(CNN) - Former Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman Tuesday officially conceded defeat in his 2008 reelection bid, hours after the state's high court paved the way for Democrat Al Franken's victory.
"I just had a conversation with Al Franken congratulating him on his victory," Coleman said in a press conference with reporters. "I told him it’s the best job he'll ever have representing Minnesota in the United States Senate.
"The Supreme Court has spoken, I will respect its decision, and abide by its results," Coleman also said.
I hope "some Republican" is joking about Franken's nationality. For the record, Franken is Jewish, just like Norm Coleman. But if he were Mexican, he would still be the intelligent, thoughtful political commentator he is. This is America, right?
Republicans who dismiss him as "just a comic" haven't listened to his well informed radio commentary on a range of topics. They also had no problem voting for "body builder actor" Schwarzzeneger, or "grade B actor" Ronald Reagan.
This is more unexpected news than any of the recent celebrity deaths. Coleman accepting defeat? Wow.
By the way, Kevin in Ohio, you say "no longer Bush's fault." I hadn't realized that any of you cons ever admitted it was his fault in the first place. Congratulations.
Why not! Most of the Country is drinking "democratic spiked kool-aid" these days! Welcome to the after party! Sorry, it took so long! Now you can have your seat at the table!
thank you and good bye.
Kevin in Ohio-
It is no longer Bush's fault? I thought our new president was taking his responsibilities seriously, and doing quite well.
However, I think the people of the United States will never forget the ineptness of the Bush/Cheney leadership. Just like most disasters, "W" will be remembered for a long time.
Ha! HA!
Coleman? Now, go join Katherine Harris in political obscurity:)
Finally! Now let's get some real work done!
classless . . . finally.
Congratulations to my daughter . . . a "crazy, liberal, democrat" citizen of Minnesota who's been denied full representation in congress for way too long!
Larry said: Let the Democrats lead the Country to Success…..
I say, dream on. At the rate they're spending and imposing unread, unresearched mandates we'll soon be living in a nightmare.
Thank God this idiot Coleman realizes he didn't win or was he about to be exposed like the rest of his buddies.
Congratulations, Jubilations, Celebrations..............
We want the World to know We’re happy as can be.
America is Free from the Republican Tyranny and Curse. 🙂

HALLELUJAH. Can you say fillibuster proof majority?
---------------------------
Dutch, i can say fillibuster proof majority. I can also say the "blame Bush" era is offically over! You have the power, you also have the responsibility! Not sayin' the republicans were anything special either, they weren't!
@ changing my screen name to see if it helps getting my comments posted June 30th, 2009 4:25 pm ET
Ok, 'some republican guy', 'typical republican guy' or whatever other screen name you want to use I'm fed up with your rediculous posts. Everyone knows you are a Democrat. Anyone with a positive IQ can see that all of your posts are so absurdly ignorant and lacking common sense and would never believe you actually are a Republican.
Do you seriously not have anything better to do with your life?
Uhhhhh . . . . it's called sarcasm. Funny . . . all of us Democrats got it.
It's about time! Coleman should have given up ages ago and just dealt with it. What a waste of time and money. Once again, dems are the voices of reason and the winners
@ LARRY –
Let the democrats lead the country to success? How do you define that? I mean, what exactly did Obama tell you to say?
thank God, now please get your dam teeth fixed
this is a democracy and we accept results even when stolen but Franken should remembered that he won by 0.002% and that there is a big part of Minnesotans voters that do not think that he represents our state at its best
Democrats steal another election. What what a reflection of the people of Minnesota to vote in such a schmuck as Al F.
This moron is another liberal, welfare endorsing, tax and spend fool.
Well, we this is the idea of fools in Washington.
There really isn't much to celebrate. Coleman was a partisan hack with no ideas of his own. Al Franken is the liberal version of Ann Coulter, a divisive partisan hack who thinks that repeating his own talking points over and over makes for an argument. I wouldn't want either candidate to hold ANY public office whatsoever!
To 'Some Republican Guy',
You're too funny. There were people here who actually took you seriously, especially the righties. Now THAT put a grin on my face, good job.
This still doesn't make up for the stolen election of 2000 where Gore had 300,000 more popular votes than Bush did. The US is still the only western democracy where the person who gets the most number of votes can still lose! And we criticize others for their elections? Ha!
Minnesota got what it deserved.
Congratulations Al, I knew you'd come out on top eventually. Have a nice day!
I think Coleman FINALLY got the memo: George is longer in DC ..... Norm needs to go to Texas to get his nose browned now.
