Liberal activists to descend upon DC

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Liberal political activists will descend on the nation's capital next week to plot strategy on issues ranging from healthcare to energy and the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court.

In previous years the conference was titled "Take Back America," but with President Obama now in the White House it has been renamed "America's Future Now."

Obama addressed the conference in 2006 and 2007, and has been invited to appear once again. So far, the president hasn't RSVP'd - but the 2,000 activists who have will be rubbing elbows with the likes of Jared Bernstein, Vice President Biden's economic advisor; former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean; and Mitch Stewart, who directs Organizing for America, Obama's political arm at the DNC.

Robert Borsage and Roger Hickey of Campaign for America's Future, who are organizing the conference, speak effusively about the president's policy goals, but acknowledge the liberal constituency will not always be supportive of Obama's decisions.

"We know there will be times when we disagree with the president," said Hickey, who added that the goal is to make sure when a conflict arises it can be worked out in a civil manner.

Some liberals are already frustrated by the president's support of preventive detention and his approach to banking reform.

While Borsage said he thinks that Obama is "prepared to do some heavy lifting" to help move his agenda through Congress, he added that it "remains to be seen what he will spend political capital on."

That is where the progressive movement comes in. "For progressives, now is the time to mobilize and drive these issues through," said Hickey, who added that liberals will focus their efforts on convincing Congress to embrace the president's agenda.

On Wednesday, Campaign for America's Future, in conjunction with Media Matters for America, will release a report in which they argue that the U.S. is not a center-right nation as has been portrayed in the media, but rather a centrist or center-left nation. That point of discussion will lead up to the conference, which begins on June 1.

As far as trade with China goes, Richard Nixon got the ball rolling in 1972. His quote was "a prosperous China is good for all of us". As far as the Liberals go, I think that the Ultra Liberals and the Ultra Conservatives should be locked in a cave together and kept there until they can iron out their differences. Which means we would never hear from them again.

So we spend all day reading about the GOP wanting to be "fair" but attacking her anyway...and the only story about anything liberal, so to speak, is something with a headline that reads like a a weather report that a 100 storm is coming to DC? Way to be objective CNN...way to be objective.

For those of you who don't understand, it's not that CNN and other media outlets are "liberal" or "conservative" (for the most part...FOX being a notable exception)'s really that they want nothing more than to turn EVERYTHING into a giant controversy to sell you on what a big deal it is and how important it is for you to tune in for their commercial breaks.

Here comes the Left. Do they bring with them a totalitarian dictatorship? Or do they come to fight a totalitarian democracy?

"Indeed, from the vantage point of the mid twentieth century the history of the last hundred and fifty years looks like a systematic preparation for the headlong collision between empirical and liberal democracy on the one hand, and totalitarian Messianic democracy on the other, in which the world crisis of to-day consists."
Talmun,The Origins of Totalitarian Democracy 1952

J.P. you are a cartoon character!

Listen "GOP til the day u day" America has voted against your mistake in approach and philosophy. Or were you still under the rock (you call home) back in Nov. '08.

Haven't you noticed the majority of Americans think your ideas and philosophies are out right silly?

Try looking at pragmatism instead of ideology as a way back to popularity

There sure are a bunch of idiots out today! We organize to help move this country in a direction that helps everyone, not just rich white people. They laughed during the campaign about Obama being a community organizer. How did that work out for you? This is where it starts. You first make a plan and have an agenda and then work to accomplish your goals. The Republicans might try that, if their only agenda wasn't to spew lies and discontent.

J.P. don't call these liberal policies Robin hood. He stole from the rich yes, but in the story it was the government that was the rich from excessive taxation. The sheriff was his enemy. Robin hood would strike the IRS.

  21. Ask not what big business can do for you but what can you do for big business

Our future now had best come to grips with the fact that if America dosnt drastically alter its completely unsustainable trade policies, especially with China, that there will be no future for America.

These liberal dunderheads better be careful what they plot for, they might actually get it and then we are ALL in trouble. They won't be able to travel again to dc when they have to wait in line a couple years to get any health treatment they might need. They are so really stupid they think they are pulling one over on the conservatives but what they are too stupid to know is they hurt themselves right along with the conservatives.

    Will Washington ever be bipartisan?
I mean I know this is something that has gone on for years, but if we are really declaring real change, then why are both parties still doing the same things? Where is the middle on any issue?

I keep hearing that Socialism rearing its head again_ Now Robin Hood? Is Obama stealing from the poor to give to the filthy rich, that is what the Neo-cons do, but giving back to the poor SOB's who works hard for their money, live paycheck to paycheck...And before you Republicans, say that poor people don't pay taxes, I beg to differ, I worked retail, working full time and making 17,000 dollars a year and that is poverty level, but I am married, but there is many women out there who have to have two to three jobs to make ends meet..
As for Chinese things, Well lets see...Baby formula...Baby funiture...Dog and cat food... wow the Chinese really hate Americans...
