"What's the cost of not reforming health care?" asks the narrator in the 30-second spot. "Premiums rising faster than your paycheck. Insurance companies dictating more and more medical decisions. Denying you coverage while their profits soar."
"Tell Republicans the cost of doing nothing on health care is just too high," continues the narrator, as pictures of Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, South Carolina Sens. Jim DeMint and Lindsey Graham, and conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh flash on-screen.
It's the second DNC ad in a week to treat DeMint as a major target, based on his comment that the failure of a Democratic health care reform plan would "break" the president.
The ad buy, which will run on cable television nationally and in Washington, DC, will be a minimal buy, running in the tens of thousands of dollars, according to a DNC source.
Full script after the jump
What's the cost of not reforming health care?Premiums rising faster than your paycheck.
Insurance companies dictating more and more medical decisions.
Denying you coverage while their profits soar.
The cost of doing nothing means rising co-pays and out-of-pocket expenses. Families faced with paying the mortgage or paying for health care.
But some leading Republicans, playing politics, have vowed to kill reform.
Tell Republicans the cost of doing nothing on health care is just too high.
Problem: The liberal wing of the Democratic party cannot force legilation through Congress due to "intransigenceā (i.e. actually listening to their constituents) within the Democratic party.
Solution: Blame the Republicans!!
Yep, that's change we can believe in!
@ phoenix, there were no lies in Obama's speech last night. You must have been watch Fake News oops Fox News. You must be suffering from DeMint oops I meant dementia!! Please get your education and read more books or utilize the internet before you speak!
-Rick-
Yeah, much like they delayed it back in 1994!!! Thats exactly what the republicans are trying to do AGAIN! Delay and it will go away!!! Meanwhile american families suffer and the healthcare industry gets even fatter!
Is this what "reaching across the aisle means?" Shouldn't Democrats be trying to work with the GOP rather than trying to publicly smear them?
@angel: "i would like to propose that every conservative who does not want to receive the benefits of Obama's plan be given the opportunity to opt out of it."
I'll gladly opt out of it–as long as I can opt out of paying for it too. And opt out of the second-rate health care Obama's plan would result in and keep the health care services I have now.
@ ANGEL –
SURE! I'll opt out....and keep my own insurance...tell you what YOU PAY for all the welfare slugs....in my place, deal? Because, I've always made my way, all the way up the ladder of success and didn't needs some skinny, inexperienced, Affirmative Action thug to provide nanny goodies for me....so, yeah, you libs should HAVE to pay your way...and conservatives should be able to opt out...! Clean up your own mess for a change.
Angel,
I have a question....how was your mother denied healthcare from the hospital she was at? It is illegal to not give someone healthcare in America. Yes, you and your family would have had to pay for the care but she would have gotten it. Typical Liberal spilling lies. The issue is not healthcare it is health insurance. No one is denied medical treatment in America but they will have to pay out of pocket if they don't have insurance. Stop watching fake Michael Moore movies.
Talk about using scare tactics.... we do not even know what the details of this bill are. Why is everyone in such a hurry to pusht hsi thing through? Let us please take our time and learn all of the details.
Last night the President dodged the question 3 times as to what pains there will be and will there be certain tests, procedures...etc that will be denyed that are not now.
That is scarey
I find it sooo amusing that all the NeoCons on here are just repeating the nonsense and lies they are being fed on AM radio – against their own self interest!
This isn't a single payer system being proposed – if you like your insurance, you can keep it. Read the bill! This isn't a "government takeover"... it provides a government OPTION! Read the bill... and the system right now isn't working and it is killing small business, our economy and million of Americans and it wont raise your taxes unless you are Paris Hilton! READ THE BILL!
Bottom line – the GOP and some Dems care more about insurance company profits (and their own kickbacks) and sticking it to Obama than doing the hard work of reform for ALL Americans!
Amen Will!! i am so tired of blame falling on the "rival" party! We are Americans and need to stand as one! Divided we cannot succeed. We need stand as one. And we need to take back our country from the corrupted government! Come on people! Wake Up!
