Durbin won't support Burris in 2010

Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin said Wednesday that he will not support fellow Illinois Sen. Roland Burris for re-election in 2010.

Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin said Wednesday that he will not support fellow Illinois Sen. Roland Burris for re-election in 2010.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Sen. Dick Durbin repeated Wednesday that he would not support his colleague from Illinois, Sen. Roland Burris, for re-election in 2010.

Durbin said he told Burris that he was "disappointed" to read a federal wiretap transcript, released on Tuesday, which showed that the junior senator had offered former Gov. Rod Blagojevich campaign cash while trying to win a Senate appointment.

"We stuck our neck out for him and said if you do this thing, you'll do it in a proper, professional way, then we can stand behind you being sworn into the Senate," Durbin said, according to "And I just don't think his testimony was complete and accurate."

Durbin has in the past called for Burris' resignation.

Durbin or DUMB? Who cares who you support, hypocrite!

I am moving to Illinois to challenge you. I do not see why you and Osama do not want a black senator again. Shame!!

Qui Pro Quo is a common political practice everywhere. We are all guilty of it. You have done it, Obama did it with Hillary and Governor Richardson. You will do it again with black community. Obama tried it with Ms. Kennedy of New York. He will do it again with Mr. Kennedy of Illinois.

Hurray for Senator Durban. This slick new senator from Illinois should resign as soon as possible so not to damage the Democratic Party.

Suckers...we have not reached the bottom of this economic freefall yet.

The same economists who predicted the drop past few months have also predicted times will get tougher in Q3/Q4 and start to recover in 2010. Obama loyal sheep are claiming we are on the up and up.

Blame Bush all you want but foreign investors are pulling cash out of America because they see taxes going up and devastating our economy even further. A capitalist fueled agenda creates wealth. A socialist agenda destroys wealth.

The good news in all of this is to horde your cash now to buy heavily when things tank again.

Ooops Dow down 170 points....thought Obama said last week the worst was behind us? NOT!

  4. The Party of NO is only “pro-life” so they will be able to kill the “babies” 18 years later as soldiers in an elective religious war

Burris was on MSNBC"S Hardball and Matthews gave him a grilling, pointing out issues that looked shady on the tape and calling him out from an interview Burris did with Matthews in January or so, and pointed out the conflict in statements between then and caught on the tape.

Burris told Matthews he lied to Blago's brother about raising funds for Blago and told Matthews he had never intended to raise funds.

All in all, I would say Burris will be toast come 2010 if the Ethics committee does not kick him out before then. Of course, if they let repub's "show tune tapper" and the Alaskan Senator stay in office, then Burris should be allowed to as well.

Who cares what Durbin thinks. Nominate Burris, see if he's any good – move on. Democrats can't waste time with in-fighting like this.

Burris should have stayed in Illinois not go to Washington as a Senator. He has clouded the seat in various ways. Hurry Burris and engrave your masuleom and go home.
You have ruined your state's seat along with the Governor. Ugly. Pitiful. Just Plain Pathetic. Pick one any of them.

If Burris offered money for his Senate seat, he should be removed and even prosecuted. Him and Blago can share a cell.

I am not really concerned what Durbin says about Burris I will vote for Burris if he runs again but I will never vote for Durbin. Durbin and Dean should shake hands. They are both underhanded democrats that should have resigned from politics. They both are part of the Chicago machine like Patrick Quinn a corrupt democrat himself. The blacks on the southside of Chicago should not give Durbin their vote because of they way Burris was treated. What is the big deal about the donation Burris made. Democrats have always said you wash my hand and I will wash yours. Just ask Nancy Pelosi.

  11. Todd ashamed of Illinois

I am sorry to admit I live in Chicago'nois'. Governors in jail or going to jail.
Just look President, chief of staff, and a very large number of advisors from the great state of Chicago.
Why don't we offer N Korea the 2016 summer games to stop sabber rattling.
We do have the best government money can buy. I just wish I had a job, then i would have money to contribute to burris, durbin, obama, emmual, jarrert, axlerod, reid, and pelosi. I did read the last two are changing states.
Let's have Peterson take over for burris, already doing worse as it stands now.....
Best of luck to America, we're really going to need it until the 2016 olympics........

Melissa: Where did you read that the people are the boss of Burris. The people are the voters but they can't tell him what to do and not do. I live in Chicago, born and raised here and know what the Daley machine is all about for years. The slogan is wash my hands and I will wash yours and Durbin is no different. Neither is corrupt Patrick Quinn. Get a grip. If Burris gave a check as a donation he's no different than the people that gave millions to Obama to buy him in office. You know it and so does everyone else in this country. This has been the worst underhanded corrupt presidential election in this countries history.

    @ no hope:

number one, eric holder is one person, therefore making him a "racist" not the plural form. (but i don't think he is one)

number two, "liar" is not spelled with an "e".

number three, you lose what little credibility you already have when you can't even speak/type correctly.

Alicia: Yes, Illinois will support Burris and so will I but not Durbin. These democrats like Durbin and Quinn should stop trying to be so holy. They both are as underhanded as can be and they are not the only ones. Reid, Pelosi and Howard Dean (thank goodness he stepped down) are the most corrupt in congress. Reid needs to resign because he's too old to go on. Durbin stop acting like he's in charge over the senate and senators. Its time to clean house of the democrats and make room for more republicans.

Burris wasn't truthful so the voters should throw him out for his attempted pay to play action.

He's "disappointed"? How is that possible? To be disappointed implies that he expected better than this. This is good old Chicago politics at its best. Corrupt to the core, and a national laughingstock.

Those that make comments about Burris and don't live in Illinois can't vote anyway so it shouldn't make any difference to them and what makes them think the senators from their state are not corrupt. Give me a break. Spector who turned democrat got a free ride from the judge even though he made some easy money. And if he runs for the senate I don't think he will win. He will go back to being a republican again and they should toss him.

  19. Durbin is being racist....

Dick-you can't throw a black out of the Senate--just because he committed perjury is no good reason...afterall, you whites have been pulling off all kinds of crimes for the last 200 now its time for blacks to do the crimes and get away with it...

Senator Burris will serve out his term and probably not run again.....If he runs, he will probably be defeated by Chris Kennedy.......I admire and support him......The self righteous holier than thou-ers don't count.....None of them made it as far as Sen. Burris......He has the Seat not them......Judge not lest you be judged....The same way you dish it out it's coming back.....In wrath, remember mercy........Peace....

As far as Obama selecting Sonja Sotomayer because of her race. What about the 106 white guys who were selected without ANY competition from people of color or gender because of theirs?

Durbin better not need votes from the black community. He didn't stick his neck out for Burris, that's a load of self righteous bs. The community leaders called him and told him to get off Roland's back. He started throwing Burris under the bus. I pray for a decent moderate Repug, that would make Durbin sweat bullets.
