WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Obama will posthumously award a soldier who died fighting in Afghanistan the prestigious Medal of Honor on September 17, 2009, the White House announced Friday.
Obama will give the award to Staff Sergeant Jared C. Monti, who died while trying to save a comrade. Monti "displayed immeasurable courage and uncommon valor," the White House said in a press release.
The Medal of Honor is given to members of the Armed Forces for acts of extraordinary bravery, or for risking their own lives to save those of their comrades.
Many things Obama does I do not agree with, but in this case President Obama gets a thumbs up from me.
Why isn't this a full story? Is it because it's not a celebrity or can't be taken out of context? This is a prime example why CNN has fallen to the ranks of Fox when it comes to quality news. If only you could give this a good racist spin you could find a way to include some information about how the Medal of Honor was earned.
funny, there are no posts here from anyone, we are too busy worrying about "spending our children can't pay for", "wise Latina comments", "police acting stupidly", "who Cheney thinks is a public servant", and "who can see Russia from their patio".......sad! Let this show all that we are being manipulated and pitted against each other when the individual receiving this highest honor and American can earn (with his life mind you) didn't care whether his fellow American was a blue dog, conservative, republican, democrat, or liberal and showed us all how Americans should treat Americans. We should all be ashamed or ourselves.
I was under the impression that Congress, not the President, awarded the Medal of Honor.
I wish our president would act more presidential
We strongly recommend Sgt. James Crowley, of Cambridge Police, for his impeccable bravery in arresting a cane wieldin' African American sexagenarian, for a purple heart equivalent medal.
This is going to be akward.
At least someone from our armed forces are being recognized...hopefully people will be reminded of the sacrifices we in uniform make everyday...
This is a Joke. Barack Obama who never served his country in any way. Recognises a real Hero. Sitting in The White House because he is Black.. Says nothing.
I knew SFC Jared C. Monti. He is and will always be my hero and the true definition of what a Soldier is suppose to be. There is not a day that goes by that I do not talk about him to some of the new Soldiers that have enlisted in the Army. I learned so much from him and he will forever be my "Battle". God Bless him.
Commander-In-Chief makes the award. Award is made in the name of Congress representing the American people, but Congress has no role.
I would bet he will pin it on his own lapel n private just to c how it looks.
