Palin thanks hometown as resignation day approaches

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/07/25/art.palinbye0725.cnn.jpg caption="Gov. Palin greeted supporters at an event in Wasila, Alaska Friday as she winds down her tenure as governor."]
WASILLA, Alaska (CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made it clear to hundreds gathered at a picnic in Wasilla on Friday night that she loves her hometown community.

"This being my last time to speak to the valley community as your governor, I do want to tell you sincerely that I love you," Palin said in one of her last speeches as governor.

"I appreciate you and your support, the support that you've shown my family. God bless you and God bless America."

Shouts of "We love you Sarah!" and "Sarah Palin in 2012" could be heard over the applause as she finished. Few seemed to have an unfavorable view of the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee at the event, which honors men and women in uniform.

A nationwide poll released Friday indicates that a majority of Americans have an unfavorable view of the outgoing governor. But the ABC News/Washington Post survey also suggested that seven out of 10 Republican voters maintain a positive opinion of Palin.

Fifty-three percent of those questioned in the poll view Palin negatively, with four in 10 holding a positive view of her.

The survey suggests that there is doubt about Palin's leadership skills and her understanding of intricate issues. Fifty-seven percent said they don't think Palin understands complex issues, and 54 percent do not feel she is a strong leader.

Despite the numbers, Palin remained upbeat at the picnic.

She recounted a recent interview with a journalist after telling the crowd she won't use her time to "talk politics."

The reporter was suggesting she had had a "rough day" and had been framing the questions in a way to elicit a "pessimistic" response, she said.

"I said, 'Oh no, it is not a down day - my son called this week from Iraq," she said. "He is safe, he is sound. It is always a good day when my son calls from Iraq."

"I wish that some in the media would keep things like that in perspective, what is really important in our country."

The governor will attend a similar event in Anchorage on Saturday before she transfers gubernatorial power to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell in Fairbanks on Sunday.

Thank God she is finally going away – she won't have a chance in 2012.

In reading the blogs from most left wing liberals, it's amazing how many attack Palin's intelligence. In contrast, look at who they voted for! An inexperienced Socialist hell bent on tax and spend policies, expanding Government, apologizing to 3rd world nations for America, bowing to Muslim Kings, and shifting wealth to anyone he see's fit. The Obama honeymoon is over as his popularity tanks. People are waking up to his true colors! To me, Sarah Palin vividly shines in comparison!

Palin has the unique opportunity of saving America! How? She can take on the roll as an independent. As such, she can force both the democratic and republican parties to speak and run adds that are true.
Love her – Hate her, This is not important. She can get media attention. Again, I repeat, Palin is in this unique position and I hope she uses it for the good of America.

Your CNN weekend newspeople must be trying to gain favor with their liberal bosses. They are smug unproffessional wannabees!
Somebody run the tape of Peter Jennings crying on the air, when he had to announce Mario Cuomo's defeat in 1994. We will see a repeat in 2010. The losers will be:

    Harry Reid
    Chris Dodd
Nancy Pelosi will probably have enough of her cronies still there to get elected MINORITY leader.

And who will be the leader who puts CNN,ACORN and the Democraps in their place:

As expected, she couldn't get through the event without complaining about the media. The same media that she exploits every day with her ridiculous stories.

  13. With Obama failing on everything.....

the economy continues to sink, unemployment rises, foreclosures surge..

Obama reaches out a hand to Iran and it's promptly slapped,

    N. Korea mocks him,

he has no credibility with Al Qaeda or the Taliban,

His spend, tax and socialize America programs have resulted in his approval rating dropping under 50%....

I'm ready for Sarah in 2012....

can't seem to find your story on Obama's approval rating dropping under 50% nor your story on polls showing Americans do not want his health care program as outlined......

Oh yeah? How's Obama doing? Not so good, huh? Didn't he just fall below 50%?. You think that would be the bigger news story.

The people of Alaska love Palin. Republicans love Palin. Leave her alone.
