RNC showdown over 'socialist' resolution may be avoided
[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/03/18/art.getty.steele.rnc.jpg caption="Steele is against a resolution renaming the Democratic Party.'"]OXON HILL, Maryland (CNN) - Members of the Republican National Committee appear to have reached a compromise that would let GOP leaders avoid a possible dispute over a controversial resolution that calls on Democrats to re-name their party the "Democrat Socialist party."
Steele has come out against the resolution, calling it "not an appropriate way to express our views on the issues of the day." One of Steele's allies on the committee, Florida GOP chairman Jim Greer, told CNN the resolution is "stupid" and "ridiculous."
However, New Jersey committeeman David Norcross, one of the sponsors of the resolution, told CNN the language is being massaged so that Steele and others on the committee will be more receptive.
"The language is being changed so that the proposers and chairman Steele are on the same page," Norcross said.
He said that as of Tuesday afternoon, the chairman of the RNC Standing Committee on Resolutions had changed the language to "condemn the Democrats' march to socialism" instead of "talking about the 'Democrat Socialist' party."
The change was made, Norcross said, so that members "wouldn't have to fight about it, and I think everybody agreed."
Wisconsin GOP chairman Reince Priebus, another Steele ally, expressed confidence the proposal will be tweaked in the resolution committee, and that it should pass without issue.
"My prediction is that things are going to be very smooth tomorrow," Priebus said. "But at the end of the day, it's up the resolutions committee."

So instead of offering alternative ideas, they choose to obstruct those offering them. Instead of helping the country get back on track, they choose to attack those working on it. And now instead of reflecting on the state of their party they choose to rename the other one? What are these people smoking?
America has been Socialist for a long time, ever since FDR!
Time for America to step up and own it. WE ARE SOCIALIST. We take the rich and redistribute the wealth to the poor. That is the definition of Socialism!

This is laughable. With all that is wrong with the country, this is the best these guys can come up with. My heart breaks because the country really needs a viable alternative to some of what is being proposed today. Unfortunately, a lot of the leadership in the Republican Party just doesn't get it. People want viable policy alternatives, not name calling.

How about we change the name of the Republican Party to the Bankrupt Party - as in their ideas and their thinking are bankrupt, void, nada, zilch. This is beyond riduculous, next after the name calling it will be nana, nana, booboo.
