Obama mentions agreement for experts' panel to study Medicare waste

WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Barack Obama on Wednesday confirmed an agreement with fiscally conservative Democrats to create an independent group of doctors and medical experts empowered to eliminate waste and inefficiency in Medicare.

Obama said at a nationally televised news conference that he backed adding such a panel to health care reform legislation. He said the panel would make recommendations requiring approval by Congress.

Such a panel could both "save ... money and ensure the long-term financial health of Medicare," Obama said.

So-called Blue Dog Democrats questioning the costs of initial.

Hysterical. He'll agree to spend some time and money on researching the failing Medicare program... while he secretly tries to bumrush and bully Congress into passing a health care system modeled after it, which will exacerbate the losses and deepen our fiscal problems.

This Socialist can't possibly think this is a good idea. He's way too smart for this.

I am a proud working -class black woman who voted for President Obama, but he is going to make me regret my decision if he decides to go forth with this healthcare reform. Implementing this healthcare reform will allow the working people and the people who have gained wealth through working increase taxes. It seems that this healthcare reform is for people who choose not to have a job. Is it that the people can not have jobs, or just do not want to get a job? I feel that people who do not have jobs have more opportunities to obtain money from the government than people who actually work. President I understand that he has a lot on his plate, but he needs to sit back and think about the repercussions of his actions. President Obama also needs to understand that he can not help everyone, but the majority of the population who are working will suffer more than someone who is not out there getting a job. I don’t believe he will see another term if he continues this war and pass this reform. Obama should concentrate on keeping homosexuals in the military. He should keep the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, but the exclude the discharge based on sexual orientation. Then he should concentrate on getting our troops back home because the cost of war is bankrupting the United States. We are in a recession and at war with poverty in this country.

We have a Coalition within the Congress called Blue Dogs (Democrats yet) – even have their own web page....all 51 of them. They think they are independent thinkers but they just are another group within a group that agree with one another and since they are afraid to stand alone, they belong to the group. Shame on these politicians. Your only allegiance should be to your constituents, not to each other. By the way, I'm a Democrat and not very proud of this group of whiners.

I like to say that I am not WASTING trillions of dollars to go to the health care industry while they get ricker and laughing all the way to the bank. We need to get the drug companies, insurance companies and medical suppliers to lower thier cost. Then we can afford health care. PROBLEM AND TRILLIONS of dollars taken care of Ron

As a senior citizen, I do not call it waste for my doctor to prescribe medicine that allows me to stay in my home and be independent. My medical problems are not curable but the medicine helps with the pain and disability. I am afraid under Obama's plan, us seniors will be the ones with the rationed care or no care at all. I think he over-states the waste in the medicare system so he can rob it to pay for care for the younger citizens.

Uhh...if I am not mistaken this is a Republican created group that the President is picking up and running with. This was not suggested by Moderate Democrats as your article suggests. You should review the Hill Newspapers coverage of this issue and you will see that you are incorrect in your report.

MedPac is a good idea. As new developments in medicine occur, as well as ways to deliver this medicine, i.e. teams, this board can make suggestions as to what treatments are most effective, with an eye to keeping costs down. It can also offer the latest data on costs, and if it includes doctors and health professionals, it can identify less efficient practices and suggest more efficient ones. It is also a Republican idea, so that gets some bi-partianship going also.

Whatever you do, Mr. Obama, please don't allow the older generation to suffer any anxiety and further stress than we already have with aging and it's health and emotional losses. All some of us have is medicare, medicaid and ssi. We'd like to think we also have you in our corner.
