Gingrich: Sotomayor 'racist,' should withdraw nomination

Newt Gingrich is, too - and he's demanding that Obama's pick to the Supreme Court withdraw her nomination.
On Twitter, Gingrich pointed to a line in Sotomayor's 2001 speech to a Hispanic group in Berkeley that has drawn fire from some conservatives.
"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life," Sotomayor said in that speech, describing how life experience can inform judicial opinions.
On Wednesday, Gingrich tweeted: "Imagine a judicial nominee said 'my experience as a white man makes me better than a latina woman.' new racism is no better than old racism."
Moments later, he followed up with the message: "White man racist nominee would be forced to withdraw. Latina woman racist should also withdraw."
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs responded to Gingrich's criticism at Wednesday's briefing.
"I think it is probably important for anybody involved in this debate to be exceedingly careful with the way in which they've decided to describe different aspects of this impending confirmation," Gibbs said.

Sotomayor is a racist. All one has to do is read what she says and wrote.
Another typical Obama nominee. The only qualifications Obama sought was race and gender.

If one actually looks at the CONTEXT of Sotymayor's quote, she was specifically discussing the importance of judicial diversity in determining race and sex discrimination cases.

I am so sick of the privileged class whining about racism. It's enough to make me vomit. Whine when you get turned down for a job, have sales people follow you around stores, are harassed by the cops (maybe even frisked), can't buy a house in a certain neighborhood or when one of your relatives is hung from a tree ALL solely because of the color of your skin. Or whine when everyone assumed you got a job offer, like Judge Sotomayor, ONLY due to your race and not because your VERY qualified. Just shut up!!
I really think that Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh should team up... as the true leaders of the Party of "No"... and present their findings to the Senate Judiciary Committee. I'm sure the Senators would then more fully understand where the twits, I mean twitters (or tweaters) are coming from.
Sotomayor's comment was simply a statement of experience trumping race. She pointed out that a minority with a substantial amount of wisdom is going to come to a better conclusion than someone of the majority culture who does not have the same. Therefore, race is irrelevant in terms of qualifications. Once again, these people are wresting words and intentions to discredit someone unfairly. It seems that anytime you mention race in this country you're labeled a "racist." She's a solid choice, and even the Republicans on their most "fair" and "impartial" days can see it. Try again, Newt.
What an idiot he is. Sonya Sotomayor is just telling women not to settle. A white man is not ALWAYS the grand prize. (Some are. Newt and Rush are booby prizes.)

I know liberals bashed justice Roberts when he was nominated but come on thats life. I read that racist comment as: "I'm starting to get worried that she may someday sit in judgment of me". Republicans are so repulsive individuals. It is no wonder that so many Americans reject their hatred.
I think Newt & Rush should be given a basic skills test. They have dyslexia. Sotomayor did not say what Newt tweeted, had she said that I would probably agree that she should withdraw. These idiots so conveniently leave off the last few words of her statement "who hasn't lived the life." I think that statement has merit. No one can tell or relate to a particular race, gender, or anyone else of a certain demographic of their experiences but them. It’s simple, if you are married and need counseling would you go to someone who has never been married? How could they relate?
Isn't possible she was simply stating that a latina woman and a white man may have differing views on certain topics? That would only be natural.
White men can come to better conclusions regarding experiences in lives of white men.
Women can come to better conclusions regarding experiences in lives of women.
Latinos can come to better conclusions regarding experiences in lives of Latinos.
African-Americans can come to better conclusions regarding experiences of African-Americans.

Gingrich is entitled to his opinion. Where was he when Justice Thomas pulled the race card with his "This is a modern day lynching" when questioned about Anita Hill or Limbaugh's playing the song "Barrack the magic negro"?
