First lady hangs out with Elmo

(CNN) – What's the highlight of Mrs. Obama's time in the White House? Hanging out with Elmo, of course.

The first lady stopped by Sesame Street Tuesday, chatting with the furry red monster and making a public service announcement along the way.

"If you want your child to have healthy habits, practice healthy habits too because you're your child's best role model," Michelle Obama advocated in her appearance for Sesame Workshop's Healthy Habits for Life Initiative.

The First Lady told employees at the United Nations in New York Tuesday that it's probably the best thing she's done so far since she and her husband moved into the executive mansion. Mrs. Obama appears to be emerging as a champion of healthy exercise and eating habits, taking up her platform by planting an organic kitchen garden on the White House grounds.

Former first ladies Barbara and Laura Bush also dropped by Sesame Street set during their husbands' terms in office, advocating children's literacy by reading kids' books to Big Bird.

I don't hate Michelle Obama – or Barack Obama for that matter, I just hate his policies. I think it's a good thing for the first lady to make these appearances to promote things we can all agree on.

What I dislike most is the slobbering by the Obamaphiles (which includes this website) over their every action. It's really embarrassing.

Oh, RNC-DNC, lighten up! We all know that Barbara and Laura Bush also dropped by Sesame Street – they were both champions of literacy, which is wonderful, and they were both given hugs and kisses by the gracious Elmo.

Anyway, I love Elmo! And I love our First Lady – she is a great role model in so many ways!!!

The fact that the right wing trolls are reduced to criticizing Muppets is indicative of just how completely useless they are.

Excellent job, conservative commenters. You're definitely well on your way to proving that GOPers are not at all full of hate and bitterness when you lash out at the First Lady for talking to kids about good eating habits. How dare she!!

Also, I believe the pity-party for your National Day of Prayer is on another article, whiners.

Givemeabreak writes: "I just hope she said a little prayer on her way there since it is National Day of Prayer–oh that's right her and her husband don't recognize it-Wow seal your fate"

You need to go back to Sunday school and review the part about Christ's teachings of forgiveness, tolerance, love, inclusion and compassion.

President Obama signed a declaration recognizing the National Day of Prayer – he just didn't host a breakfast. Big deal! If that's all it takes to weaken your faith, you didn't have much of one to begin with.

Everyone should realize there are only a couple of thousand rapid hard core conservatives and liberals that account for all the hatred spewed on this site and everywhere else. Most of us never said anything negative about Laura Bush ever. So, when I hear about how liberals bashed the Bushes for eight years you aren't talking about me. But I do take offense and makes me feel very negative. This causes me to associate negative feelings (unfairly) with conservative views in general.

LMAO This is so funny simply because the First Lady could care less what all you haters have to say about her, LOL!!!!

This is so funny. No mention of the millions of kids who never got the chance to watch Sesame Street b/c of abortions (which the Obamas support). I think she is a horrible role model for her girls–hopefully they won't grow up thinking abortion is a good "choice".
The hypocrisy in these comments are also pretty funny-you libs put down anything Conservative, but then get all offended when the shoe is on the other foot. Man up!

People are upset that the administration doesnt pray? I think it is a relief to see a little bit of separation of church and state!

Kudos to you Mrs. Obama, working along with you husband to do that wonderful things you have both already done for this country!

Yeow!! The ugliness of the Hyper-Republicans is comming through today! "Everyone is picking on us!" Mrs. Bush was always praised from what I read, and I think she was a terrific First Lady. I mean, look what she had to work with! If the Ultra-Fanatical Right-Wing Extremests came out of their cold, dark crawl spaces every once in a while, they would realize that "W" and the rest of his crew, pretty much deserved what they got. He said "Bring it on!", so they did!

Wonder if she had on those $540.00 sneakers she had on when she served food at the homeless shelter.

Gosh, I only wish I could afford $540.00 sneakers when I did my volunteer work at animal shelters.

Ok come on people !!!! The lady went on Sesame St. She is not talking politics on the show, just how to be healthy. How does anyone who is not screwed up in the head, justify criticizing this? And using it as an opportunity to bash her and the President? This is a public service she is doing, not a DNC convention speech or anything of the sort. No wonder Republicans are losing ground. Criticizing anything and everything is a big turn off for moderates like myself. And the liberals who are gushing all over the First Lady and using it as an opportunity to bash Laura Bush and prior First Ladies, you are also a turn off. If you have a problem with an administration's policies, fine, but dont attack the wives. Unless you really believe the wives were/ are the ones calling the shots in the cabinet meetings. Ridiculous huh? Stop it already guys !!! Michelle did a good thing and is sending a good message to parents. Those who want to hate will hate no matter what she does but I think its sad when political differences are used as an excuse for ingrown hatred.

I agree 100 percent with Michelle about parents being great role
    models for their children.

To all you individuals stating that people were mean to Laura Bush – where did you gather that data – if I remember she was rated higher than George and was well liked and respected by more than 80 percent of the people.

Did she wear her $540.00 tennis shoes that she wore when she was feeding the hungry???? What an insult to the poor people that she was feeding? Leading by example means more than just talk–you need to walk the talk.

Perhaps she did. Do you think that Laura Bush fed the poor on her $485,000 dinner plates? If you can't walk the talk, perhaps you should just shut it!

Oh, what a beautiful person Mrs. Obama is and what a wonderful role model she is for all Americans by the outfits she wears, and that she can finally say she is now proud of her country for the first time in her life. We are so blessed to have the blessed Obamas in the White House. May God bless and keep them and care for them as they bless us each and every blessed day now that they are in the blessed White House and have taken charge of every blessed facet of our blessed lives.

I don't have a "love affair" with the First Lady but I'm not looking for reasons to criticize her either. She has a wonderful education, working and taking out loans to obtain. She is a strong advocate for education, especially for young girls who still aren't sure it will open doors for them – It WILL!

She has a healthy lifestyle and a Christian attitude toward community service. Volunteering is not just for show. She did it long before the lights and cameras.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but she takes care of herself. Her fashion sense is simple and stylish.

So, why all the sniping? Laura Bush was lovely and I'm so glad she broke away from the dowdy "Barbara" dresses after the first year. She was far too young to dress so old and look how lovely she was. Also, a powerful advocate for education.

So stop the sniping and do something constructive.

Gag, gag, gag. Why must an Obama always be in the news? We should all be fortunate enough to have Granny living with us in our grand (well, the taxpayer's) house and mutiple "employees" around to drive us, and feed us, and clean for us, and drop off and pickup the kids from school, etc., etc. Not exactly your everyday American family now is it?

How nasty can you be???? Are you jealous that she has better shoes than you, or what IS your problem??!!! Mrs. Obama did not come from a wealthy back-ground and she has worked very hard all of her life to achieve what she's achieved, so I think she earned whatever shoes she chooses to wear!
