Lives of McCain, Obama to overlap at Naval commencement

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Obama will deliver a commencement address with multiple McCains in the audience. "](CNN) - When President Obama delivers the commencement address at the U.S. Naval Academy on Friday, he will have a former presidential candidate and proud parent of one of the graduates in attendance.

John Sidney McCain IV, more commonly known as "Jack," will become the fourth McCain to graduate from the Annapolis, Maryland, service academy and the fourth with the same name.

About mid-day at the academy's commissioning and graduation ceremony, McCain will receive a Bachelor of Science degree, take the oath of office and be commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Navy 103 years after his great-grandfather did the same.

It's great that John McCain has to sit quietly in the audience and listen to President Obama. Who knows, if John plays his cards right, he might get to shake the President's hand. Ain't life grand.

Hope he isn't at the bottom of his class like his dad. Congrats to him and hope he has a good future ahead of him. Supported McCain in 2000, but Palin killed any chance of 2008 support for the Repubs.

  5. Pragmatic

Both President Obama and Senator McCain, being civilized people would have no problem being at the same place at the same time for the same purpose: graduation of the class of 2009. Just one of those little coincidences of life.

And un-like most of the GOP leadership John McCain will be an officer and a gentleman and show respect to his Commander in Chief. I hope the press pays as much attention to that as it does when Cheney acts dis-respectfully.

Not a bad lineage for "Jack" McCain unlike Obama's who's father bang a American white chick and both dump the kid onto the grandmother to raise.

Congratulations to the McCain family for a college graduate....might I add to all parents who had a college graduate this year....I have had all three graduate and it is a proud moment.

I just hope Obama is capable of giving this speech to the Naval Academy without slamming Bush and Cheney, slamming our intel agencies, our soldiers and Americans in general.

Congratulations to the younger McCain. I imagine it is not easy to graduate from the naval academy. Lets see how many people have something negative to say about it on this blog. By the way, what is the headline trying to say when it says "Lives of McCain and Obama to overlap at Naval Commencement"? Is this supposed to be another "showdown" like Obama and Cheney in the news yesterday?

  20. No Hope

How can a NON_MILITARY person give the commencement at the naval academy, that is a JOKE. What does Obama know about military and their tactics, NOTHING. Obama makes this country LESS SAFE daily with his rules.
