Gingrich: Sotomayor 'racist,' should withdraw nomination

Newt Gingrich is, too - and he's demanding that Obama's pick to the Supreme Court withdraw her nomination.
On Twitter, Gingrich pointed to a line in Sotomayor's 2001 speech to a Hispanic group in Berkeley that has drawn fire from some conservatives.
"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life," Sotomayor said in that speech, describing how life experience can inform judicial opinions.
On Wednesday, Gingrich tweeted: "Imagine a judicial nominee said 'my experience as a white man makes me better than a latina woman.' new racism is no better than old racism."
Moments later, he followed up with the message: "White man racist nominee would be forced to withdraw. Latina woman racist should also withdraw."
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs responded to Gingrich's criticism at Wednesday's briefing.
"I think it is probably important for anybody involved in this debate to be exceedingly careful with the way in which they've decided to describe different aspects of this impending confirmation," Gibbs said.
I would ask Gingrich how he drew his conclusion that she was a racist because of her comment quoted in the article. My problem with this nominee was her reaction when the white firefighters sued for "reverse discrimination" and she disagreed. I would like her to explain that decision before I label her a racist.

Perhaps she was talking about a situation that a latina woman would indeed have a better perspective on. I'd like to hear the context of this remark. Would Newt understand the struggles of a poor migrant worker better than Sotomayor? Or the challenges of raising a child in an inner-city housing project?

Her comment was clearly about life experience, not race, whereas Gingrich's counter-example simply emphasizes race.
Since he is smart enough to know the difference, he is simply lying for the benefit of those too stupid to see the difference.

Just google "sotomayor wise latina full quote" and find one of the articles that give her whole 2001 speech. Make up your own mind, rather than letting serial adulterer Gingrich, drug-addled Limbaugh, and that odious little racist toad Sessions do your thinking for you.
Gingrich has long passed his time. Stay in your lane, you are a former speaker of a now defunct minority party. With every word, he sinks himself and the party he used to lead further.
It's healthy for the country to start talking about these issues. However, the "leaders" on the right and the left need to stop using these episodes as a vehicle to promote their own agenda.

If the Supreme Court nominee was a man with the same qualifications as Judge Sotomayor, would Newt Gingrich be calling him "racist?
