Pelosi refuses to answer questions

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/05/21/art.pelosi.gi.jpg caption="Nancy Pelosi is no longer discussing her charge that the CIA misled Congress."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi refused to answer questions Friday about her stinging accusation last week that the CIA misled her about the use of waterboarding and Republican demands that she provide evidence.

"I have made the statement that I'm going to make on this. I don't have anything more to say about it," she pointedly told reporters. "I stand by my comment and - and what we are doing is staying on our course, and not be distracted from it."

The speaker changed the format of her weekly press conference Friday. Instead of appearing solo, Pelosi brought in three of her Democratic leadership colleagues. After the leaders gave 25 minutes of statements about their legislative accomplishments, Pelosi took just 5 minutes of questions from reporters, and only answered one about the back-and-forth over enhanced interrogation methods.

Despite repeated efforts by reporters to follow up on the issue, Pelosi dismissed them, saying, "I won't have anything more to say about it."

Pelosi may be ready to turn the page, but Republicans clearly aren't. Just minutes after the press conference, Ken Spain, spokesman for the National Republican Campaign Committee sent out a statement blasting her performance. "Speaker Pelosi stammered and filibustered around the elephant in the room because she knows full well that she has become a political liability to her fellow Democrats in Congress," he said.

"Her obsession with the previous administration and her disdain for America's intelligence officials has reduced her to cheerleader status within the far left wing of her party and a distraction to the substantive debate over how to best move our economy forward."

She's contradicted herself so many times on this subject, she can't remember which lie she told anymore. As a moderate democrat, she needs to go away. She is only hurting the party and Obama. I would have much more respect for her if she would only own up to the fact that she made a mistake. Why is it so hard for her to apologize?

So, let me get this straight. If you told someone something, then seven years later said "Remember when I told you that?" and they said "No" you can legitimately call them a liar? Interesting.
And how exactly is answering a question four times but not the fifth time ducking the question? Man, you right-wingers have some weird definitions. Much more confusing than what "is" is.

In the beginning it really was much ado about nothing. But Pelosi just had to make her accusations about the CIA. It doesnt matter whether or not she has any justification. Its quite possible she does. But it was the worst political move an experienced politician could make. And she's paying the price.

I wouldn't be suprised if the CIA mislead Congress. There are some people that believe the CIA would not do such a thing. Think again my friends.

Bush and Cheney set a whole new low standard when it comes to doing a bad job and the country allowing you to keep your job and even get relected. Nancy has not anything close to what Bush-Cheney did, so leave her alone.

Anything that comes out of this ladies mouth is a LIE. Pelosi should be tried for treason and jailed for lieing to Congress. If it was any other of us, we would be jailed.

You people need to seriously keep up. The CIA documents released have the wrong dates, the wrong names of who was there, and don't say what was talked about. Sen. Graham and others have verified that
these briefings did not take place. Even the head of the CIA said that he couldn't say if their information was even accurate. What more do you want? Get over it and move on.

Republicans should keep slamming Pelosi over this. It keeps the whole Bush/Cheney torture debate alive. As it gathers momentum a criminal investigation is bound to result. Pelosi knew, Pelosi, Pelosi knew – THAT BUSH and CHENEY AUTHORIZED TORTURE! TORTURE IS ILLEGAL!

Start the Torture trails already, and we all will find out who started the torture and who knew and when they knew. Must everything be so polarized, Whether the reason was FEAR of another attact or Justified aggresion to protect, we USED TORTURE. So in my opinion , we should acknowledge why we did, not justify and move on. WE do not Torture going forward.

The headline on this is wrong. It's not that Mrs. Pelosi refuses to answer questions, but she is not going to give a different answer no matter how many times she is asked.

it seems like, from my observations from comments posted, majority of men are releasing anger on a women speaker, accusing her for some simple logic they don't understand. I believe gender equality in America still have rooms for improvement.

Are they working twice as hard to be half as good? Nah-h-h! Bob Woodward's next book ought to be an eye-opener, if he has the chops. Oops! Sorry, Rahm serves fish on Fridays.
