Liberty University bans College Dems

(CNN) - Liberty University, the evangelical school in Virginia founded by the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, is drawing heat Friday for its decision to revoke recognition of the College Democrats' chapter on campus.

According to the Lynchburg News & Advance, the school decided a week ago the organization "stood against the moral principles" held by the school and therefore could no longer be sanctioned.

Maria Childress, the staff adviser to the club, told the paper the school - which opposes abortion rights and gay marriage - had issues with the Democratic Party platform.

Childress says she was told by Mark Hine, the vice president of student affairs, that "'You can't be a Democrat and be a Christian and be a university representative.'"

In a conference call with reporters Friday, Terry McAuliffe - the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee who is running for governor of Virginia - sharply criticized the move.

The university did not return CNN's request for comment.

Well, this is a private university, they have a right to ban anyone. Even though its totally stupid. How do you learn and grow when your believes are never challenged?

As a Catholic, we have many universities, our universities do not ban anyone. I am proud of this.

How narrow minded can "Liberty" U., be?

Naturally the Hannity/Limbaugh crowd will defend this as a victory for the rights of a private college, much as they would be screaming bloody murder were a different private college choose to revoke recognition of College Republicans. "You can't be a Democrat and be a Christian" is one of the most inflammatory statements I have ever heard.

    Hogwash ....

These Democratic students are no more or less "moral" than the Young Republicans. In fact, I'll bet there is more debauchery from those toe-tapping republicans.

Too bad Liberty U doesn't realized that in this day such lies get revealled and propogate quickly on You-Tube, Twitter, etc.

We should ban Liberty University then, how about that! They certain don't seem to represent the ideals and values we as American cherish – those of free speech and of free association. And at the time when more people in this Christian nation consider themselves Democrats than ever before, for Liberty to say and do things it did is not just morally offensive, it's un-American and it's reeks of stupidity.

But then again, what do you expect of people who think the world began few thousand years ago 🙂

Look citizens on where we are going with all this....

    Liberals – I hate them.

Obama plays on class warfare, fear and hatred. That is the basis of every speech he gives.

Absolutely ridiculous. Another sad example of people being unable to be open minded, accept others and accept the fact that not everyone will has the same views as them. And they call themselves a University?

Democratic platform opposes abortion rights and gay marriage?- I believe we have a typo.

Why is CNN not reporting on the Pelosi news confrence and her still accusing the CIA of lying. And why is it ok for police to use electric shock on americans(tazar) but not ok to pour water on a terrorist.

Jesus would crap down these peoples throats. They are the most vile form of flat earth morons in existance. They live in the gutter and drink up what ever narrow minded half witted completely idiotic fairy tale you tell them, as long as you do it with a lot of make up on, or ask them for money after telling them.

As a true christian, I can tell you for certain these deviants shall rot in hell for their passionate hatred of all man kind!

I'm surprised a place like Liberty ever recognized them. Last time I was in one of "those" churches the pastor was preaching that voting Democrat even one time is a mortal sin. I left the Republican party the next day, by the way. I'm no Democrat, but no way in heck do I want to be associated with those crazies.

Well, it is a private religious university so it should be able to do whatever it wants. If it was a public university it would be a different story.

We should ban the accreditation of Liberty University, it's obviously not a real university for higher learning. What a bunch of idiots!
