Palin becomes MoveOn target as SarahPAC cash haul surges

(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's political action committee is confirming a flood of new donations that push her cash haul close to the million-dollar mark, as one of the nation's largest liberal PACs announced an ad targeting the former GOP vice presidential candidate.

Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton confirmed a report in the Anchorage Daily News that more than $200,000 had poured into SarahPAC since Palin's announcement a week and a half ago that she would be leaving office by the end of the month.

Those funds, along with $732,867 received through June 30 according to federal campaign finance filings, leave the governor just shy of a million dollars in donations to date since SarahPAC's January launch.

Stapleton told CNN that the PAC, which supports conservative candidates, had received contributions from more than 11,000 supporters, with the majority of the money coming from outside Alaska.

The news came as MoveOn.org began e-mailing members Tuesday, asking them to fund a rapid response ad blasting Palin's new Washington Post op-ed that criticized President Obama's position on "cap and trade" legislation - a major part of the administration's effort to overhaul the nation's energy policy.

The group said Palin was positioning herself as the face of conservative opposition to Obama's energy policy, telling supporters her op-ed was "a marvel of misinformation and outright lies."

The group has not yet said where the spot would air, or revealed the scope of any potential ad buy.

When I first read the headline, I thought, MoveOn is wasting their time and money treating Palin as a relavent threat. However, if she is trying to make herself ans the face of conservative oppositions...GO GET HER!
And another thing, NO ONE IS AFRAID OF SARAH PALIN (except the moose and other woodland creatures) We know that conservatives operate and are motivated by fear, BUT your liberal democratic counterparts DO NOT. If you haven't noticed, We operate and We are motivated by HOPE...NOT FEAR.

We were, at one time, divided by fear. We moved on. We are now UNITED by HOPE. Try to understand

What kind of moron would given hard earned recession money to a person that has a doomed political career, is a magnet for a flood of ethics violations, quit her governor's job after only a few months actually in that office because being a lame duck is boring, and is the biggest laughing stock in the country – well it's a tie between her & Mark Sanford.

Makes you worry about the mental health of our country.

"The Democrats are AFRAID of Sarah Palin. They'd be working for months on end trying to destroy her, Governor Palin remain standing; now she can say what she wanted about Obama and CORRUPT Democratic Party by end of this month. Sarah Palin is now the voice of the American people and WE WILL RALLY BEHIND PALIN!!!!"

Democrats don't need to destroy Sarah Palin. She's doing a good job of that herself. And speaking of corrupt I suppose the GOP is composed of very nice people who are sorry they destroyed our country.................for profit. Oh by the way...Sarah is not the voice of this American.

Republicans, I understand that we must exercise diversity in the GOP, moreso to address the lack of women talent in the presidential race talent pool. But if the GOP wants to succeed in 2012, you will need to dump Sarah Palin quick and find a real "qualified" woman leader who can make change, can form sensible phrases in English and knows that Africa is a continent on the globe. She's a comic reel and the GOP has enough to worry about.

When Palin announced she was leaving office I sent her $10.....and I'm a Democrat! Had she announced she was leaving the country I'd have sent $50.

If Cheney announces he's turning himself in, I'm good for $100!

@ Leslie who said "WE WILL RALLY BEHIND PALIN!!!!"

We as in the American people? You're kidding right? How does she intend on winning the African American vote after all the racial slurs that she never denounced at her rallies? She doesn't stand a chance and even "REAL" republicans know that.

Definition of a REAL republican = Colin Powell, Richard Lugar

Oh Rob, Rob, Rob. Quit with your desperate argument that we are scared of Governor Winky. We are ANNOYED by her arrogance, her addiction to being a victim, and her obvious uneducated followers (you know, the ones who have re-defined intelligence to mean elitism).

As long as the $$$$ is accounted for by Federal / State law, power to her. She DOES NOT NEED a financial inquiry for fund raising/expenditure. But one will be coming for sure.

Alaska and Hawaii fal linto the same catagory. Greatful to have, but remote enough to wbo "gives a dang"!

Sarah; learn your domestic politics, internationsal relatons, funding, congressional morre'. There is NO welcome wagon waiting for you.
Physical appearance, children on the stage, mean NOTHING.

Deliver a message the general continental people can appreciate and get behind. Else, don't bother. There are sufficient problems/issues to address/resolve without having to "look over the sea and have Russia in our face".

@ amy, who said "Lindsey Graham just gave the most condescending sexist grilling to Sotomayor that I have heard in 40 years."

Well, if you were to ask Palin, at least it wasn't Katie Couric, right?

  18. Six-PAC

Let's see if her donators agree with her when she starts doling the six-PAC money out to fringe right wing causes! Let' see if they want to finance arguments against global warming, arguments against stem cell research, arguments against Roe V. Wade, and arguments against alternative energy from Palin's antiquated point of view.

I am no fan of Palin's, but MoveOn's smear (I mean, ad) campaign will reflect poorly on the image Dems want to convey about their party.
