PEOPLE: Bristol Palin graduates high school

Bristol Palin has graduated from high school.

Bristol Palin has graduated from high school.

Looking like a lot of her classmates – giddy and irreverent, wearing a silly necklace of Blow-Pop lollipops strung together with curly gift ribbon – Bristol Palin stepped toward the stage in Wasilla Sports Complex Thursday night to receive her high school diploma, more a worried mom than a jubilant teen.

"Where's my baby?" Bristol mouthed, searching the two front rows where her family sat until she finally spotted son Tripp near the backstage door, where Bristol's Aunt Heather was feeding the infant a bottle. With a wave to the little one she alternately calls "Handsome" and "My Guy," Bristol crossed the stage – and crossed "graduate high school" off her to-do list.

"I knew it would be hard work, but I knew I was going to do it," Bristol, 19, tells PEOPLE.

Straight haired white girls get to be called the same thing as nappy haired blacks girls who diddle outside of marriage. The difference is Palin gets to parade around on talk shows flaunting her indiscretion as if her sin didn't matter. All this and Moms let the boyfriend do a sleepover. Interesting.

I wish her luck and hope that she's not too influenced by her mother.

Bristol Palin is now facing something far more difficult than finishing high school.

    Growing Up!

She is still a mama's girl at age 19.

Bristol and all her siblings will always be under the total control of their Mommy Dearest.

Given the lack of media critiques of the Obama administration, this what we are left discussing...

God bless you, Bristol. There couldn't have been ANYTHING easy about finishing your senior year not only being pregnant, not only having the father leave, but having your family suddenly cast into the national spotlight and horribly scrutinized and misrepresented. Keep staying strong.

(By the way, I voted for and support Obama. Compassion has no party lines.)

Confused, first she miss a lot of school while the other children in her class attended and now it's reported all of a sudden that she's walking across stage. Tell that lie somewhere else! You couldn't make this crap up with the Palins fairy tail lives.

I'm glad CNN thinks this is news.
Otherwise we'd have stories up here about things that matter.
    We can't have that....

A great accomplishment....wherever Bristol goes in life, she'll always have family. She made it through high school, she can make it through college.

Oh psh. Regardless of the decisions this young lady is going to have to make now or in the future, she's a high school graduate.

Congrats, Bristol, on your achievements. May you have happiness and good fortune in your future, and please don't let anyone sway you from whatever you decide to do. Unfortunately, the media will be all over that, but there are some folks that don't judge so harshly.

(And no, I'm not a Palin sympathizer. Life is hard enough to handle without that kind of scrutiny. Let this young lady enjoy her milestone, for chrissakes.)

Congrats to Bristol for graduating high school. But come to think of it she is not really experiencing what other teenage moms have to go through since her mother is the governor of a state.

Good for her! I'm sure the liberals will have something hateful to say.

This is not about liberals. It is about fair nears. Black teens do this everyday and I don't see no special treatment.

Why are we hearing about an unwed mother graduating high school? She is among the other 40% of unwed mothers in the USA. That isn't anything to brag about. These are babies having babies. Very dumb!! So what if she graduates high school. Nobody cares. I think we are only hearing about this because her mother, who was also pregnant before arriage, wants to stay in the news. That woman is never going to be President of the USA. She might just as well stop trying!!

I know its crazy, but finishing High School was easier for me than say not getting pregnant. But I have lived a far different life, and did not have to deal with Russia in my yard. PHEW! Thank heaven for small favors.
