GOP says even bloodhounds can't find stimulus jobs

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/07/02/art.boehnervid.cnn.jpg caption="Dems are hitting back at a new GOP Web video."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - On the day the June jobs report showed the U.S. labor market shedding 467,000 jobs, House Republicans released a tongue-in-cheek Web video featuring a bloodhound named "Ellie Mae" sniffing out stimulus jobs.

Narrated by Georgia Republican Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, the clip shows the bloodhound "on the money trail" visiting AIG's headquarters in New York City and projects in Wisconsin and North Carolina supported by federal stimulus dollars. It was modeled on a campaign commercial run by the current Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell in his 1994 Kentucky Senate race.

House GOP Leader John Boehner poses with Ellie Mae at the end of the video. "She hasn't found any stimulus jobs yet, and neither have the American people," says Boehner. "It's time to stop runaway spending in Washington and help small businesses get the economy running once again. Hang in there, honey, we'll find 'em."

"This is a lighthearted web video, but the underlying point is no laughing matter," Boehner said in a written statement. "At a time when Americans are looking to Washington for leadership, the trillion-dollar 'stimulus' isn't working. Americans were promised the 'stimulus' would keep the unemployment rate from going above eight percent. It's now it's skyrocketing above nine percent. Where are the jobs?"

Nadeam Elshami, spokesman for Speaker Nancy Pelosi, wasn't amused by the video. "Looks like the hound couldn't track down any of the police officers, teachers or nurses who are working today because of the Recovery Act or the construction workers working on more than 1,900 highway projects already under way across the country."

Elshami also said the stimulus law still needed time to show results, and slammed the GOP: "Betting against the American economy is another fairly depressing political strategy from the House Republican Conference."

Instead of complaining with " NO " solution, REMEMBER: It was the domestic terrorists Bush/ Cheney who steered our Country in the ditch. Could you for once tell the truth about our situation instead of filling your followers with the wrong message. Most of these GOP supporters on the blog are out of touch with reality and in deep denial. To tell you the truth I'm sick of it.

Maybe the GOP need to ask, "How we get to where we are today?" or "Did spending money on wars help USA?"

These jokers need to stop making youtube videos and GET TO WORK!!!

You're kidding, right? Is this all they have? Wow, I didn't realize how pathetic the GOP really had become. When is the last time you EVER saw a democrat waste time and money on a ridiculous ad like this? There is no wonder these people are on the ropes. Keep up the empty gestures guys… you’ll be relevant again sometime around 2048, when we need a good scare again to remind us how lucky we are to have you gone. Good riddance!

I liked the little stimulus project they did by me the other day. They jack hammered two corners curbs on a residential street and put in new curb corners. Only they did not build a ramp into them for wheel chairs. Two days later they jack hammer the corners again and are out there today doing AGAIN the job they should have done right the first time.

    Thanks Obama.

More whining from the GOP. Hey GOP, you are the ones that released the Bush pkg and you are the ones making it slow to release the funds now when they are needed. You have no one to blame but yourself. Get over your arrogance.

EVERY BODY KNOW IF YOU DON'T HAVE A PLAN SCREAM LOUD ABOUT THE OTHER MAN'S PLAN and hoping the people won't realized the party that have no plan is the one that got us in the mess in the first place.

You would think, with everything that is going on in the U.S., they would have better things to do.

Time for new blood in the government...

I guess when you refuse to take the money to help your own people and decide that your own self centered view is more important than the people you represent it is unsurprising that you would say something like that.

Why does the GOP hate America SOO MUCH!???

Glen Beck was advocating killing American's the other night to prove a point.

What is wrong with these people??

Personally I feel bad for the dog in that commercial.

After being wrong through the Bush years, the GOP is finally right. The stimulus has given us nothing but debt, pork, and more government.

Cheering against recovery and laughing at struggling Americans is soooooo patriotic!

Everybody knows results from the stimulus won't be evident for a year or more. Republicans did nothing while America crumbled and now the adults are working towards recovery. This will take time. I support our president 100% and will work for the rest of my life to make sure Republicans naver have power again. Look what happened.

You republicans are liars. President Obama say it the unemployment might hit over 10 percent. The Party of fear and lies really believe we are not watching and listening, but we are.

Hey Republican reps and senators – time to stop your whining, obstruction and lies and actually DO something productive for the good of the country. The days of easy money for you and your cronies is over. Work together to solve these problems or get out. 'light-hearted' videos are a waste of valuable time and money.

Soon idiots will stop giving these psychos money to waste on pointless advertisements that only feed the extremist who are already stuck in their corner.

Shouldn't they be donating that money to help pay off the George W. Bush $2.5 Trillion Dollar Debt($1.5 trillion surplus + $1 trillion new debt), where America has NOTHING to show for it besides ongoing wars and the an economic depression, thousands of dead Americans, 3 million jobs lost, etc.

Boehner's what we've come to expect from Republicans. A lot of finger pointing, not one idea at all on how to get the economy going again.

Up to the last six months I had no idea how stupid that party really is.

I'm from Boehner's home state, Ohio. Boehner needs to pack his bags. We're tired of empty-headed politicians when the people of this state are struggling.

President Obama's been at it for 6 months and has given us more hope than we've had in the past 8 years.

while I don't agree with the theatrics of this, MSNBC has reported today that less than 1% of the stimulus money has reached programs for jobs. We've been had people, someone got bailed out but it wasn't the middle class. Wait until cap and tax takes affect, there won't be any jobs left for the middle class at all.
