Virginia GOP chair: Obama bows to dictators

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/04/20/art.getty.obama.yellow.jpg caption="The new chairman of the Virginia GOP said Obama 'bows to dictators that would like to destroy this country.'"]WASHINGTON (CNN) - The new chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia is sounding a little bit like the old one.

Pat Mullins was elected to lead the party earlier this month by the state GOP central committee after the former chairman, Jeff Frederick, was ousted after a series of embarrassing missteps. Frederick garnered national attention during last year's presidential race for drawing a comparison between Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden.

Mullins, the new party head, said something similar while speaking to the Virginia Beach city committee meeting on Monday. An audio recording of the event was provided to CNN by a Democratic party operative.

"I'm particularly excited I'm not a Democrat," Mullins told the audience. "Since I'm not a Democrat, I don't have to defend a president who goes overseas and bows to dictators that would like to destroy this country. I'm delighted I don't have to defend him."

Mullins was referring to video shot during April's G-20 Summit in London that showed Obama lowering his head while greeting King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia. The White House said that Obama was not bowing, and that he shook hands with the King, who is shorter than Obama.

Fulfilling his role as the state's Republican partisan-in-chief, Mullins also disparaged Democratic National Committee chairman and Virginia governor Tim Kaine as "a part-time governor who's making a full-time salary." He called Virginia Sen. Jim Webb, who earned a Navy Cross and two purple hearts in Vietnam, an "embarrassment to everybody in this commonwealth."

A spokesman for the state Democratic Party said Mullins "ought to apologize to Virginians for personal attacks on the commander-in-chief and a decorated war hero."

The Republican Party of Virginia did not return phone calls seeking comment.

Yeah, he forgot to hold hands with the Saudi king like Dubya did. What a terrible breach of protocol! Ho hum. Republicans are so 20th Century.

This is why Democrats have won the last two Govenors elections and the last two Senatorial elections in Virginia. Enough said.

Comments like this reinforces why the GOP is out of touch here in the Commonwealth, especially in my beloved Northern Virginia. Does Mr. Mullins defend a President that went overseas to beg the Saudis to boost oil production as George W. Bush did? I am especially proud not to be a Republican and have to bow at the feet of right wing radicals such as Rush Limbaugh. How about them apples?

Mullins like all the other Republicans have no clue what "respect" is and follow the old shoot first and make friends later attitude twards leaders of other countries.

We finally have a leader that understands that you can't deal with other nations & their leaders by being pompas and stuck-up to them. Showing "respect" and a willingness to talk is the only way to be grown up and civil. Obama is showing the world how we "should act" and is being the "adult" where the Republicans have been children.

He didn't bow to the King, just like he didn't joke around and laugh with Chavez. He just thought of a joke he'd heard hours before and it made him laugh, right when Chavez was laughing.

This WH press secretary should quit his job and become a comedian.

Is this man not aware of the deep personal, political and business ties between the Saudi royal family and the Bush family?

I'm particularly glad that you don't have to defend President Obama also (especially since he doesn't need defending), because hopefully this will leave you with enough time to assist in the resucitation of your almost defunct GnOP.

He didn't just "lower his head." He dropped the entire top half of his body to King Abdullah's waist.

This is why the GOP Party will never recover from their disappointment. Because of representatives like this person.

t he republicans will continue to look and act like idiots as long as they maintain their horse and buggy thinking, in this engine driven environment, to criticize suggested solutions to our modern day problems.

I also am particularly excited that you are not a Democrat. We are not a party filled with hate and fear and have no room for the likes of you.
I am particularly excited that the USA now has a President who we can be proud of. I am delighted I CAN defend him honestly.
We do not have to defend OUR President for bankrupting our country, war crimes, illegal acts and violations of our rights and liberties.

God would the GOP for one moment shut up and take a look at themselves and the things they say, I would not even expect this garbage from a five year old, do you GOP think that the american people are stupid like you to listen to this garbage, you don't even have dignity or self respect, otherwise I would tell you, you ought to be ashamed of yourself for spreading this garbage.

The virginia GOP Chair also wears a white hood and burns crosses on weekends. It's not surprising he doesn't like our black president.

    Sincerely,
A white guy that does like our Black President, as long as it's not a republican that likes to torture people and spend all our money on illegal wars, refuses to catch Osama Bin Laden (talk about siding with terrorist, Bush and Cheney wouldn't go catch Bin Laden....it's a fact, they planned it WITH him) and forces our economy and education into the toilet.
