President issues get out of class pass to 10-year-old

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (CNN) - How do you get away with skipping classes on your last day of school?

Make sure you get your hands on a presidential pardon.

President Barack Obama held a town hall meeting on Thursday in Green Bay, Wisconsin to discuss his health care agenda - but he also took a little time to write an all-important "get out of school" note.

A young girl named Kennedy attended the town hall with her father, who was called on to ask a question.

Her father, John Corpus, started his query saying he hoped his daughter wouldn't get into trouble for missing the last day of school.

"Do you need me to write a note?" Obama asked.

Clearly assuming that Obama was just kidding, Corpus continued with his question - only to be interrupted by the president.

"No, no, I'm serious. What's your daughter's name?" Obama said, as he started to write a note. "I'm going to write to Kennedy's teacher."

He then walked over to the girl and handed her the note: "To Kennedy’s Teacher, Please excuse Kennedy’s absence…she’s with me. Barack Obama"

No word yet on whether the president's get out of school free card did the trick.

Needs to read, "free pass to get out of debt in the year....." So sweet of Barack for a man who has mired this little girl in debt during her adulthood. Quit the campaigning Barack, I blame you for what's happening in this country now, not Bush.

that's rather sweet, even the leader of the free world has some time to make a little sweetie feel special

hehehe, oh you silly GOPers and your grumpiness... always all grouchy and bent out of shape, even when it comes to a "good" piece of news... Well then again you have to deal with rush, sarah and darling newt...

I just can't imagine rush or newt doing this...

When Palin had her whole family on the campaign – none of the Republicans made a coment not even when they spend all the money for Sarah and the kids – OUR PRESIDENT is a person who cares – does not sling bad comments about anybody. So let him do his job.

I'll tell you why this is newsworthy. It's pleasant and a nice break from the Republican racist that murdered a man yesterday.

    Take THAT! hahaha...

Ya know, I'm always amazed at the number of haters on these things. Talk about your negativity and cynicism. Why do you look for ulterior motives like photo ops, a need to be "worshipped', etc. ? Can't anything ever just be a decent gesture?

Cut the man a break. Sheesh.

    TCM,
More 'teleprompter' crap, huh? You can't be serious after witnessing the gibberish coming from that boob we had for the last 8 years.

Funny how a party that practically worshipped that fraud Ronald Reagan in the 80's is all over Obama for speaking well and having a little charisma.

Oh, give it a rest. Sheesh. I'm a conservative Republican, but it's idiots who bash something like this that give conservatives and Republicans a bad name.

The guy was clever. Good. He's my president; I want him to be clever. I may not agree with many of his policies, and I'd rather someone with different policies be in office, but that doesn't mean I have to hate him or criticize what he does.

Fellow conservatives: we're not going to win any hearts or minds by being petty and sniping at everything. Lighten up!

It's great to have a President who is not only very bright but so down to earth and like the guy next door. Most have been very stand offish. I guess coming from a humble beginning help as oppose to being born with a silver spoon in your mouth.

Hmmm, I don't think the doctors will leave this country to work.....where exactly would they go to make anywhere near as much as they do here? Not to mention relocating a family is not an easy thing to do.

For crying out loud...it's a feel good story. Not everything is political. Get a grip, desperate Repubs.

By the way, for those who trotted out the Obama's "date" to NYC....not sure how that matters here....but...

    1) I can go to NYC for a play. You can go to NYC for a play. Why can't the President? He's not allowed to drive there like us even if he wanted to. I for one am glad the man wants to get out into the world around him.
    2) Look up how often Mr. Bush took the whole dog and pony show out to Crawford, Texas–how about some dollar values for his travels? One website says he traveled there 77 times and spent nearly 500 days of his presidency there.........HUM-M-M-M-M.

Refreshing to have a President who takes the time to go out and LISTEN to the citizens of our nation. His skills and experience as a community organizer are invaluable iin his role as POTUS. Go out, ask for feedback, listen to feedback and then help the group move forward. What is so difficult about that concept?

I heard on the Letterman Show that the daughter of the Alaska governor was knocked up by a New York baseball player!

Does this mean that she won't be marrying the young man in Alaska?

Has anyone got any info. on this?

Is this really important enough to have this much hostility about? So what if the president gave a note to a little girl. It doesn't have global ramifications. And I'm not just taking to the conservatives here. The liberals are just as bad.

  20. Points

Just wanted to show some points...

    1) Not every thing "news worthy" needs to be depressing, that is one reason why our country is as bad as it is right now. Good uplifting, human kindness stories are good for Morale.

    2) The President may be good at Photo-ops, but I highly doubt he planned this out, what is wrong with something like this? Photographers are hired to capture the moment to preserve it for history. Not every thing has to be turned into something negative.

    3) ... I will leave my third argument for another day, I'm too tired right now :(.... MODERATE 3rd PARTY LONELINESS FOR THE WIN!!!!

Wow, hatred and vitriol from the right, even on a fun little thing like this. Shocking.
And this truancy crap is ridiculous. The last day of school is meaningless. That father should be commended for giving his daughter an opportunity to see the president in person. How many of you got that chance as a kid?

I find it absolutely disgusting that our illegally-elected "President" would send the message that it's okay for children to skip school. I hope you Obamaniacs are willing to buy the note on Ebay because that's the only income she's going to have after the economy is ruined even more when we become socialist and this Kennedy (what a name *hurl*) tries to get a job at a McDonald's after spending the next several years thinking it's okay to skip school. My hard-earned tax dollars are going to have to pay for her eventual 6 children because everyone knows the poor people have more children and get handouts thanks to Obama. He basically just ruined her life and it makes me sick none of you LOONS don't see it.

Does anyone else think that is is funny that he knew her name before he even asked. Maybe it was just the way it was written but ,by saying "No, no, I'm serious. What's your daughter's name?" Obama said, as he started to write a note. "I'm going to write to Kennedy's teacher." makes it sound like it was staged
