President issues get out of class pass to 10-year-old

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (CNN) - How do you get away with skipping classes on your last day of school?

Make sure you get your hands on a presidential pardon.

President Barack Obama held a town hall meeting on Thursday in Green Bay, Wisconsin to discuss his health care agenda - but he also took a little time to write an all-important "get out of school" note.

A young girl named Kennedy attended the town hall with her father, who was called on to ask a question.

Her father, John Corpus, started his query saying he hoped his daughter wouldn't get into trouble for missing the last day of school.

"Do you need me to write a note?" Obama asked.

Clearly assuming that Obama was just kidding, Corpus continued with his question - only to be interrupted by the president.

"No, no, I'm serious. What's your daughter's name?" Obama said, as he started to write a note. "I'm going to write to Kennedy's teacher."

He then walked over to the girl and handed her the note: "To Kennedy’s Teacher, Please excuse Kennedy’s absence…she’s with me. Barack Obama"

No word yet on whether the president's get out of school free card did the trick.

Sarah Palin yanked all of her kids out of school for weeks on end to hit the campaign trail with her! Get over it right wingers! Oooops wait! can't make a comment that alludes to Palin's children. That's taboo!

I didn't vote for Obama but I think it was nice of him to take the time. It will get him some points but I don't think that was his intentions. It was a spur of the moment thing and that's the way he is.

I think that was awesome, and quite funny!

To the people who are making negative comments... get a life, and get over yourself! Get back in touch with your funny bone!

I would have loved to have been in her shoes regardless of her age. What a way to learn about how your country works.

Please nationalize health care. It will save money, help people, get rid of the crooked HMO's and truly annoy the Republicans when it proves all of their petty and deceitful rants wrong.

This is not news as far as I'm concerned. Sarah Palin appears to be desperate to stay in the public eye. Her views and comments do not represent the majority of Americans. I have no interest in her opinions and will celebrate the moment when we can go a month and not hear her name. She is irrelevant.

My husband and I are both educators, and we have taken our son (also 10) out of school to travel to Washington, DC and abroad because we considered those trips to be educational opportunities. We would take him out of school in a minute for a chance to see the president - let alone get a signed note from him!

The knee-jerk negativity from conservatives is boring. Next!

I'm a Repub and I think is great that the little girl was with her father on the last day of school getting to me the Pres. How soon we forget about the car load of kids in the news last week, who skipped school roll over and killed 4 or 5.

This is funny. Not all news has to be about death and distruction. Sometimes it can be something small and humorous. It's worth a blurb and nothing more. People that are having a problem with it, get a life.

    Poor bitter Republicans.
Can't even take a nice moment as what it is.
The President took time to make the girl feel special. If President Bush had done this, it would have still been a wonderful gesture. In fact it is something that I can see he would have done.
Take your hate somewhere else please.

I think that the little girl got an important lesson in politics. Something she could not necessarily get at school. Great story. Those who as usual whine, get lost.

Wow – isn't great how riled up these GOP nuts are! They will jump at anything. Doesn't get much lower than that! So glad they are irrelevant and slowing going away! Your time is over now – bye bye!

I'm a Republican, I don't like Obama's policies, but this made me smile.

    Dear Bitter Right Wingers:
Don't you all realize how stupid and petty your hatred makes you look? I bet this young lady learned more by attending this event with her father than anything she could have learned in one day at school, and I know the experience will stay with her longer.
If you want to criticize the President, at least do it on issues of substance.

Just 3 more of these fluff pieces before Obama's presidency becomes a joke of an administration and a 3 ring media circus.

Oh, you right-wing, idiot conservatives really do not have a clue. I love the comment from richard rohde about how President Obama "pulled a child out of class." More RHETORIC since the conservatives have no credible facts to talk about. Oh, by the way, didn't queen palin just have her minor daughter in New York?

You critics, 'GET OVER YOURSELVES!' It took all of what(?) five minutes to make a little girl smile...and she will cherish that note for forever (may even be worth something one day!). Shame on you all!

This coincides nicely with Maureen Dowd's recent NYTimes column – about the human side of Obama.

Aint no way that teacher is getting that note. It's going in a scrap book.

For all you negative people out here, GET A LIFE. You conservatives show your hate for this country every time you open month. A once in a life time thing for a child and you bigots still have something negative to say about it. It just comes to show you conservatives HATE anything that has happiness to it, PERIOD. You people HATE to see people happy, you hate to see people helping one another, you hate to hear about people saying good things about one another, just anything that's good you conservatives HATE. If it doesn't have DEATH, DESTRUCTION, GREED, taking over someone else land or denying people their rights, you conservatives HATE it. In my opinion you people are nothing more than the evil man himself (((( THE DEVIL ))))m PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sure Obama gets all the praise for giving this child a note for getting out of school – but what about "W" ? He realized how important education is by continuing to read a book to the children while the country was under attach.....
