Johnston: Palin wanted to take the money, 'forget everything else'

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/POLITICS/04/11/kurtz.johnston/art.johnston.gi.jpg caption="Johnston is the ex-fiance of Bristol Palin, the Alaska governor's daughter."](CNN) - Sarah Palin wanted to take the money and "just run with it," the father of her grandchild said Thursday.

Levi Johnston told reporters the Alaska governor was stepping down early to take advantage of millions in potential earnings. According to the Anchorage Daily News, the 19-year-old said that late last year he heard Palin say "how nice it would be to take some of this money people have been offering us and just run with it, and saying forget everything else."

He pointed to talk show offers and other potentially lucrative deals.

Earlier this week, Palin attorney Thomas Van Flein told the Washington Post that the governor had received "hundreds of credible offers since the campaign," including Hollywood projects, but had not taken advantage of any except her book deal. Johnston said that even the Palin children had been fielding offers.

Johnston said he saw how stressful Palin's job was for her – "how she came home late at night and things like that" – but said he thought " the big deal was the book. That was millions of dollars."

Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton dismissed Johnston's take, referencing his own show business aspirations. "It is interesting to learn Levi is working on a piece of fiction while honing his acting skills," Stapleton told reporters.

who wouldn't take the money and run? considering what an Intellectual lightweight see was, she had no choice. everytime she opened her mouth more and more independent voters discovered they did not want her representing the United States in the global stage, even thou she could see Russia from her back yard. but the republican base loves her, which says a lot about them!

This is not a surprise. Everyone knows that Palin is only in politics for the money.

What is surprising is that people feel someone as uneducated and unarticulate as this woman should have a political office period. Anyone who doesn't like to read can not lead me to a baseball game.

She is smart to take the money and run because she along with everyone else knows that the job is WAY over her head.

I am counting the minutes for when the 15 will be up for Johnston, Sarah, and all those other wannabe's in Alaska.

Will America stoop low to purchase her "autobiography"? Or to watch her host a late night talk show?

    You betcha!

...as if it weren't obvious in the first place. I don't care what claims she makes, she had a reason for resigning, and if her reasoning really WAS what she claimed it to be, she has proved to the world just how bat-crap crazy she really is. In my humble opinion, she's not THAT crazy. There is money and/or power involved that she'll be getting from SOMEWHERE. Give it a few months and we'll all see exactly where.

It's amazing how infatuated people are with this family. Obviously Democrats are scared of her potential; otherwise they would just brush her aside instead of trying to tear her down.

Well, I would certainly believe Levi before I would believe Sarah. Doesn't suprise me! Sarah has always been for Sarah and the hell with everyone and/or everything else. She should drop out of sight, make her millions and stay away from politics.

Palin has the depth of a puddle and seems to have a problem telling the truth. I'm glad she didn't make it into the White House.

Money talks, she walks. Palin, sweetie, it's ALL about the MONEY, nothing else matters as it was proven during the election.

I can't even comprehend this woman as vice president, let alone, president.

I don't like S. Palin. But why would I believe anything out of the mouth of this young man?????? What you might want to report on is what kind of job does he have to care for his child? Does he understand now how to prevent this happening again until he is out of college, or trade school and married?

When he completes these task, I will start to lisien to him comments about adults! "Children should be seen and no heard".

Well isn't he a bitter little ex !!! Saw his window of opportunity to get a dig in and took it. Wonder who gave him the words because it's painfully obvious he's not bright enough to have come up with it on his own !!

Wow, when I don't think people can get any lower !! I'm always suprised by ones crawling about on the next level down !!

Who cares what this little boy has to say. It is all hearsay anyway!

This boy has gone beyond his 15 minutes of fame and needs to learn a little something about discretion. Who hasn't at some point said something out loud like what Palin said, in frustration?

I don't particularly like Palin, but Levi is the gold digger here and will say anything to try to make the Palin's look bad.

And quite frankly, if Palin did leave office for a combined reason of saving the state money in defending all the nonsense lawsuits, and also to take advantage of some paying speaking events, book deals, etc... that is really her business and not a single person has the right to judge her for it.

I don't even like Sara Palin the politician at all. She does not appear to be capable of running her own home let alone a country, but Levi is getting paid for his television appearences. If she is stepping down to take advantage of cash I would too. The country is in a resession. She needs to think about her kids. She has always been an opportunist so what is new.

Not surprised. I wish Levi the best considering that the Palin family will forever be tied to him through his son. It is a shame that Sarah and Todd have not behaved as mature adults for the sake of all their family members. They don't have to like Levi, but they should respect that he is the young father of their grandchild.

Levi may appear childish in his comments but Sarah and her spokespeople respond in the same childish manner. This will only strain the family relationships going forward. I predict that Bristol will be forced to take the high road and may be the only Palin attempting to take a more respectful posture for the sake of her son. What a dysfunctional group of people.

Everyone seems to forget that Levi never got paid for his appearences on tv unlike Palin. It was said by every interviewer that he wasnt paid.... so I tend to believe him... what does he have to lose she made her bed let her lie in it.... its gonna be great to see a the father of her grandchild take her down when it comes to her political career. Her handlers keep trying to belittle this guy but they just cant seem to do it!. I'm getting my popcorn and soda now to start watching the excitment!

Wow CNN. This is news? What the ex-boyfriend of Palin's daughter says? Why not ask the neighbor's dog while you're at it? Way to propagate tabloid reporting. I'm as sick of Palin in the news as I am of Jackson, at this point.

What a believable source old Levi is. Maybe she needs the money to help take care of your son buddy boy. How much are you contributing to his welfare? And I think we have a pot/kettle situation here since Levi seems to be enjoying the talk show fame and didn't I just see HE was going to "write" a book? Can't wait for that great piece of literature.
