Racist e-mail aimed at Obama raises hackles in Tennessee

(CNN) - The chairman of Tennessee's Democratic Party wants a Republican legislative aide fired for sending out a "reprehensible" e-mail depicting President Obama as two cartoonish white eyes peering from a black background.

Obama's image is in the last square of a collage containing portraits of the previous 43 U.S. presidents. Copies of the e-mail were posted on the Internet Monday.

Sherri Goforth, an administrative assistant to state Sen. Diane Black, R-Gallatin, has admitted she sent the e-mail May 28 with the title "Historical Keepsake Photo." She said, without elaborating, that she mistakenly sent it "to the wrong list of people."

According to the Tennessean, a Nashville newspaper, a note on the e-mail said it was paid for by the Tennessee Republican Party, but GOP officials denied that they produced it. Black chairs the Senate Republican Caucus.

And Diane Black is going to REWARD her and allow her to keep her job...What you need to realize is, if you know what your boss expects you will know the level of work and atmosphere she expects from her aides. She will actually get praise from Rush, Dick, Newt, Liddy and Diane Black who are using tax payers money to insult the president of the United States. My suggestion is to get rid of Dianne Black she encourages this work environment.

She should be fired. The senate should not met until Sen. Black terminates this women. However, the senator and other senate republicans do owe anyone an apology.

she sent it to the "wrong people" huh? Well who were the RIGHT people? This is just about as bad as the Letterman joke if you ask me. But we've got at least 4 more years of this kind of stuff so it's not too much of a shock to me anymore. A SHAME for sure but not a shock.

Here we go again with the red necks of the south. President OBAMA is the most power man in the world right now and the red necks of the south can't stand it. He should have IRS audit every last one of them. That will show these idiots who has the power.

Classic GOP. This coupled with the other case where someone referred to Michelle Obama's ancestors as a monkey is the reason why the GOP is losing minorities big time. Keep it up GOP. You are on the way to minority party status for a while.

Keep up the pressure until she is FIRED! As an AA, I am sick and tired of the racist comments and then the fake apologies that occur when they are caught.

At least this woman said she sent it to the wrong list, she never said she was sorry or that it was a mistake. RACIST!

Wow! Ms. Goforth sent it "to the wrong list of people"? This kind of trash shouldn't be going to ANY list of people! I can't believe that she sttil has her job! She did this on state time, state computer, state email account.....and STILL has a job? Something is definitely wrong with Tennessee. Maybe this is what the Republicans in Tennessee State government REALLY think of our President! That is truly very, very sad.

The aide needs to be terminated by the Republican Party, AFTER we pay for some counseling, including role playing.

And Letterman is skewered? Get the Party in line down there--stat.

Card sent "to the wrong list of people." Who exactly is on the right list and would find this offensive card a "keepsake." I would be embarassed to have such small minds representing my state.