It appears the cost of doing nothing is much less expensive than ObamaCare.
-Matt-
Thats MOST CERTAINLY the pot calling the kettle black. The republicans are KNOWN for their LIES and OUTRIGHT theft of tax dollars!!! i.e no bid contracts sound just a little familiar?!?
Democrats are nothing but bobble head rubber stamps for Obama. Every american needs to remember these rubber stamps and vote them out of office in 2010. They are out of tough with real americans who are not majority liberal whiners.
This is hilarious. When will the democrats realize their health care plan is a farce?
-Larry-
Amen!
@ PFFT –
well spoken. I think the problem is, too many are getting flooded with calls from conservatives, both dems and repubs, that have brains and see the death sentence this "plan," would create for the American economy. A black president that wants to enslave the country...ironic...
Why do flag waving, God fearing, loyal Americans support oil company, insurance company, drug company, and any other robber baron "take from the dang fools, they can't do a thing about it" position just on the bought and paid-for Republican mouthpieces say? Can't any ordinary Republican voter realize they a pawns of Wall Street gangsters? A clerk of no known professional or education background, other that willing take a paycheck, informed the surgeon on-call that I could not remain in the hospital and the surgeon said, "I'm sorry, but I have to send you home." I just as soon have a government flunky tell the surgeon that because a member of congress would have to go home, so do I. That's more to my liking and a whole lot cheaper. Any care a member of congress gets, the ordinary citizens should get, period!
Debbie.
The President's office is the executive branch of governement. That means he executes the laws that the legislative branch passes. The country's various police force are responsible forexecuting that the law is inforced, and thus an extension of the executive office. That top official is essentilally the commander in chief abd the President of the United States. Whether you like it or not, his office is responsible for the execution of the law, and when he feels one of the agents of the executive branch of govt. has behaved unaccordingly he has every right and the responsibility to respond to that behavior. You may not agree with his opinions, but it doesnt mean he hasnt the right, within the function of govt. to do what he did.
Those of you who talk about the cost of reform, keep in mind the reality is that the cost of NOT having reform is a lot higher. Health costs are increasing at several times the rate of inflation, and we already pay double what other industrialized countries pay, yet live shorter lives. This out-of-control spiral in costs is not sustainable, which is why the American Medical Association, the American Nurses Association, and the AARP all support reforms along the lines of what President Obama and the Democrats in Congress are proposing. Americans want, demand, and WILL GET the health care mess fixed this year!
@ Darth Vadik, CA –
Yeah, those dems are fierce....wow...and to think, they're fighting best amongst themselves because the ones with brains, the conservative dems, see the light, and don't want to bankrupt the nation...
Luke, I am your father......
I just got an email from the DNC signed by Ms Pelosi.
What's here solution, to raise more money for the DNC, thats going to get this bill passed.
If Nancy and the DNC would stop fundraising for themselves and create a fondation that would help people who need it with obtaining Health Care coverage I would take them much more seriously.
-phoenix86-
Hmmm...If a liar says you're lying, does that mean your telling the truth?!?!
We need health care reform, but we not need to hurry up and do it. I have seen too much of this type of activity in both Administratins.
Members of the GOP have put out plenty of alternate proposals for health care reform... but don't think for second that Pelosi will even allow them to be heard. Can't have a Republican fixing things....
Did anyone other than the Wall St. Journal care to show Bobby Jindal's ideas on reform that won't bankrupt the country and socialize 1/6 of our economy? Nope...
The fact is the dems don't care about you or your health care... they're dead set on a public option that shifts 1/6 of our private economy into the hands of Washington Beaurocrats and could care less about the ramifacations of such a horrible plan. Power is everything.
@ Sarah B. Frates –
Oh, I guess you were on the scene, huh? Gee, if he were white, and the cop was black, this wouldn't have made the news...go back into your liberal meditation...
