Liberty University bans College Dems

(CNN) - Liberty University, the evangelical school in Virginia founded by the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, is drawing heat Friday for its decision to revoke recognition of the College Democrats' chapter on campus.

According to the Lynchburg News & Advance, the school decided a week ago the organization "stood against the moral principles" held by the school and therefore could no longer be sanctioned.

Maria Childress, the staff adviser to the club, told the paper the school - which opposes abortion rights and gay marriage - had issues with the Democratic Party platform.

Childress says she was told by Mark Hine, the vice president of student affairs, that "'You can't be a Democrat and be a Christian and be a university representative.'"

In a conference call with reporters Friday, Terry McAuliffe - the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee who is running for governor of Virginia - sharply criticized the move.

The university did not return CNN's request for comment.

As a Republican I can't believe that a school would ban the Democratic club because it offers a different viewpoint. By doing that, by silencing your opposition they are no better than Obama and company.

Although I don't think Hell exists, I almost hope it does just so I can stand in the line at the entrance to Hell...and see all the Christians standing in the same line with me waiting to get a roasting.

No. "We libs" are generally against any form of censorship.

I have been a Baptist (Southern) for over 50 years, but lately I haven't felt very comfortable with the church's stands on some subjects. One that has really irritated me is the idea that you can't be a Christian and vote for a Democrat. If I have to I will walk out of my church with my head held high, but I will not be brow-beaten by anyone mixing politics with my religion.

Liberty University. . . Tolerance is thy name. Now that you have burned the US Constitution, make sure you do not take any funds whatsoever from the Feds or State government.

Well they are just putting their religion ahead of their politics... nothing wrong with that... people also have the right to put their politics ahead of their religion.

You Dems aren't so different from Liberty University. Seems like you both want to wipe out those with differing beliefs.

They say don't practice abortion, but yet they believe in tortue, molestation on children and racism.

They sure didn't have a problem taking the money from the Democratic parents to pay for the Democratic kid's tuition, though. LOL. What a bunch.

I don't know about ban, but I strongly recommend that they should be thoroughly checked by a psychiatrist. Democrats at Liberty?! Something seriously wrong with them!

I thought that a condition of a church's tax exemption was to keep their mouths shut on political issues. If they are going to be pushing a backward political agenda, shouldn't the churches be required to pay tax? The US could certainly use the revenue.

I might be wrong, but maybe not.

    Margot –
It's not hard for a "real" conservative to find common ground with others. Or at least disagree without being disagreeable.
Then again, a "real" conservative doesn't want Big Government sticking its nose into everybody's bedroom and telling people to face Mecca five times a day to pray.
Ooops, confusing the Religious Right with the Taliban again. Easy mistake to make these days! Same principles apply though, just a different name for their excuse to control other people's lives.

  22. Way to go, Jerry!!

Cool, Jerry. As if anyone had any doubts about the remarkable workings of your mind, this erases any doubt. You've managed to prove once again that religion divides rather than unites people, and that it is an instrument by which some people control others.

Another thing, Jerry: You've also proven yet again that you're a narcissist with the IQ of a bean burrito.

Seems to me that if this is a tax-exempt enterprise based on religion, the IRS needs to investigate it based on it now declaring itself affiliated with a political party.

This is equavalent to barring blacks from voting or participating in a constitutional democracy. This is the main reason why only a select group of people will choose the republican party. Democrats rarely try stunts like this. The pockets of someone will be filled after suing the pants off of these morons.
