[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/05/21/art.bigben.gi.jpg caption="Chicago businessman Louis Susman will be named ambassador to the Court of St. James's."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Obama intends to nominate Chicago businessman Louis Susman to be the country's next U.S. ambassador to the Court of St. James's, according to sources familiar with the nomination.

Susman is 71 and retired in February as the vice chairman of Citigroup. Susman was a prominent fundraiser and "bundler" from Obama's presidential campaign and was also a key fundraiser for Sen. John Kerry's presidential bid.

The pick has been approved by the British government and Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

All presidents appoint their buddies and supporters to cushy well paid positions. If he's qualified then I guess I don't mind. I think the surprise for his supporters is just that President Obama is just anoter politician. They have the messiah complex, Barrak doesn't. Lets move on to more important issues.

Lol, the Obamaniacs will rationalize this one as well. If it were Bush or Hillary doing the same thing they'd turn this message board into flames denouncing the chronism.

Why not. It's not like he is going to be doing anything. It's Obama's appointments to his Cabinet and the Supreme Court we need to worry about.

Republicans are crying nepotism. And I love the liberal response: Republicans are stupid. They can't even defend the appointment! They have to resort to name-calling when republicans present a valid issue with a valid argument. Pathetic!

Wow, a president appointing a supporter to a cushy ambassador post – not change, but far from anything new. I can't remember a single president in modern times that didn't do this. If you voted for any person that was elected president in your lifetime, then your guy has done this – any umbrage taken here is purely hypocritical.

How about appointing a serious diplomat for once? This guy wont do any real work, itll be left to his number 2 while he goes for walks around Regents Park.

I cannot believe how so many people will defend and never question anything Obama does. Why are Americans so stupid. I voted for Obama but will acknowledge the many unfavorable decisions such as this one. Obama has proven that most all politicians are corrupt and he is one of them. But that is okay, because look at all the Americans who will defend corrupt politicians because they are retarded.

The Republicans are nuts. They equate an appointment of an ambassador to the corruption of no bid contracts to Halliburton. You have to be kidding, right?

    May 21, 2009 07:41 pm at 7:41 pm |
  24. Libertarian

Honestly....you're going to compare the appointment of an Ambassador to the Haliburton deals?!? LOL!!!!

Haliburton is STILL costing the taxpayer BILLIONS, killing our troops with shoddy work, and lining the pockets of Cheney/Bush. This compares how?

Some people can do no wrong. As far as republicans are concerned the President can do no right.
