President issues get out of class pass to 10-year-old

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (CNN) - How do you get away with skipping classes on your last day of school?

Make sure you get your hands on a presidential pardon.

President Barack Obama held a town hall meeting on Thursday in Green Bay, Wisconsin to discuss his health care agenda - but he also took a little time to write an all-important "get out of school" note.

A young girl named Kennedy attended the town hall with her father, who was called on to ask a question.

Her father, John Corpus, started his query saying he hoped his daughter wouldn't get into trouble for missing the last day of school.

"Do you need me to write a note?" Obama asked.

Clearly assuming that Obama was just kidding, Corpus continued with his question - only to be interrupted by the president.

"No, no, I'm serious. What's your daughter's name?" Obama said, as he started to write a note. "I'm going to write to Kennedy's teacher."

He then walked over to the girl and handed her the note: "To Kennedy’s Teacher, Please excuse Kennedy’s absence…she’s with me. Barack Obama"

No word yet on whether the president's get out of school free card did the trick.

Shirley, seriously?? As far as I am concerned more parents should take their kids out of school to go listen to the president and other members of our government speak more often...that is half the problem with our country...everyone wants to have an opinion but they don't get involved by going to town hall meetings, volunteering etc. If you don't think empowering children to be involved from an early age can make a huge difference in the direction of our country you are sadly mistaken. And what do you really think she was missing on the last day of school? A pizza party? My children missed their last day of school to attend an Obama rally and it sparked a fire in them to be a part of the campaign. At 9 and 12 they know more about their government and the issues that our country is facing than most grown adults!!! You think they are teaching that in schools?

    Great Man! Great Parent!

It's sad that the Republican Right Wing Extremists have lost the ability to see the good in anything or anyone. All they seem to be able to feel is fear, hate and anger. What a very sad existence.

43% of the people responding to the Palin/Letterman story though Letterman was justified with his comments, and then this idiot the dope smokers elected as president pull a child out of class so the press can glorify his next robbery of the American people. Liberals are really some dangerous sickos.

Some people will only rant this as aduration from the media, they don't see the moral of this story...

    How can we educate everyone?

Some of the comments posted by the far-right-GOPers, are typical of the vile that is spewed daily against the President of the United States!

What's most disturbing to me, a Christian, are all the God-references that clearly offend, even God!

To criticize this child or the president for meeting, is downright mean.

Obama Victim, you should be ashamed to make these kind of remarks! You have no clue what you are talking about. It amazes me that there are such ignorant people who don't see that having this president it is the best what could have happened to US after 8 catastrophic years of wars, lies, icy foreign policy and corruption.

The U.S. is suffering from the worst economic crisis in history and Mr. Obama focuses his precious time writing a school absentee note. This is exactly like Bush's reading a book to children while the country suffers it's worst attack on our soil. Obama and Bush are like two peas in pod.

And the moral of the story is,

Skipping school even the last day is not an option and the President communicated just that!

@ Fair is Fair, who said "Queue up the predictable Obama love-fest…"

Don't forget the predictable knee-jerk Obama hate-fest either. Guy does something nice, connecting with people in a way most presidents don't, and voila...we'll be treated to a bunch of posts bashing him. I'll give you one guess as to which "fest" does more damage to the people engaging in it.

This is a cute newsworthy story. Everyone (except bitter right wingers apparently) likes a cute, lighthearted story now and then since most news these days is bad. Our President is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

    The pipeline is a go:

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin celebrates a landmark agreement between TransCanada and ExxonMobil to partner together in building Alaska’s natural gas pipeline – the largest and most complex construction project in North America.

What is all the whining from the neocons? They hate school anyway, so why is it suddenly wrong for somebody to skip school?

Civics (definined): "The branch of political science that deals with civic affairs and the rights and duties of citizens".

Town Hall Meetings presided over by government officials definitely fall into the category of Civics, especially when the intention is to inform citizenry of relevant matters while taking questions from the floor.

I can't believe that everyone does not see this as a simple caring gesture by a man who happens to be our president. Nothing more, nothing less.

When I was about 15 years old, my parents took me and my brother to a speech that President Kennedy gave at Madison Square Garden in NYC. I didn't understand a lot of what he was saying in the speech, but the memory of sitting in that huge audience listening to the President of the United States is something that has stayed with me my whole life. I am now 63 going on 64.

I applaud that father for taking his daughter to see and listen to the President. And good for the President for light-heartedly writing her a note for school.

Lighten up right-wingers. Members of the Party of No are just digging themselves a deeper whole by opposing EVERYTHING our President does.

As an independent moderate, I have vowed to NEVER vote for another Republican again in my life.

It is a party of hate, bigotry, self-interest, lies and hypocrisy. And I have voted for a large number of Republicans in the last 40+ years. Never again.....

    Obama fatique.

When are you guys going to give him a tough question?
He is on the TV everyday not solving the problem but he is doing the show, the show we are sick of for a few weeks.

Any of you report MO's expensive taste on her sporting shoes? A $540 Lavin shoes in such a bad econ time? His NYC DATE costed our tax payers $24000 – $300000 for a single date in such a bad time?

I get sick of his own expensive spending; I get sick of his ADMIN. wasteful spendings.

He and the MSM thinks we are fools, ah? I got so many letters and emails from the DNC and the key figures of the democrate party asking me for annual donation. I told them I got sick of the one-sided MSM and got sick of his arrogance and his wasteful and uncontrolled spending.

Wish my message could stay here for a few minutes ...
