House Republicans try to turn up the heat on Pelosi

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/05/21/art.pelosi.gi.jpg caption="Republicans say they will introduce a resolution calling for an investigation into Pelosi."](CNN) - A member of the House Republican Conference will offer a resolution on the House floor Thursday calling for a bipartisan investigation into House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's claim that the CIA misled her on the use of waterboarding, two Republican sources tell CNN.

"The speaker has had a full week now to either produce the evidence or retract and apologize, and she's done neither," a senior Republican aide told CNN. "There is no choice now. A bipartisan investigation is needed to get to the facts."

Earlier: Gingrich says time for Pelosi to resign

Since House Republicans don't have the votes, this resolution will likely be voted down by House Democrats. Once the resolution is offered, the House has two legislative days to take it up, and a vote could be pushed until after the Memorial Day break.

That's right Republicans. Try and turn your cheek. The fact of the matter is, or should I say the underlining cause still is TORTURE.

Nancy, why are you silent? Do you think if you now keep your mouth shut, this issue will go away? Not a chance, put up or go away permanently. Do the country a favor and resign, please.

I think that the republicans ought to realize that they are out numbered in this deal. May be if they can get Rush, Coulter, Ingram and Palin all to vote a couple of times it will pass for them.

Yawn. It's the torture, stupid. And oh lucky us, we get to hear a speach from one of the torture ringleaders himself tonight. Anyone got a spare shoe?

Pelosi is a BAD APPLE , and always has been. If anyone ever needed investigating, it would be her.

An obvious attempt by the 'publicans to get some control over an investigation which will conclude that Pelosi lied, then proceed to delve into just how treasonously out of control Cheney, Rove and little Bush were. They'll all end up in jail, even Powell and Petraeus. Kick them off the committee and proceed!

I think it's time for her to tell us the truth....did she know? There is an old saying...'the truth will set you free'. Most people realize you sit in one of the most powerful seats in America..yet strangely you can only use that power with permission...that 's not it's intent, but it's the reality.
So come on P and tell the truth....it's wrong to ruin the creditbility of the CIA.

Even though it will be voted down, this is great!! Make the woman prove her strong lies and allegations. She can't go spouting off and foaming at the mouth with her lies and not expect anyone to call her on it. Are we just supposed to believe her?? Maybe she'll learn what Karma is.

The Republicans are in no way accountable for themselves so what's to make them think that going after Pelosi is going to prove anything?... oh wait... that's right.. they have nothing better to do or say so instead, just attack people. nice.

What nonsense! Whether Pelosi was right, wrong or just confused, there could not be a more trivial issue around than exactly when she knew the CIA was using torture.

This is yet another Republican distraction from public recognition that Democratic economic plans are working and getting the economy rolling along again.

Leave it to the dems to brush their corruption under the rug and pretend that it never happened. Their protection of Pelosi speaks volumes. It lets the world know that they are in charge and by God they can skip over any corruption perpetrated by one of their own. Wasn't it Pelosi that said it's time to clean the corruption out of the House when she took over as speaker? LOL!! She should start with herself.

I respect the CIA, but I think they need to produce evidence as well. Otherwise, it will only continue to be her word against theirs. In my opinion, unless the member of the committe were angels who dropped from Heaven, they are subject to lie just as quickly as the GOP is trying to accuse Pelosi. Actually, they might have had more reason to mislead than Pelosi has to lie.

Republicans are just grabbing on to anything to remain noticable.

When Pelosi claimed ignorance many Americans were inclined to believe her.

    Investigate Pelosi.
    Make the hearings public.
    Put her under oath.
Then impeach her for perjury and send her to prison.

That can all be done by Thanksgiving.

This should not be voted down. Americans need the truth. Who is lying? The CIA or the Speaker of the House? Enough already. There should be an investigation and leave the partisan politics out of it. America is tired of all of the hate on both sides.

There needs to be a grass-root effort for term limits.

I hope Pelosi doesn't fall for the Republican crap. I don't like her either, but giving in to the idiots will only make things worse, not better.

I don't even like Pelosi, but I hope this leads to an investigation which backfires on those complicit in lying to lead us into an economy-crippling, life-destroying, alliance-weakening, Iraq-destabilizing war. If all the facts were to truly come out, we would likely see dozens of politicians, mostly from the Neocon faction, with their necks stretched for treason.

Republicans seem to forget that Boehner even said he felt the CIA lied with regard to NIE on Iran's nuclear capability. Should he resign too?
