Cheney inks book deal reportedly worth millions

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/02/04/art.cheney.gi.jpg caption=" Cheney is writing a book."](CNN) - Having made his rounds on the cable news circuit over the last few months, former vice president Dick Cheney is now headed to a book store near you.

Cheney has struck a deal with publishing house Simon & Schuster to write his memoirs covering a more than 40-year career in government, stretching all the way back to his roles in the Nixon and Ford administrations.

β€œIt has been a tremendous privilege to serve during some of the most interesting and challenging times, as well as with some of the most fascinating people, in American history,” Cheney said in a statement provided to CNN. β€œI look forward to writing about these experiences for the first time.”

The book will be published by Simon & Schuster's Threshold Editions, where former Cheney aide and current CNN contributor Mary Matalin serves as editor-in-chief.

The deal - which media reports have suggested is worth in excess of $2 million - is the latest to be struck by Robert Barnett, the Washington lawyer who most recently negotiated a book deal for Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Barnett has also negotiated multimillion dollar deals for the Clintons and President Obama.

Daughter Liz Cheney called her father a "student of history" and said he has already begun collecting his thoughts in longhand and on his laptop computer.

"He wants to make sure that his story is told, and told in a way that his grandchildren will be able to understand and appreciate even 20 or 30 years from now," Liz Cheney told the New York Times.

Cheney mostly avoided addressing the media while in office, but has since become a vocal critic of the Obama administration's national security policies. His book, set to hit stores in the spring of 2011, will come on the heels of President Bush's memoir. That book is slated for release in fall of 2010.

Other Bush administration officials currently working on books including top aide Karl Rove, former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, and former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

Harass me please! It wouldn't compare to the continuing harrassment from politicians like Cheney and Palin whenever they open their ignorant mouths.

Let the re-writing of history begin! Let the muddying of waters commence! Cheney knows he's guilty of war crimes and treason – and he is doing anything and everything to protect his fanny.

Back in the days after Watergate, when several of the indicted co-conspirators secured book deals and published their stories, a bookstore featured them on a table marked "BOOKS BY CROOKS"

It's time to bring that sign out again!

Well orchestrated Mr. Cheney. Make the rounds on the talk shows, uttering all kinds of garbage and incendiary crap,... then when everybody's mad at you( like they weren't before), make zillions on a phony book deal, which will probably reveal none of the stuff the public is craving. The formula works every time.

This dirt bag needs more money, while the rest of us drown for decades to come, from the great Bush legacy!!!

How do these Godless people sleep at night.

"Being told in a way his grandchildren will be able to understand."

Well, makes sense, given that the Cheney/Bush Administration treated us all like stupid children (who should be seen – in the voting booth – but not heard).

Every day I am so thankful America WOKE UP and elected President Obama!

Cheney is a pathological liar. I don't believe a word he says.

Why would I buy his book?

So this is why the nasty old coot came out from hidding to spew all his vile opinions about America and our President. Of course with him it's all about the money. I guess Fox media will have an abundance of "new" history (lies & deceptions) to re-distribute to it's minions. Oh joy.

So that is why he has been shooting his mouth off. He wants to get some airtime to sell his book.

I hope he includes all of the details on how he and his "puppet" Bush transferred all of America's wealth to the likes of Halliburton, BlackWater and other corporations.

Reward criminals with millions of dollars. What kind of message are we sending to the youth of this country? Crime pays.

Probably will be a best seller. It seems that many conservative books are on the best seller list. Some are leaving the shelves in a day. Just wondering now, who is out of touch with mainstream America?

    Ender,

Obama took a $1 trillion deficit from Bush and doubled it in less than 100 days. Remember how the $800 million porkulus package was going to result in creating thousands of jobs? Well, the US has lost well over a million since the bill was signed.

How much longer before you begin to hold Obama accountable for his actions? It seems like you dems NEED Bush to blame so that you don't have to admit that you were deceived by Obama.

Who cares what this traitor , war profiteer, war monger, chicken hawk who found a way not to fight in the Vietnam war has to say about anything? He is a liar and a criminal who should already be in jail.
Simon and Schuster, I wll not be buying any books you publish
The last thing America needs is more lies and rewriting of history from traitors and thieves. Do you think he will tell you how much profit Halliburton stole from America during his reign? Will he come clean about outing Valerie Plame, thus degrading the CIA's efforts to find REAL wmds? Will he tell us what he had to do with 9/11 when he called down the air force defenses before the second plane hit the towers? Will he tell any truth? I doubt it. Prosecute him for torture, war crimes, and treason and then let him write about that.

He wants to make sure his story is told in a way his grandkids will...not be able to blame him for his catastrophic selfishness and greed is more like it. He wants to be able to state it in such a way that will make him look heroic and blameless versus insidious and evil. He wants to.... oh, you get the picture...

Making money on almost 5,000 deceased military men and women in the Middle east is totally disgraceful. The military men and women and their families should protest and Liz Cheney should be ashame of herself talking about Cheney's grandchildren understand and appreciating him. Many children never got to know their fathers who have been killed in the Middle East nor will their grandchildren every look into their eyes.
