GOP's new youth ambassador: Lady Gaga?

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/07/21/art.ladygaga0720.gi.jpg caption="At Tuesday morning's weekly GOP conference meeting, Republicans were shown a video parody of the Lady Gaga hit 'Just Dance.'"]WASHINGTON (CNN) - Politics may make for strange bedfellows - but even for this town, this may be the oddest couple to ever make beautiful music together: House Republicans...and pop diva Lady Gaga.

At Tuesday morning's weekly GOP conference meeting, Republicans were shown a clip of a video parody of the Lady Gaga hit, "Just Dance" that replaces the popular song's refrain with "Just Tax."

The parody video was developed by Peter Cowman, a 23-year-old who just graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle, outside Rep Dave Reichert's district. A spokeswoman for Reichert said the congressman wanted to show his colleagues the video to encourage them to get young people involved using new media, and noted his district is home to a cluster of technology companies.

"He wanted them to encourage the youth in their district, and share the message on a level that young people can relate to," Reichert's spokeswoman told CNN.

Asked about the video, House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence, R-Ind, laughed and said "it's part of the Pence youth initiative."

Pence admitted that very few members were familiar with the original Lady Gaga song.

This is hilarious coming from the party that tried to use Britney Spears' fame to denounce Obama's fame during the champaign.

Hey Wick... Republicans aren't going to be returning any time soon to the POTUS office after all the Bush Administration has done.

Maybe Republicans ARE making a comeback, but only in your mind!!

Thanks liberal bloggers for once again showing with your hateful comments that 'change' was nothing but a campaign line, and bipartisan isn't part of your vocabulary. One by one Obama's policies are failing and you're too hypnotized by his hype to notice. So enjoy your bashing now, because in 3.5 years it's all over and we'll have another decade of Republican rule. There has only been one Democratic President reelected in the last 60 years, and that's the only one who governed from a moderate position. Obama's ultra left policies are not favored by the majority of Americans, and his popularity is slipping by the day.

Republicans still think they lost because they weren't "packaged" right to the youth vote, or the minority vote, or the independent vote. They could have run on "chance we can believe in" with a charismatic black leader and all the youtube fire power in the world–and still lost.

It's the policies that no one trusts anymore. Shiny wrapping paper will not disguise the manure they're selling.

The GOP is truly the party of hatred...I cannot imagine them coming up with anything other than silliness like this and fear, for the foreseeable future...

And this matters because?? I don't know of a whole lot of people that would give a fat rats behind for any kind of ad using anything this woman does. If this is their big idea to recuit young people they need to get their brains fixed. What a bunch of brain dead idiots.

oh brother, keep spitting out the vitriol... speaks volume of your character. It's a shame the democratic party has been high-jacked by negative, intollerant extremists such as yourselves.

the video sounds entertaining, and comical. as for lady gaga being some sort of ambassador for the republicans, i would say the story headline is a little misleading, but take it for what it is and leave it alone. maybe get a life and do something positive while you're at it... just a thought for what it's worth.

Dave Reichert is in the pockets of the health care industry, so I doubt we will see him step up for universal health care for our country. He has been a do-nothing representative who does whatever his party tells him to do.

On the video, unless permission was given, it sounds like blatant copyright infringement!

Socialized medicine, Socialized Business and Insurance. Printing out money like there is no shortage of paper and ink. No idea how to pay for it all. Just like the subprime loans (remember 'Now every american has the chance at the american dream) Pelosi? That required congressional and senate approval (new laws). The short sightedness of the democratic party with their entitlement mentality boggles the mind. Where is Bill (depends what the definition of IS is)Clinton?? No Input here? 3.5 more years and we'll be left to clean it up, just like history has proven over and over again. Way to go dems!!

Did any of you actually watch the parody video or are you all just sheep of the democratic party that immediately need to put down the republicans?

Step outside your stupidity box and watch the video. It is actually really funny and doesn't have ANY images of Lady Gaga in it!

Give me a break. This is rediculous. We should be talking about important things ... like ...

Did you know that the Secretary of Commerce, Gary Locke, is proposing that American consumers pay China's carbon emission offsets?

“It’s important that those who consume the products being made all around the world to the benefit of America — and it’s our own consumption activity that’s causing the emission of greenhouse gases, then quite frankly Americans need to pay for that.”

So let me get this straight – China makes products cheaply (and therefore takes American manufacturing jobs) because it has no organized labor and little to no environmental regulation. The US has organized labor and LOTS of environmental laws that keep us from competing on a level playing field. Locke, the COMMERCE SECRETARY, thinks we should pay China's carbon offset so they can continue to play on an uneven playing field and keep the manufacturing jobs.

This is all just a very, very bad dream...

More silly crap instead of serious thought and plausible solutions to the country's problems. I guess the Republicans can only do what they know how to do.

This is hilarious reading all of the dumbocrat postings that keep throwing out the same old tired talking points about "hip" dumbocrats and "square" republicans. Stop being brainwashed and following like lemmings. Do some independent thinking for once in your sorry lives and you'll realize how utterly wrong and stupid the dumbocrats and libs really are. Every minute of your lives the dems are sitting in Washington trying to think of new ways to separate you from your money and there is no better example of that than the Failure-In-Chief, Mr. No Hope & Spare Change himself Barack Obama.

The irony of this is that Lady Gaga is an ardent supporter of the gay community and gay rights, something that your average Republican is against. The fact that they picked this song so blindly to parody just makes that irony so much sweeter.

Publicity stunts are truly the only ideas the Republicans seem to have. And even those don't generally make sense. They are much like a group of not terribly bright third graders running for class officers.

    JGB said:
"Guess there are a few celebrities that aren't brain dead for Obama. But personally I don't care, Celebrities jobs are to entertain. I don't want or care about their political views………..Michael Moore, Sean Penn, Madonna, Susan Sarandon……….actually I won't watch or listen to anything by those who shove their political views on me. "

Further guess you don't watch movies with Ronald Reagan, Charlton Heston, or Gov. Arnold then, eh? Wake up and live ... entertainers have minds too, and they're allowed the same freedom of expression as YOU.

Now let's adapt an old Gilda Radner song, the one about the animals: "Hypocrisy ... hypocrisy ... all the GOP has is hyprocrisy ..."

So, a 23 year old, possibly but not conclusively a staffer, for a Wasington State Representative presents a parody that was probably meant to be an inside joke which again is presented, as encouragement for use of new media at a Republican weekly coneference meeting; and it becomes a national news item? Swell. I'd like to see what passes for good clean fun and humor on the other side of the aisle. I do not believe that Lady Gaga knew of this; and probably no one else would have known of this outside of the representatives office and the conference, but for the journalistic activism of CNN.

Way to create news guys. I know you are gleefully anticipating the fallout for this.

U make me Puke – Why do you think Democrats are typically the ones who are on welfare. The way to get the Latino vote is to promise amnesty and give them all the free benefits. Stop and take a look at WHO the democrats are. As a middle class tax paying citizen, I cannot understand how anyone with a job would be a Democrat. It is a well known fact that Democrats are tax and spend, tax and spend. Republicans are the ones who think you should get to keep some of the money you earn. Democrats are worse on the middle class by far. Poverty level are typically Democrats, they want everything handed to them and someone else to pay for it...........no incentive to get out and work for it.
