Iowa GOP to Palin: Come to Des Moines

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/07/04/art.palincampaigning0704.gi.jpg caption="The Iowa Republican Party wants Sarah Palin to visit its state."](CNN) - Who wouldn't want a big name to headline a major fundraiser? And the Iowa Republican Party is going after one of the biggest draws right now, Sarah Palin.

As first reported in the Des Moines Register and confirmed by CNN, the state GOP is courting the Alaska governor to be the keynote speaker at their annual Ronald Reagan dinner this autumn. The event is the party's largest fundraiser of the year, and has become a popular stop for White House hopefuls.

Aides to Palin have not immediately responded to inquires from CNN regarding whether the outgoing governor will attend the dinner.

Palin shocked many across the country last week when she announced that she would not only not run for re-election next year, but that she would resign as governor later this month.

The stunning announcement sparked debate on whether Palin's decision would be a benefit or a detriment if she decided to make a bid for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination.

Iowa is a crucial state in the race to the White House. The state's caucuses kick off the presidential primary season.

I hope she does go to Iowa so people can stop hearing about her. She has been vetted, many people then/now question her ability and ethics. Let her go and lets be done with her.

Obama: ... we didn't "misread" the economy, we just had "incomplete information ..."

Hey, come on, Barack! Next time don't say "we have to pass it quick." You and your Adm. should learn a lesson from it. Your misjudgement made us into HUGE DEBTS.

Sometimes "boldly and swiftly" is NOT A GOOD THING. We are not economists but ordinary American people with common sense.

Going to Des Moines would be the next logical step for Palin. She can definitely accomplish her goal of "fighting for the people of Alaska" there.

Heck yes go to Iowa and speak, we all want to hear some more of her vile words about our President and about who is true americans and who isn't and make a fool of herself and the GOP........she'll cause these people seeking election to lose, I haven't heard one Republican in our town meetings speak very highly of her......they don't even want her to represent their republican party....they are in disbelief of her Quitting her elected office as Govener or Alaska.......so I don't know where you are getting your poll numbers......try another poll and include more people in your polling

I like Sarah Palin because she makes the political scene have humor. She is good for laughs with all of her screw ups and gaffes. But I would never vote for a person like. Keep the laughs coming.

    @Willy: July 9th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

Go get them Sarah. The liberal's are running scared!

No Willy, it's not the liberals that are running scared right now, it is the GOP. There aren't enough of you Palin groupies to vote her in and she can do a lot of damage and cause a great deal of division in your party between now and 2012. She is the gift that just keeps giving to the liberals.

Amazing that some people are so uneducated that they can't even tell when someone is so obviously unqualified to hold a public office.

I guess underfunding education for all those years is starting to catch up to us.

  11. Dont blame me

It is good to see that the liberal HATRED is still there!!!!!

The ONLY reason that there is soooooo much HATRED towards Palin is because the libs see her as a threat.

Palin breaks the MOLD of what liberals think a liberated woman should be. The problem is that Palin is what a TRUE liberate woman is and they cannot stand it and her confidance prooves it.

I am a long time DEM with pro-choice view. But the Palin phenomenon made me so so curious. I think she is a person with charm and can deliver very good speeches like OBAMA. Is this the reason our DEMS are afraid of her so terriblely? There is no reason to attack an idiot. Only idiots will waste their time in doing that. But there is a strong reason to attact a brilliant and smart woman.

    I guess so.

why do people hate Sarah Palin, what has she done to anyone to have so much hate written about her and her family. Why America I need to know, what has she done to anyone personally except ask to be John McCain vice president choice. Is it because she is a normal woman or what i don't understand it. and i know CNN won't print my stuff.

that is it (cnn)keep embrassing your (right wing network) it very clear the gop is in the abyss of politics and party, and they told palin to resign to energize that doomed party and try to save its existance. she will not be a factor, she quit and america does not like quitters. iowa is the presidents lift-off and they love the president there, has the gop stooped lower to a deseprate act ,to use this loser to gain points for the (gop).the people in iowa are not stupid, but the gop is in a coma. sara palin is finished, david letterman baited her right into a trap, and she took the bait. and started running her mouth, and it came back to backlash. (cnn) why do constantly push this non factor, she is not even out of woods in alaska on ethics charges.(cnn) every day you test the waters, and cant you see america does not want palin as the majority.the gop is in stupid land.

Awesome! As a Democrat (who voted for Bush 1 & Reagan), I would LOVE to see the currently desperate-for-a-savior GOPs throw all their time and resources at this snide, snotty trainwreck. They indeed have better candidates, but at this point have either deluded themselves into thinking there'll be a revival of the good ol' President Rove days (thankfully now more dead than Michael Jackson) or are just too confused and paralyzed to move forward. In any case, life goes on ... How long till Meghan McCain turns 35?

Palin for President.......Forget about those hateful, jealous, vindictive,conniving,closed-minded, arrogant liberals. They are scared to death of you. If the biased media , AKA George Soros puppets, ever actually reported on your TRUE beliefs, they know you would win. Instead they have to lie and tell obtuse confuscations about you to blur the truth. GOPalin

I can almost guarantee that this comment will NOT be published.
The media HATES the truth about ANY conservative.

It's sad that the only reason many conservatives like Palin is because she likes to attack the left so vocally.

If Sarah Palin wants to quit her job as governor of Alaska in order to build her war chest for a run as the next Republican presidential candidate, let her do so in peace.

We simply have to sit back and watch her self-destruct as she did when running as McCain's vice presidential candidate.
