Limbaugh blasts Powell attack

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Rush Limbaugh criticized Colin Powell as being part of the 'stale, the old, the worn-out GOP.'"](CNN) – Colin Powell and Rush Limbaugh escalated their war of words on Wednesday, with the talk radio host calling the former Secretary of State part of the "stale, the old, the worn-out GOP that never won anything."

The comments came hours after Powell fired back at Limbaugh and former Vice President Dick Cheney over recent remarks questioning his GOP credentials.

"Rush Limbaugh says, 'get out of the Republican Party.' Dick Cheney says, 'he's already out,'" Powell said at a Tuesday night event in Boston, according to the Boston Globe. "I may be out of their version of the Republican Party, but there's another version of the Republican Party waiting to emerge once again."

Powell drew ire from many in the GOP for his decision to endorse President Obama's candidacy, and said earlier this month that the party would be better off without Limbaugh.

On his show Wednesday, Limbaugh mocked Powell's comments. "And now there's an agenda, an emerging agenda, that he's waiting for for the Republican Party?" said the radio host. "The only thing emerging here is Colin Powell's ego. Colin Powell represents the stale, the old, the worn-out GOP that never won anything."

Limbaugh, who has been called the de facto leader of the Republican Party by leading Democrats, also said that he is resigning from the position.

"I am resigning as the titular head of the Republican Party," Limbaugh said. "Clearly I am not the titular head of the Republican Party, it's not an office I sought, it was an office position that rather was ladled onto me, and one I was appointed without by acquiescence."

Did Limbaugh have a response to Sykes' comments yet? I haven't heard anything about it if he did.

Rush Limbaugh and the true Republicans are true Americans, I can not say that for those in the Democratic Party, they are just hateful individuals who can not debate the issues and have to make personal attacks on innocent people. Obama is a friend to the Republicans just as Carter was.

Rush just keeps attacking the people that most would associate with and vote for. What a moronic lardass.

I love how Democrats rally around Colin Powell, the single biggest reason we got into the Iraq war. It was his lying sack of you-know-what speech at the UN that got MILLIONS of us to suspend our doubts and support the war. AND it was his little friend Richard Armitage who outed Valerie Plame, and Powell knew about it from day one but let Karl Rove take the heat.

Powell is a just an accommodator to power – he knows exactly what to kiss, whose to kiss and when to kiss it.

There are two republican parties in my eyes. The right wing Religious Republican Party, and the more moderate respectable party of which Senator Spector and Senator Snowe belong. The first is just some kind of psychotic faction of the party that is hellbent on destroying this country through racism, hatred, bigotry and divisiveness. America is watching and listening and will never be fooled again by these fools.

Why is Colin Powell even deigning to recognize Limbaugh? They are not remotely in the same league.

Mr. Powell, don't dignify Limbaugh with a response. He is a no-body and you are success in multiple fields.

Who really cares what Limbaugh thinks? He is an entertainer and not a very good one at that.

the repubs are hilarious with their continuous bickering. Thats ALL their good at!

The dont actually SOLVE any problems. They dont actually DO anything except weaken the fabric of this country. Weaken the constitution, sell away the publics rights to the highest bidding corporation. And when everything crumbles they just point their grimy, crooked little fingers at everyone else. Their simply pathetic!

They run around like dumb chickens squawking the logical left are socialists, and I guess from an extreme fascist point of view we are.

Finally the Republican party moderates have a Luke Skywalker figure to battle Emperor Limbaugh, Darth Vader, and their gun waving base of redneck stormtroopers. I wish Colin Powell the best of luck in bringing sanity and realism to the Republican party

Rush Limfool please come to Canada, we have free DRUGS (not medication) to help clam you down.

This is the same General Powell who protected and defended the USA all his live. Don't forget that it was again General Powell who helped president Reagan defeat the Russians and what do you think Reagan will say to Rush if he was alive?

I'm becoming more convinced that RL is provoking SOLELY to raise his ratings. Simple response. Pay no attention to the blowhard behind the curtain. Better yet, write his sponsors and tell them you won't buy their products/services. He's all about the ratings. (Certainly not the Republican party, and NO WAY the average (centrist) American!)

Limbaugh represents the party of family values with his three divorces (they all left him) and drug addiction.

I find it truly amazing that Rush is considered the "New" GOP while General Colin Powell is considered "old and stale". Also I find it utterly laughable that a man who goes to a convention as a guest speaker and starts chanting his own name along with everyone else makes any comments about a decorated war hero's ego. One man has dedicated his entire career to his country, the other to his ever expanding waist line. I will take General Powell and his service to this country over Rush and his golden microphone anyday.

I never understood why people believe they count for something by belonging to some political party. Here's a clue, be an American and believe that you are suppose to contribute to the next generation being better than your generation.

I love loony libs because they make me laugh every day with their mental disorders! They cry endlessly about how anyone who disagrees with them is "dispicable" and then makes thoughtful and reasoned arguments like "Kevin Denver Colorado". Only libs talk that way – they are oh so caring and tolerant!
