Cheney inks book deal reportedly worth millions

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/02/04/art.cheney.gi.jpg caption=" Cheney is writing a book."](CNN) - Having made his rounds on the cable news circuit over the last few months, former vice president Dick Cheney is now headed to a book store near you.

Cheney has struck a deal with publishing house Simon & Schuster to write his memoirs covering a more than 40-year career in government, stretching all the way back to his roles in the Nixon and Ford administrations.

β€œIt has been a tremendous privilege to serve during some of the most interesting and challenging times, as well as with some of the most fascinating people, in American history,” Cheney said in a statement provided to CNN. β€œI look forward to writing about these experiences for the first time.”

The book will be published by Simon & Schuster's Threshold Editions, where former Cheney aide and current CNN contributor Mary Matalin serves as editor-in-chief.

The deal - which media reports have suggested is worth in excess of $2 million - is the latest to be struck by Robert Barnett, the Washington lawyer who most recently negotiated a book deal for Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Barnett has also negotiated multimillion dollar deals for the Clintons and President Obama.

Daughter Liz Cheney called her father a "student of history" and said he has already begun collecting his thoughts in longhand and on his laptop computer.

"He wants to make sure that his story is told, and told in a way that his grandchildren will be able to understand and appreciate even 20 or 30 years from now," Liz Cheney told the New York Times.

Cheney mostly avoided addressing the media while in office, but has since become a vocal critic of the Obama administration's national security policies. His book, set to hit stores in the spring of 2011, will come on the heels of President Bush's memoir. That book is slated for release in fall of 2010.

Other Bush administration officials currently working on books including top aide Karl Rove, former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, and former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

How anyone could work for this evil, immoral and nasty man....or want to read a book by him on him.....is beyond my understanding.

I suppose there's always some fascists somewhere on the planet...so I guess there is a small Hitler Youth-esque market for this book.

Any bush administration books are pornography in print. I'll make certain that I never buy a book published by Simon&Schuster.

A "student of history"... I don't believe has learned much, if he really was a student, he failed. The interesting part is "being told in a way his grandchildren will be able to understand" Oh yes, "fairy tales of the rich and famous" .......

Will it just be filled with more lies and deception? Does he reveal that he is truely the devil? Is it going to be a pop-up / coloring book so G. W. Bush will be able to read it?

In many ways, during his time as V.P., Dick Cheney was more powerful than the President of the United States.

Love him or hate him Dick Cheney is an intriguing, respected, feared, loathed and loved man.

    Definitely worth a read.

I hope the ex-vice president will excuse me for not buying his book,,,,i never read FICTION. I am afraid we will never know the facts concerning the Bush, Cheney administration. We do know that on more than one occasion they both lied to the American taxpayer. As long as they are both living comfortably,,,,,that is the important thing. I hope your book deal gets the same treatment that you have wished for President Obama,,,,,,,,,i hope it is a failure,,,,,

Awesome, more money from the power-hungry Cheney. When you have money, you want power. When you have power, you want more power. Why do you think he can't keep his mouth shut? This is just more millions to add to the Halliburton money chest.

Sorry Liz. Your child will grow up to learn his grandfather is the guy who helped orchestrate the torture program in Amercia, destroying American credibility in the process, and who also obtained an apology from a man who he shot in the face.

Cheney's going to need that 2M to pay for his lawyers when (if?) he's ever indicted for war crimes, lying under oath, etc, while Bushs' VP. The sooner he's indicted, the better.

Why does Obama and the libs continue to blame Bush instead of being a man and taking care of business. It is so sad that Obama and his presidency of excuses focuses so much in the past instead of being his own man and owning the solutions that are needed. Obama, Stand up and be the man we need you to be.

My question is why would anyone want to read what Dick Cheney, has to say. More than likely it will be his idea of the truth, which is not really realistic or true. We as a nation have suffer enough from what this man has done. It is time we truly move beyond him and let him go into history for what he really was a VERY POOR vice president.

His grandchildren will understand that he tortured people for no reason except his fear. That he denigrated the President who followed him for political reasons, and that he is a liar.

This guy should be in prison. Not making more millions from his years of trying to take away all our freedoms.
