WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Barack Obama will meet this week with Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and the Cambridge, Massachusetts, police officer who arrested him for disorderly conduct, James Crowley, the White House said Monday.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs did not say which day the three men will get together at the White House.

UPDATE: The White House has revealed what beer will be served at the much-anticipated meeting later this week: Bud for the president and Blue Moon for Crowley. The Boston Globe reports Gates likes Red Stripe and Beck's.

–CNN White House Correspondent Suzanne Malveaux contributed to this report.

Everyone knows that racial profiling occurs, however, we don't need Barack to inflame the issue. Come on, play President not mom the Peacekeeper..

All of you radical republicans need to get a grip on reality! How about ALL THREE of them were wrong! They each could have handled the situation quite differently by not letting their emotions get the best of them, but, unfortunately we have all been there before. However, as I sit here and read the noxious comments made by such single-minded people, I am appalled. In fact I realize now that the reason I left the republican party back on election day and voted for President Obama was because of the way the republican party handled themselves -with hostility, animosity, and malice. After voting primarily republican my entire life (I'm over 60) I was embarrassed to be associated with the republican party and judging by the comments I just read, I don't see that changing.

The latest being reported in Boston is that the 911 caller never mentioned the race of the people who were trying to break in. So that means Gates comment about 'taking the word of a white woman' is just pure racsim on his part. Obama and Gates need to apologize to Crowley.

Obama is taking his dog and pony show to a new level. This is not a national matter, none of his business and he has to bring it to the WH. At least it may open eyes to the fact that he sat in Rev Wright's church because of what was preached and his beliefs. What a sorry state for the country.

President Obama is making STUPID mistakes. He needs to shut up and allow the people he elected as part of his Administration get a chance to speak. His mouth shows he is getting tired. This is as bad as when he went over to that Arab nation and acted like he wanted to kiss that Arab king's shoes.

I have to admit that the impulsive comment by the President at the press conference was pretty uncharacteristic of him. I voted for the guy because I thought he kept a cool head on things. I guess we all have our bad days.

But I'm glad he admitted it was a mistake. That restores my confidence in him. Let's move on.

I can't believe white people are mad about this!!! Who is your Rodney King? Who is your Amadou Diallo? Who is your Oscar Grant? How many more times do you want me to come up with a case where a black man was shot by a white police officer? Where are your stories about how whites are mistreated by black police officers?

Obama's remarks were NOT racist. It is a FACT that blacks and latinos are arrested disproportionately by police. It as a FACT that black and latinos are being exonerated by DNA evidence because white eye-witness testimony was the only evidence that convicted them.

YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO GET ON A SOAPBOX AND BE ANGRY. Walk in our shoes for a day, month, year, lifetime...

You can let go of this story CNN...the damage is already done...you already gave the GOP what they wanted by ignoring all the substantive discussion of more important issues from the press conference and instead focusing solely on this...now it's too late. Your contribution to the dumbing down of America is duly noted.

All one needs to do is to read the hateful, racist comments from the right-wing sub-humans to see where the problem is. Also notice that every one of the posts from the right contain major grammatical errors, proving their love for illiteracy. Hey crackers, how would you feel if an uppity black cop arrested you in your own home??? Who would be crying racism then???

Caucasians are always the one using the race card when the matter is black versus white. Obama was right. If it was my friend, Yes I would defend him. He corrected himself as a African American man. I haven't seen any apology from Palin when she was promoting racism at those rallies and dinners. So leave the prez alone and move on just like with this matter. We are in a new generation and have other issues to deal with.

The President did not say the officer was stupid, he said he acted stupidly. The more insulted this officer gets the more proof that he is indeed stupid. What is he, another Joe the plumber trying to make a name for himself? Those who feel offended by racist remarks are racist in heart; otherwise such a remark would not offend them. The truth always hurts. But enough is enough. Stop harassing the President; he has more important work to do.

Obama showed his inexperience in opening his big mouth in the first place. This is an incident that would have gotten much less attention had he not butted into a situation that didn't involve him. As for this friend, Gates is just another arrogant, patronizing elitest member of the academic world who thinks everyone else is beneath him. Add to that the fact that he is a black who knows how to play the race game to his advantage. I have no respect for either of them.

as i recall, were there not 2 additional officers responding?.....why not invite them all as they were witnesses to the unfolding situation, and the woman Lucia Whalen (who called the police in the first place, and was there on the sidewalk the entire time)?...........be a good idea for some of the commentarians to read the offical police report about this entire incident.

What I love about President Obama is that he is man enough to admit his mistakes. He told us from the beginning that Skip Gates is a dear friend of his and of course he would go to his friend’s defense...that's called being loyal.
However, as a president the world hangs on his everyone word. Americans don't like it when our presidents show favoritism. Like the Bush Administration showed favoritism to the wealthy in hopes that it would create a "Trickle Down" effect! Unfortunately Bush made it easier for the wealthy to show their true colors. GREED!

Race is not the issue here....egos are

Another bad move by Obama. This will just serve to keep the story alive and you know the White House Press Corps will be dying to be there also.
And what happens when Gates and the cop disagree on what the lesson should be from this "teaching moment?"
And if Obama just comes out with a photo op of the 3 of them holding beers, his reputation as another Martin Luther King will be destroyed.
Inexperienced Obama should let this go but he keeps stepping in it.

Had this been a black cop and a white professor and white Pres. would there still be a meeting. Racist teacher and Pres. They threw the card, they are making it and issue.

The media made this into a "controversy". It took less than 3 minutes after the press conference ended for the media to completely forget the previous hour on healthcare to jump all over Obama's response to that ONE question.

This is THE most racist nation on Earth, yet everybody wants to act as if it's not; like we're over race. All the disgusting overtly racist crap Obama's had thrown at him and people want to accuse of reverse racisim. HA! HA! HA! Get real! The fact of the matter is that many people can't stand that an African American is POTUS and will use ANY and EVERY opportunity, no matter how insignificant to knock him. If Obama were white, this wouldn't have gotten one headline.

President Obama had every right to voice his opinions about what happened with Professor Gates. I think it's pathetic that he's inviting this rogue cop to the White House just because he feels pressured to do so. Bottom line, the cop overreacted and Gates shouldn't have been arrested. If the situation was reversed and it was a black cop and a white man( regardless of profession or background) whites would be calling for his immediate resignation. The hypocrisy of white americans shows no bounds. And you people have the nerve to say that blacks play the race card. What a joke!

    I SAY IN JEST...
I guess if you are a black man who is interested in breaking into a house in Cambridge, try the Gates' residence. Neighbors probably won't call the police again, and the police may not respond again. Nobody wants to be accused of "acting stupidly" twice! 🙂
