouldn't that be a great opener to Bristol's speech? Imagine that she speaks about being a pregnant teen who selflessly gave the baby away for the benefit of both of them.

Unfortunately for myself and other disgruntled Alaskans, our governor will most likely be headed for re-election, as the Rabid Republicans are firmly entrenched here.

The reality is that while teenage pregnancy shoud be avoided, the simple fact of it is that a conservative teen mother is much much more likely to raise a child with sound morals and values, a productive member of our society, than middle aged liberal women.

One only has to compare the different areas of this nation to see this reality.

HAHAHAHAHA!! Another Palin, jumping out into the public spotlight, trying to make a name for herself.........all the while putting her family priority further and further down the list. Hypocritical....the only way to decribe them both....."practice what I preach, not what I do"

Its so funny that all the liberals here are screaming that Bristol did not take precautions, use a condem, and practice safe sex.

Robin it sounds like you and the "liberals" are screaming the same thing. Perhaps you have more in commom with "us" than you care to admit.

Hey I think this has been done before. I guess she wasn't listening to the sucessful teen moms before her. The Palin's need to find another topic to shape their political future on. How do you justify this behavior there are enough high school dropout teen parents already to stage a platform on prevention. To make it a abortion rights issue is just as wrong. It time for a change. It is time to hold parents responsible for their lack of parenting. The Palin should be trying to guide their daughter towards compeleting her educations, helping her set some short term and long term goals for her son and herself, aiding her in gaining independence. At this rate she will either have another child soon or leave this one for them to raise. Get the girl out to the public life. The need to find a hard working, hard studying sucessul teen to put forth as a positive role model. Then maybe the teens will see what sucess really looks like. People like the Palins have set the standards. So everything else has walk through the door under the fence and in the back yard. Time to clean the garages for sure.

Let's hope the pro-lifers are now going to fight for funding to support prenatal care, WIC, postnatal care, day care, etc etc. As soon as Bristol Palin and her mom start advocating for these things, then I'll support her speaking out about the consequences of teen pregnancy. We need to teach people to be responsible with their bodies from early childhood on. This must include frank, honest education about sexuality and how to protect yourself against pregnancy (birth control, abstinence) STDs, etc. We need to give teens the tools to make appropriate choices. We still haven't figured this out. It's amazing that European countries figured this out and have much lower teen pregnancy and abortion rates.

Wow – no matter what she does or what the Palins' do they are critizied. I am glad that everyone on this site has such perfect families and lives. Give the family a break. At least she is not abandoning the baby like so many others do in this country.

This is something she should do when she's older and more mature. You don't just have a baby as a teenager and then pretend (while you're still a teenager) that you know everything about preventing teen pregnancy. It would make more sense at age 25 or 30.

Well Robin, aren't you forgetting that conservatives preach against sex education in schools, as they believe only in abstinence only education. Maybe if we educated young people regarding condom usage, maybe we could decrease the number of unplanned pregnancies, which would therefore, decrease the number of abortions performed in this country.

I hope they are paying her to do this, because obviously any single parent should really be WORKING to take care of his/her offspring, and not parading around the country saying ... yes I had sex got a baby but you shouldn't... or maybe you should but you aren't important enough to get a gig like mine, so your life would probably suck as a teenage parent.

I'd really be uninterested in hearing [or having my teenage daughter] listen to anything anyone who would deprive her child's father of time alone with him. Get off the stage!

I'd rather hear from Solange Knowles or Jamie Lynn Spears, those ladies at least have JOBS that allow for them to take care of their kids.

Where's the gong with we really need it.

Whatever happened to the June wedding? Guess Levi went along with the pretense as long as he could--he didn't want to play house with Bristol after all.

Oh my goodness, the best thing for Bristol Palin to do, is to learn from her mistakes, raise her son, get an education and move on with her life! We have an epidemic of teen-pregnancies, because there is such dysfunction in the family.

Kids will seek what they are missing in their lives, love, etc., by having sex and thinking that a baby will provide the love they are missing.

A teen girl who is pregnant is clearly missing love, intimacy & support in her family unit. I am old enough to have seen this over and over and over again.

A young woman who has goals, is confident, feels loved and treasured by her family, will not become pregnant, she will care enough for herself to prevent pregnancy and get an education.

@Only 21% of Americans trust republicans to lead them into the 21st century!

It is sad to see people like you who are so bitter and angry even though your party has won both congress and the white house. Aren't you ever happy with anything? Probably not. Liberals usually are not happy, and you prove it every time you type on here. I feel sorry for you. You are probably one of those "poor, woe is me" Democrats that tend to blame all of your life circumstances on everyone else but yourself.

Bristol Palin is not doing this by choice. Look at the fact her mother is pushing this young team mom to focus on some like that so it would not let Mrs. Palin feel bad. Bristol you need to make up your own mind what you want to do in life. Tell your mom stop making it a campaign thing.
