House Republicans try to turn up the heat on Pelosi

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Republicans say they will introduce a resolution calling for an investigation into Pelosi."](CNN) - A member of the House Republican Conference will offer a resolution on the House floor Thursday calling for a bipartisan investigation into House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's claim that the CIA misled her on the use of waterboarding, two Republican sources tell CNN.

"The speaker has had a full week now to either produce the evidence or retract and apologize, and she's done neither," a senior Republican aide told CNN. "There is no choice now. A bipartisan investigation is needed to get to the facts."

Earlier: Gingrich says time for Pelosi to resign

Since House Republicans don't have the votes, this resolution will likely be voted down by House Democrats. Once the resolution is offered, the House has two legislative days to take it up, and a vote could be pushed until after the Memorial Day break.

funny how the Republicans are taking everybodys eye off the ball. once again! and the media just doesn't hit back with the truth. spineless cowards.

The big story here is why were the tortures happening and who let them happen. That's the the big story. the Big criminal story.

    Not Pelosi.

Now there's some good thinking: infuriate the Democrats into investgations and hearings on torture by Cheney and the rest by howling for investigations into Pelosi.

Good shoot-yourself-in-the-foot strategy on this one.

The GOP are getting really desperate. they are making a bigger deal out of someone that might have known about it (pelosi) versus the criminals (bush, cheney, rice) that actually committed these horrible crimes.

How about we worry about something important, like the silly notion that we can't safely house some of these prisoners here. We already have over 400 terriorist locked up in american prisons. I'm sure other countries will be happy to take some these scum when we tell them we won't take them on our soil.

    Democats, get a backbone!!!

So according to the repubs the CIA is 100% correct 100% of the time. Come on these are people just like you and me they make mistakes! It's not inconceivable that the CIA mis-represented or didn't tell congress all the facts. I'm more concerned about WHO authorized the use of these so called "harsh interrogation techniques"!

If I were a Republican, I would just keep quiet and give her enough rope to hang herself. She's pretty tangled up right now.

If I were a Democrat I would have already canned her, as she is costing points and credibility to the rest of the party.

As neither, I see her for the joke she is and look forward to her getting replaced very soon.

The Bush administration is culpable for using torture to interrogate prisoners. They developed a record of lying to the American people as well as Congress. The Republican attacks on Nancy Pelosi are a diversion from focusing the responsibility for the torture where it belongs – the Bush administration.

It's so sad – the GOP literally has no new ideas, so they are staging a big distraction. The GOP has turned congress into a bad reality show. 😛

So long as we also have a bipartisan investigation into whether or not the CIA broke federal and international laws by torturing political prisoners, go right ahead.

Republicans will do anything and everything to distract the public from the real elephant in the room: Bush/Cheney ordered the torture of detainees, going against everything our country stands for.

The only reason I can think of that would cause Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove and Norquist to come up with the idea of torture (when everyone knows it's not effective):

They are all Chicken Hawks. So quick to wage war, never having served a day themselves.

Good, keep her feet to the fire! Queen Pelosi MUST tell the truth or her credibility will be gone. She is just another eliteist who thinks she is better, and her word is the truth. Maybe it's time she go.
