President issues get out of class pass to 10-year-old

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (CNN) - How do you get away with skipping classes on your last day of school?

Make sure you get your hands on a presidential pardon.

President Barack Obama held a town hall meeting on Thursday in Green Bay, Wisconsin to discuss his health care agenda - but he also took a little time to write an all-important "get out of school" note.

A young girl named Kennedy attended the town hall with her father, who was called on to ask a question.

Her father, John Corpus, started his query saying he hoped his daughter wouldn't get into trouble for missing the last day of school.

"Do you need me to write a note?" Obama asked.

Clearly assuming that Obama was just kidding, Corpus continued with his question - only to be interrupted by the president.

"No, no, I'm serious. What's your daughter's name?" Obama said, as he started to write a note. "I'm going to write to Kennedy's teacher."

He then walked over to the girl and handed her the note: "To Kennedy’s Teacher, Please excuse Kennedy’s absence…she’s with me. Barack Obama"

No word yet on whether the president's get out of school free card did the trick.

it's not sweet is just media playing. If Palin did that, everyone would be screaming and being mean. The readers of CNN ticker are like sheep, just put a headline that mentions republicans and poof like cockroaches coming out of the woodwork, lets throw out hate. Note, I'm not saying anything mean about Obama.

How dare Obama do something "cute", while right wing haters attack his "marxist" policies.

    Where is the outrage?
We didn't elect Obama to do "cute" things.

Blah, blah, more right wing blather, blah, blah, party of no, socialism,
    fascism, blah, blah

    OBAMA ROCKS

Why would anyone consider this as anything other than a sincere gesture? All those jaded right wing doubters can't possibly read minds or look into a man's heart. They are the poorest of LOSERS!

That was cool. Yes, he has the personal touch and that I admire him for, respect him for and like about him. I am not a fan of where he is leading the country politically and will work against that aspect of his world but I am a fan on where he can lead us in how we can act with one another on a human level.
    Well done Mr. Obama!

To the comments below....1.) There is a difference between a child being abscent and a child being truant. 2.) I think people worship God everyday in some form or another. Its really nice to see a President that really cares about the people he is serving.

How sad that some do not understand the value of this experience out of school as voter education. Never mind making her a life long democrat. May she and many other young people become lifelong voters and thoughtful ones!

This episode was so totally delightful. thanks POTUS.
    you are a true person.
Now, hopefully, you have a plan to get around the board re:
    the future of this country.
People will get out into the streets soon re: Health Care Public option. can't wait. just wish I were young and could still do that.

How can you people bash this? How could you possibly find it in you to say something mean-spirited about this? Is the requirement to be a Repub now to be arrogant, snarky, bitter, & selfish. That is all the party stands for now in my eyes. GROW UP!!!!

It is the last day of school. We all know that the teachers are just as excited as the students for the school year to be over. Heck my daughter's school has made her last day of school a 1/2 day, with early dismissal. This student had the chance to meet the POTUS or go to the last day of school where she would probably have nothing to do. Some of you are saying photo-op or truancy....for goodness sake are you serious? Her parents thought she would be better served to see the President, how could that be wrong? If McCain won (THANK THE GOOD LORD HE DIDN'T) would you be saying the same thing? You bitter Repubs are ridiculous!!!!

Poor Harley, I'm sorry you can't just enjoy the fact that we have a classy, intelligent and smart Prez who just saw a chance to make the day special for the little girl. And I wouldn't confuse admiration for worship.

nice general interest story. Come on people so what if it doesn't seem like news. People like to feel connected to what the president is doing and it is good to know he is out there still talking to the people and taking an interest.

Shirley In California Now On The Fence Re Obama, you said:

"The father is the one who should be reprimanded. Why would he take his young daughter out of school to listen to adult issues? Obama is not her father he is her president. Any pardons should be left to the parents or did he now feel he had enough authority?"

You have to be kidding? Maybe it was too complicated for you at that age, but many kids now-a-day are a little more sophisticated. Or maybe you just wanted to find fault with something about Obama since you didn’t vote for him. I do know one thing. Obama has made a Democrat for life with that girl and that is what bothers most republicans.

If someone plays hookey to hang out in the mall, party or get into trouble that's one matter. This girl's father took her out of school to get a first hand lesson in Civics/Social Studies. I think that's OK. Who knows? The man might have asked for her to be excused before pulling her out. The President just saved him the trouble of putting pen to paper. This is not much of an issue.

awww...how cute! Now, on to Obama screwing the country over with this health care agenda.....the government can't run a thing without fouling it up...what makes America think this total greenhorn can fix it? Sure health care costs are high, but start screwing the the system in a hurried, reckless, obama-like manner, and you'll send the best doctors running to other countries....so, hopefully the system can changed minimally, and without any obama socialism injected.
