WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Barack Obama will meet this week with Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and the Cambridge, Massachusetts, police officer who arrested him for disorderly conduct, James Crowley, the White House said Monday.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs did not say which day the three men will get together at the White House.

UPDATE: The White House has revealed what beer will be served at the much-anticipated meeting later this week: Bud for the president and Blue Moon for Crowley. The Boston Globe reports Gates likes Red Stripe and Beck's.

Total Rubbish!! As if we, and the President have nothing better to do than to pander to people who cry racism at the drop of a hat!! The damage done by Obama to self is huge, and he has lost the support of many level-headed citizens. Another GW in the making? All three are so stupid, and no wonder this country is going down the drain.

Based on our backgrounds and life-experiences we all have different views on this subject – but the fact is only a few - and none of us - was there. There was behavior or actions that could be interperted differently by all of us during this altercation; we may never know what really went down , but, in my opinion, the bottom line is this story does not merit national attention, nor does it merit presidential attention.

It is commendable for these individuals coming together to resolve an issue that has been overblown.

As the old saying goes, "When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade" to rise above the challenge.

I find this all unbelievable. If the President is going to get involved in every "perceived" act of racism he will not have much time to solve the problems affecting all people in this country. This nonsense has taken away from the healthcare issue which I am sorry to say seems much more important to the millions of Americans trying to figure out how to bring their children to legitimate doctors. The President seems to spend way too much time defending his "friends" and not his country. Every day brings a new disappointment in our "leader".

All the late night comedians will thank the President for this great joke material. Make sure you tune in tonight, folks.

Prof. Gates was the one who vowed to keep this issue alive, but President Obama IS actually the one who is keeping it alive.

Racism is learned throughout a child's upbringing. Unless this topic is discussed in school with our youth, it will continue to be a problem. This is an opportunity to learn about and discuss this issue confronting all of us as Americans. It is not a black/white issue, it involves all forms of hatred, bigotry, and intolerance which still exists because some people think they are superior to others or that everyone should conform to their beliefs.

Maybe after a few beers Mr. Gates can go on one of his patented Racist rants, and Obama can blame Sgt. Crowley. Racist in Chief for re-election in 2012...

an effective leader – takes responsibility for words and actions and does not attempt to shift blame. We and the media allow him to blame everything on someone else. I wonder when his attempt to blame his buddies in tthe media for blowing this one out of porportion will come back to bite him. obama needs to add these phrases to his list, two of which are- No Comment and I was wrong to________. If he would learn to keep his mouth shut he wouldn't constantly have his foot in ankle deep.

Many of you need to study up on racism. White people are the only ones that can be racists.

  16. Meeting was Crowley's idea

Two things, a reporter asked Obama his opinion on this issue at a Health care news conference. It was not volunteered by Obama, but rather solicited from him. He should have just said "next question" but at the least he said he was biased because it involved a friend.

And the beer thing was Crowley's idea, so that squashes the conspiracy theories. Done.

Before blaming Tom, Dick, Harry and Jane, let’s focus on the neighbor’s (supposed) civic duty which turned out to be a fiasco. Obama only got involved because he is trying to heal a race sensitive country which is divided seemingly beyond repair.

Remember the ads during the campaign – its 3 am, who do you want answering the phone? Surely not Obama, who has no clue on how to lead a country. In six months he has spent more taxpayer dollars on a load of crap. How about the photoop over NY City, bailing out AIG, but letting Lehman fall to the dogs? He is selectively turning our country socialist, while the bleeding heart liberals all have their heads up their rears and are too blind to see it. And for all of you who think he and Pelosi's healthcare plan is so great, talk to some people in the UK and see if you don't have a better sense of whats coming. Also like the fact how he tried to jam it through congress before the summer recess. Thank god for a few level headed democrats who stopped him. I guess now he is going to pout like a little boy cause he didn't get what he wanted!!

This meeting is a joke. No doubt the officer and his family have already been visited by some of Obama's thugs. Crowley is probably under pressure to say whatever Obama wants so to protect his family and finances. Let's face it, Obama is not above abusing power. And if he is, the democratic party isn't!

I hope if I every have a run in with the police the President will invite me and that officer to the White house for some suds and a chat. That is what we need our President doing.

Such a waste of taxpayer money. Doesn't the Pres have more important matters to take care other than two men who let their pride over run them.

I suspect a lot of people believe that Sgt. Crowley and Prof. Gates will meet, shake hands and racial tensions will come to an end ... all because President Obama found out the real solution to racial problems .... a beer. Just great Mr. President, and it is going to cost the U.S. Taxpayer what financially? What a joke. Sgt. Crowley doesn't speak for white people and Prof. Gates doesn't speak for black people, the President is suppose to represent and speak for everyone. I think Sgt. Crowley is lowering himself to agree to meet with the President and Gates .... they are both black racists !!!

So, I take it from now on whenever there is a dispute between a Black man and a White man, we can expect the President of the United States to bring them to the White House and be the mediator? Or is this only when it involves one of his friends? Very bad precedent.

When you see the influence Obama is having , even though he was completely wrong. He is tried too ruin a police officier, the police dept, too protect a friend, and turn it into a race issue. Now the mayor investigated, but won't comment, the professor backed down because he lied, one of the good cops that African American's say don't exist is being harassed, and Obama wants too settle it with a beer too protect his friend. DO YOU REALLY TRUST THIS MAN AS YOUR PRESIDENT.........WHAT DOES HE REALLY DO BEHIND CLOSED DOORS IN THESE SECRET MEETINGS, AND HOW MANY PEOPLE DO WHAT HE WANTS SO HE DOESN'T RUIN THEIR LIVES....

As ordinary citizens, we still fail to fathom the fact as to why Gates was arrested the way he was in his own house by Crowley. We do realize that the cop was doin' his job, but we also feel that he was overzealous in doin' his duty, simply, because he was yelled at. That's one hard and bitter pill to swallow.
