Dodd says 'strong, vibrant' Kennedy wants to return to Senate

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The Lion of the Senate looks ready to roar again, a colleague says.

Sen. Christopher Dodd told a news conference Tuesday that he dined on Sunday night with Democratic colleague Sen. Edward Kennedy, who is battling brain cancer and has been away from the chamber for months.

"He was strong; he was vibrant," Dodd said of Kennedy, who led the drafting of an initial comprehensive health care reform bill despite his illness. "I very much hope Sen. Kennedy will be back."

Dodd has assumed Senate command of the health care issue in Kennedy's absence, and he said Tuesday that Senate Democrats are missing the knowledge and passion of their veteran colleague.

"He wants to come back and be a part of this, obviously," said Dodd, a close personal friend of Kennedy. Still, Kennedy insists that Congress should act on health care now, whether or not he can be there, according to Dodd.

"He is absolutely adamant that we go forward," Dodd said.

If there is this much negativity surrounding the return of Ted Kennedy to the Senate, the Republicans must be shaking in their boots. Kennedy is t HUGE force for good in the world at this very point in time. I hope God gives him enough time to complete the task of getting decent health care for those of us who do not get gold plated plans from our employers.

Thank you Teddy – and may your influence guide us to universal health care.

You Kennedy-haters should be ashamed of yourselves. How many of YOU have sacrificed THREE sons for America?

"Kill Granny" health reform? Us old folks will be denied the medical care we need to save money to give to Wall Street and bankers! Will Kennedy try to change the "kill granny" mentality in Washington - I doubt it.

It amazes me that all these people outside of Massachusetts think they can tell/ask the senator from that state to retire. This is between Ted Kennedy and the people who elected him. If they wanted him to go I'm sure he would get the message. I suspect they want to keep him, and his seniority and wisdom, around for as long as possible – as is their right as his employers.

Get over it! Teddy will be a force to be reckoned with

Old buzzard needs to fly away and let some new ideas hatch. We have been hearing the same old health care crap out of him for too long. I pay for my own healthcare and I don't want to pay taxes on it so that the ones too lazy to get out and work can have it for nothing.

I am hard pressed to believe all the ugliness that comes from posts to this blog.
Read your history books on MJKopekne, he didn't murder her, she drowned, his fault was failure to attempt to get help.
Additionally, read his congressional record, he has been the sponsor of an untold number of bills that have helped the middle class and working poor.
    So back off your ugly.
Best of health to Ted Kennedy.

One that got away with murder and one got away with robbing his country, they both should be in prison.
