Letterman protest to still go on as planned, says organizer

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/06/16/art.letterman0616.gi.jpg caption="David Letterman faces a protest rally outside of his Ed Sullivan Theater despite having apologized for a self-admittedly 'coarse' joke."]NEW YORK (CNN) - Despite an apology Monday night from David Letterman, a protest rally outside of Letterman's Ed Sullivan Theater in New York will still go on as planned Tuesday, according to its organizer.

Political documentarian and conservative radio talk show host, John Ziegler, tells CNN that the point of the rally is to, "Raise awareness and get some sort of accountability."

He says that Letterman's apology, "Would have been fine had it come six days ago. This apology came seven days after the fact and his first apology was completely self serving." He added, "We think our voices should still be heard."

The protest is scheduled to take place as Letterman begins taping Tuesday's program. The group is angry over a joke the talk show host told related to the family of Sarah Palin.

Ziegler could not confirm how many of the more than 2,000 people he originally indicated would be attending had canceled. The rally's page on Facebook has approximately 200 confirmed guests. 1,383 have declined the invitation since the Letterman apology.

A significant number of the people who are attending list their residence as out of state.

Ziegler, who produced "Media Malpractice: How Obama Got Elected and Palin was Targeted" is also promoting his upcoming film, "Blocking the Path to 9/11."

Sarah Palin has learned the cardinal rule of politicians: there is no such thing as bad publicity. As long as she's in the news it's a good day for her. How about the media stops making Sarah Palin news?

Sarah Palin the loose lipped governor should also be apologizing to the American Citizenry and to our President for all of her caustic references last October. She used evil words like treason, terrorist and many other derogatory references challenging Obama's faith and even his citizenry. She should be the one that needs to say she is sorry to Me and You and Millions of others who stand for decency and rationality, whether we voted for President Obama or McCain.

Ms. Palin needs to quit playing Governor and get better control over her many children, so that no one else starts having children before they graduate high school.

Hey Lindy, thank you for the remark trying to offend those people who don't stay in bed as long as you do. Many of us taxpayers (whom you would likely label 'libs'), pay FAR MORE in taxes than I would bet you do, and manage to do it without sleeping 10 hours a day. If your job takes so much out of you that you can't stay up to watch the late show if you wanted to, its much more likely that us taxpayers are supporting you.

How many Sarah Palin jokes does it take to get Fox and Rightwing Extremists something to shout about? Answer: Just one – Sarah Palin – the biggest joke of the past two years. Please, add your own Sarah Palin jokes...Rightwing Extremists are the new American Terrorists. David Letterman owes NO ONE an apology. Not even pre-adolecent baby mama Bristol. Don't preach morals NeoCons and exhibit hypocracy.

You have a South Carolina Govenor calling Mrs. Obama a "gorilla" – where is your feigned outrage? Thought so. NeoCons are as crazy as the NeoNazi's they come from.

What a bunch of hypocrits. The right wing nutjob Palin who wants abstinence only education can't take the heat when her family is under public scrutiny for failing to adhere to her own teachings.

Who cares which kid it was. The point that was being made through his joke (HE'S A COMEDIAN THEY'RE ALL CRASS JOKES) was that one of Palin's daughters has set the trend to be knocked up and unwed (contary to her ultra conservative preachings).

Can we EVER get away from this woman! I am SO tired of seeing her stupid "animal caught in headlights" face. Letterman should be protested for even mentioning her.

They should protest Palin for continuing to beat this dead horse.
She brought up the name of her 14 year old and suggested
not being able to truat her on Lettermans show.
He apologized at least twice.but all she wants is to be in the
news, she could care less about her daughters,

I wouldn't feel so bad about this rally if the repubs were as irrate about the remark posted by SC ex-state senator regarding an escaped gorilla being the forebearer of our first lady Michelle Obama. But, I have seen NOTHING by Rush or O'Reilly expressing outrage about this disparaging remark.

I think this is a ploy to keep the alaska governor's name in the press!

John Ziegler is a desperate nobody who tries to make a name for himself by smearing bigname showbiz people. He has appeared on reality "dating" shows and is just some hack trying to do anything to put himself into the spotlight himself.

Journalists shouldn't give this fool any press time what so ever.

John Ziegler is a phony fraud.

Where were the protests when Palin made all those demeaning, racist and bigoted statements and jokes while she was attempting to run for vice-president?

  23. BusyMom

Palin continues to show her complete lack of saavy. Picking public fights with your grandson's father and with late night comedians who make tasteless jokes about public figures on a nightly basis shows a lack of maturity and frankly a lack of intelligence regarding how to handle yourself in public. These protesters are simply right wing extremist nutjobs. To protest over a joke, especially when it has already been apologized for, is an incredibly stupid waste of time. I hope Letterman's ratings skyrocket. I for one will tune in even though I usually watch Conan.

I have less respect now for David Letterman than ever. He should have stuck to his guns. It was a joke and nothing more. I guess old Pittbull lipstick thinks only she has the right to say what she wants. She and her entire white trash family need to go away and go back to the trailor park

    June 16, 2009 01:08 pm at 1:08 pm |
  25. Where's Johnny?

Letterman's ratings are better now that O'Brien is over Late Night. That's not because of Letterman, it's because O'Brien is more not funny than Letterman. And that's no joke.
