Liz Cheney suggests Obama 'siding with terrorists'

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Liz Cheney joined her parents on a trip to the Middle East in March 2008."]
(CNN) - Liz Cheney is picking up where her father left off when it comes to taking aim at the Obama administration, saying Tuesday the new commander-in-chief appears to be siding with terrorists.

In an interview on Fox News, the daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney sharply criticized the new administration for agreeing to release photographs depicting alleged abuses at U.S. prisons in Iraq and Afghanistan during the Bush administration.

"I think it is really appalling that the administration is taking this step," she said in the interview. "Clearly what they are doing is releasing images that show American military men and woman in a very negative light."

"I have heard from families of service members from families of 9/11 victims this question about when did it become so fashionable for us to side, really, with the terrorists," she continued. "You know, President Obama has a lot of rhetoric about support for American military families, support for our men and women who are fighting for us overseas. But if he really cares about them, then he wouldn't be making such an effort to release photos that show them in a negative light."

Late last month, Pentagon officials said the hundreds of photographs released are from more than 60 criminal investigations from 2001 to 2006, and show military personnel allegedly abusing detainees. But the officials rejected allegations by the American Civil Liberties Union that the photos show a systemic pattern of abuse by the military.

In her interview Monday, Cheney also echoed recent calls from her father for the Obama administration to release classified documents detailing information yielded from the aggressive interrogation techniques since denounced by the president.

"They seem only to be interested in releasing things that really paint American in a negative light and don't give the American people a full picture of what went on," she said.

  1. John W CNN spending so much time and effort to make sure we know what Cheney, his family and his co-cospirators have to say???? Is it just to fill up the 24 hour news cycle with controversy and he said/she said???

Everything Dick and his like-minded cohorts have to say has been totally discredited. He has been wrong about every issue!!

CNN >>> Leave it alone until the war crimes trials begin.

To Liz Cheney and her draft dodging father two words SHUT UP. Obama is pulling back the veil on Republican hypocracy. You and Daddy, like the vampires you are can't stand the light. Your father is a domestic terrorist, how about that, he's hoping for another attack just so he can justify inhuman acts against others, none of these people at Gitmo have been tried and sentenced in the 6 years they've been captives. Since you see nothing wrong with it how about we send anyone named Cheney who gets on tv again off to siberia for the next 6 years without charges and see how you fare. Enjoy your Halliburton trust fund and SHUT UP.

Uh, you know, leaving behind 5 trillion dollars for taxpayers to pay, is siding with the terrorists.

Great day! These two related mouth pieces need to go quietly into the night. Dick and daughter Liz are upset because Dick's TRUE legacy is being revealed right along with the puppet he controlled, George W. Bush!!! Of course they have plenty to say now, their REAL image is being revealed.

Just like her father: didn't have anything useful to say when they were supposed to speaking, and now, you can't shut them up. Who cares about what she or her father has to say??? Let's talk about Cheney's conflict of interest with Haliburton, and how he's not in court for that!

The Cheney family has an odd take on world events, civil liberties, and the freedom of information act. Time and again they have voiced their contempt for for the wishes of the general population of this nation with attacks on the current administration, the media, and historic friends of the US. During the time Ms Cheney's father was working to keep the US safe from freedom if anyone voiced opposition to the Bush/Cheney regime's machinations they were branded "traitor", "militant", and several other choice terms.

I support Ms Cheney's right to free speach but I find her platform an arguments laughable.

The fact that Cheney knows what is in the unreleased torture memos, proves that he was directly involved in monitoring the program. Why has he not been arrested yet?

It is okay for Liz and her pappy to say Obama is siding with terrorist, but it is not okay for Wanda Sykes to say what she said about Rush Limbaug? This is hypocrisy at its best. If she is suggesting POTUS is siding with terrorist, she is saying he is committing treason. I am sick of the Cheney's and I applaud Wanda Sykes for what she said!

Right, so the President should refuse to abide by a court's ruling ordering the release of the photographs? I guess the rule of law doesn't apply in the Cheney world.

Yes, much better to cover up this stuff, sweep it under the carpet and pretend it didn't happen, and won't again.

Moderate Democrat- you need to re-read the article. The comments were made by Cheney's daughter, not his wife.

Some one should tell her that if the full picture of what went on was releases that they would have to immediately arrest her father. There is no doubt good info came from these interrogations, however you have to wonder how much it changed our strategy in Iraq. After all, we ended up putting the local Iraq militia groups on the payroll for peace.

I love how they keep calling for Obama to release the documents showing what we obtained from the torture. Isn't that the same as saying "THE END JUSTIFIES THE MEANS"???

Really Liz, it's appalling? You mean compared to your father lying us into a war that we didn't need to fight, where thousands of soldiers died and were wounded? Telling the truth is appalling? Wow!

I'd have to agree with Obama. I'd rather have him release the pictures than try to cover them up. I believe it is something that we, as a nation, should acknowledge, and try to move forward. No, we're not proud of how we acted, but I think it'd be more shameful to try and hide them. It's called healing and moving forward.

She is terrible just like her horrible father. I think the repubs think maybe putting her out there will get traction BUT...IT WON'T. The defense of Cheney is dispicable and his daughter is now dispicable. I actually hope they keep talking, that will ensure a re-election of Obama!

As a resident of NYC on 9/11... I'd like to ask Ms. Cheney to stop talking. Or at least speak on issues she actually knows something about.

And what about the reason behind the photographs? How can we [i.e. Bush administration] say that we are fighting against terror and let torture happen? Maybe if the Bush-Cheney team didn't torture, there would be no dirty laundry for President Obama to air out. This is just another example of how out-of-touch the current leadership of the Republican party is. Liz Cheney standing up for her father and for torture. Republicans, the party of torture! Obama should release every single document the CIA and gov't currently has classified regarding torture and/or any legal justification the Bush-Cheney team forced the Justice Dept to come up with – afterall, isn't the Justice Dept, i.e. justice system, supposed to be non-political? This is the crudest and more blatant example of Bush-Cheney power-grab. I'm happy the American people get to see what their government was doing the past eight years in the name of "liberty, freedom and democracy." Democracies don't torture, autocracies and dictatorships do. Which side are you on?
